Best

I moved to Chicago and before didn't really know anyone in the area. So I figured I'd get a video my first night here having no cable at all. \r \r Within minutes I felt welcome...

Worst

As good as Video Strip may be...it's gotten kind of bad lately. I will be straight about it, here are the things that could make it better and the things that make it bad: Employe...

The Video Strip... 9/5/2006

I have to say, The Video Strip is the best store that I have ever rented from. The prices are pretty low, and then there are the deals!!! I haven't seen anything like this around anywhere. From free rentals for voting to 99cent rentals that you can keep for a week. They also have tons of seasons on DVD that I can pay 4 dollars and watch the entire season, and I get an entire week for that too!!! How many other places can you get 3 movies and a bag of chips for 9.99 or 4 movies with chips candy and a 2liter of soda for 14.99!?!?! Not only are the prices great, but they have an incredible selection of movies that you can't find anywhere else. Since I started going The Video Strip I have started to watch all types of movies that I otherwise would have never heard of. Not only do they have movies that I will get into, but they also have a hong kong section, and a large animation section too. If people want a good video store they should start going to Video Strip. more

Chicago's Best Video Store. Even DELIVERS!!!! 12/11/2005

First off I wasn't even going to write a review till I saw a review on here that just had a lot of information wrong on this store. I've been coming to this location for the 10 years they have been open. Since day one there have been all kinds of deals that the owner has come up with. From his 1cent rental days. YES THATS NOT A MISPRINT! To the yearly October 6 horror movies for $6.66 special. 99 cent family videos that you get for 7 days. Even on Election day if you bring in your voter's stub you get a free rental. This is just a few. There are regular specials like a new member gets 2 free when they rent one for signing up. Rent 3 games or movies for $6.99 - $9.99 with a large bag of chips or popcorn. Unlike the big store's even when there is always a slow long line you NEVER stand in line for long periods of time here. You are taken care of very quickly by the great staff in this place. I can only agree with one part of the review that I found so incorrect. The price for one video is $4.50 but in 10 years of coming here i can say with the specials NO ONE just rents one video. Plus even if you do there is a lot more offered for your one video. With TV Shows and Deluxe Editions. The Tv shows are rented by the season... NOT BY THE DISC. Huge saving compared to Blockbuster and the rest. With the Special Editions brought in are always the best versions available. Many versions I have yet to even see at another store other than here. They bring in more then just special editions they bring in collector's editions that have more then the special editions. You can't buy those for $3.99 at Best Buy. Their late fees are pretty reasonable. 99 cents on regular titles and games as well as 2.50 on new ones. I remember being late a Blockbuster once with a game and being charged six bucks!! This place is very reasonable on their prices. The best part is if your a frequent shopper. They sell a prepaid card there that you can have 30 rentals for only $35. Beats the crap out of the other store's prices as well as the bargain $3.99 basement DVDs on sale. Saving the best for last....THEY DELIVER AND PICK UP your movies. So you never even have to leave the house. I've been shopping here for years and rarely ever need to shop elsewhere for something. I strongly recommend trying this place out. Oh, and their selection of DVDs. It's the best I have seen. Forget the big boys...check out this place. more

So-So 11/28/2005

This place is so-so. Personally, I think they charge a lot to rent the DVDs in the first place- I think it was something like 4.50 last time I went. I mean, if you look at Best Buy this week, the SAME DVDs are on sale for 3.99 so you might as well buy it. Killer late fees as well. If you're bad at returning movies, you might as well just buy it from the store. Also, during the summer and on Fridays, a lot of the new movies are all rented out (unlike Blockbuster). The only redeeming factors are the selection. They have so many movies, including Foreign Films (think Foreign: like China and Croatia). A lot of the time, you can also catch a really good deal- like 3 movies for $10 and a bag of chips, which is decent. Parking is always available and the people are nice. You do get a free movie (and the person who recommended you gets one too) just for signing up so might as well give it a shot! (You can always say I recommended you..;)) more
