So so food, crappy service 8/6/2005

Viceroy, located on Shattuck and University is another in the long list of Indian Restaurants in Berkeley. The food is just alright, but the service is real bad. There is just one bearer to serve the entire restaurant and I suspect he doubles up as a chef as well. The ambience is okay, with comfortable seating but dim lighting. The prices are bloated. Overall I would suggest you go to India Palace Restaurant next door. The Indian grocery store attached to the place is poorly stocked with most food items eons past the expiry date. And again they have more-than-reasonable rates here too. more

decent food 7/11/2005

This place is actually pretty expensive for the food it serves which is why I put the rating as OK instead of very good. This means you get your typical americanised indian food for the cost of macdonalds. But the food here sure beats macdonalds flat. You should be prepared to bring water to this place as the food was quite spicey and they ran out of water so I had to order their expensive in store beverages which was kind of a bummer for me. Go try it out, its actually not bad. more

Chicken Tikka Masala a Must at Viceroy! 7/1/2005

Viceroy Indian is located conveniently on Shattuck and University Avenues in Berkeley. Of all the Indian cuisine I’ve sampled – from San Francisco to London – I crave Viceroy’s chicken tikka masala above all others. The restaurant is nothing impressive, but the busboy is always attentive and the naan is always served warm as is the food. Dishes are brought in a small metallic bowl with a candle below it. Reasonably priced and great for those who love Indian but hate the burning sensation (their dishes tend to be mild but super flavorful). more
