If you're looking for a fantastically presented, hipster Italian meal, you might want to go elsewhere....

I took one whiff of this Dinkytown establishment upon entering and feared another Yarusso's (my least favorite restaurant in the world), but fortunately, this place is acceptable....

Greatest restaraunt ever in the history of forever 10/11/2008

I've been going to Vescios my whole life and I've never been any where better ever. The food is always great and so is the service. Even if you don't like italian food you will love it. and I dont know how anyone could write a bad review about it they, are probably crankypants or they were having a bad day, or both. more

North East Italian cooking 4/30/2008

My favorite Italian restaurant will always be Vescio's I am not sure what the two negative reviews are about. As I have been eating at Vescio?s since I was a little kid and I am now 38 so I have been eating their food for over thirty years and have never had bad service or food. I am also an Italian from the North east side of the TC the same area where the Vescio family is from so I know good Italian food when I taste it and this is good Italian food. No mind you this is not your Buca style or chain style or upscale Italian restaurant this is just a home style food that people grew up on in the Northeast neighborhood. Even with the grandkids taking over from the parents who where the kids of the original family the food is still good today as it has been for over thirty years. Recommend the pizza ?Sid Special? and the cannelloni with the meatless sauce. For lunch you gotta have a meatball sandwich the meatballs are to die for! Pros: The Price is right, food has the right flavor, Free parking down the street Cons: People who eat at Olive Garden will expect this to be like that which it is not. more

For the price, I expect much more... 2/18/2008

My family and I went to this restaurant on a Sunday in February. We were looking for something Italian, and because I really do not like the chain Italian restaurants, this seemed like a good choice. It is part of the ""Twin Cities Originals"" (TCO), a coalition of locally-owned, chef-driven restaurants typically known for fresh ingredients. Let me tell you that we were severely disappointed, particularly in light of their membership in TCO. First, they advertise fresh, house-made pasta. yech! I was excited at first, but if the floury, large tubes of goo represent home-made, sign me up for store bought any day. Seriously, I could mix together a bunch of flour and eggs and push it through an old paper towel tube myself and call it home made, but that doesn't mean it will be good. \r \r Most important to my low star ranking is the price. The run-of-the-mill pasta dishes were $12-14 a plate, and the ""secondi"" dishes (like chicken parmesan, etc) were all $15-18. This alone is not unreasonable to me, but for that price, it should certainly be better than a $12 meal at olive garden....It failed in that regard quite miserably. It was very bland, the ""fresh"" herbs on my chicken were dated and dry, and the chicken was very tough...obviously frozen for who knows how long before they finally cooked it. All 7 of us dining had the same response. It seems to be a greedy restaurant given the quality/price ratio.\r \r To be fair, I can't comment on my service as an indicator of what you might receive, as I think it was an aberration. We were not waited on promptly because of a table assignment mistake, and when we ordered, it took well over 1 hour for our food to arrive. The menu warns that the baked items will take half an hour, so a wait was expected, but over one hour (it was about 1:15 from time of ordering to our food arriving) is unacceptable. I can't comment on whether this is a usual practice. Pros: Atmosphere was comfortable and the ambiance was appropriate Cons: Way too expensive for the quality of food. ""house-made"" pasta was very below average more

We had found memories of Vescio's from days ago, but I do not think we will go back 1/4/2008

We went on a weekend with three other adults. The restaurant was almost empty. The waiter was very unfriendly, like he did not want to be working. After taking our order, the waiter disappeared. After a long wait we received some bread and water. The olive oil we were given was badly blended not useable. The bread was good. The food was o.k., but our requests for additional items was either forgotten or ignored. To make a misrable meal worse, our car was vandalized when it was parked in front of the restaurant at one p.m., the middle of the day. It looks to us like there is no management and the restaurant is living on past successes. We will be surprised if it is in business a year from now. Pros: Parking good; dishes appeared clean; break o.k. Cons: Service unbelievably bad more

Save your money and go to an Italian chain! 6/12/2006

I abhor chain restaurants, and try to frequent locally owned places as much as possible. Usually, I am met with amazing food and awesome service--not the case at Vescio's! The pasta I had was one of the blandest things I have tasted in months. I should have saved my $9 and bought a box of pasta and jar of sauce from the grocery store. I am sad to say that I have had much better food at Italian chain restaurants than Vescio's--and this was my third visit in the past couple years. This is not real Italian... it's one good point was the attentive service I received. Pros: Service Cons: The food, location, lack of ambience more

inoffensive 7/17/2003

I took one whiff of this Dinkytown establishment upon entering and feared another Yarusso's (my least favorite restaurant in the world), but fortunately, this place is acceptable. Totally inoffensive (and forgettable) Italian-American food, fine for a snack. I did not try the pizza. Pros: location more
