A MUST SEE 3/22/2011

Everytime a friend from out of town we stop here. The food is fantastic, great portions, hot and fast. The atmosphere is just right- friendly, not uptight. Be sure to try them out. You won't be disappointed. more

Shame 6/24/2010

Whoever thinks that Cuban food should be greasy and mediocre is just utterly wrong. Clearly, the cooks at this restaurant seem to think it should be. I took a friend to his first introduction to Cuban cuisine and I was slapped in the face by the poor quality of the food. I've been going to this restaurant for years and it always had a great appeal, but I'm afraid those days are long gone. Somebody is definitely sitting on their laurels and riding the name of this establishment. A few points to address - The fried plantain dish has obviously shrunken over time (clearly not meant for two people) and yet, the price is just about the same, if not more. These may be hard times, but plantains are far from being pricey. Their moros rice had to be the saltiest version I have ever tried. Unfortunately, water refills were lacking throughout the evening! Sad to say, but this is one Cuban that may not be returning for quite a long while. more

Pleasant Dinner 4/23/2010

While vacationing in Miami my friends and I got with several of our taxi drivers and told them we wanted to experience authentic Cuban food.. Everyone recommended Versailles to be the happening place for us to par take in. We were very pleased with the atmosphere eventhough we do not speak Spanish fluently it was an amazing atmosphere and the price was exceptional!!! We are already planning our next trip to Miami just for the visit to Versailles!!!! Pros: Cheap Food, Authentic Cuisine more

Angry-Vehicle Broken Into 3/27/2010

The food is good, but my locked vehicle was broken into with 2 Versailles parking attendants standing watch. This was at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon!! I spoke to management (Raul Alonso) and he couldn't care less. He told me Miami is a dangerous place and that I would have to sue them. Didn't even have the decency to offer to pay for my lunch! None of the Versailles parking signs say anything about ""Park at your own risk."" I'll never go there again. Try Havana Miami Restaurant on Miller Drive. Much nicer environment and better food. Pros: Good food Cons: Watch your car more

Why don't they speak English at this place? 1/11/2010

I don't normally write a review of place I have never been but I was looking for a good cuban restaurant in Miami and was interested in going to this place until I read the reviews. Alot of them pointed out the lack of english speakers... isn't this in the US? Why don't they speak english? I don't think I will go there now, not that they will miss me but hopefully someone from the restaurant will read this and realize they are alienating people by not putting an emphasis on having nice, english or at least bi-lingual servers.... Pros: see note Cons: see note more

Worst Customer Service 11/21/2009

Recommended highly by a physican I work with. Geographically impaired, we attempted to get directions from South Beach. The man, who only spoke Spanish hung up on me three times. As soon as he told me he did not speak English, I communitcated to him in Spanish. He claimed he knew nothing about directions, and after my fourth call, at my insistence e put me on to an 'English speaking' person. She refused to speak English to me, citing I spoke good Spanish, had no geographical input, and when I asked for the manager, she too hung up on me! We went to Sazon on Collins Avenue instead & enjoyed the best Cuban meal we have ever had. All staff were attentive, polite and grateful to have income generating clientele!!! Pros: Probably historical location Cons: Arrogant and ambivalent Phone Staff more

Good food but needs to screen waiters 3/28/2009

I've always made sure to bring out of towners to this place to experience REAL Cuban food. The service is quick, the food is GOOD. On March 25 at around 7pm or so, my husband and I went there once more to bring a guest. Our waiter, EVELIO, definitely could use more training on asking for your orders, on responding to questions regarding certain food items, and REMEMBERING your order. He was rude to our guest almost dismissing his question about the type and cut of chicken in one of the dishes; he plopped the food down on our table; he forgot my salad, then later, my husband's coffee (and argued that my husband did not order the coffee). He was, no way near what a waiter should be. I'm not sure if he discriminates among his customers. If he does, he should not be a waiter in such a famous place, where people from all cultures come to enjoy Cuban food. Evelio does not represent what Versailles is. It was an unpleasant evening. Pros: Good food, quick service Cons: Waiter named EVELIO more

Authentic food, authentic Cuban feel- Service is HORRIBLE... 5/5/2008

I live in Miami and am of Cuban decent. The food for the most part, is very good and authentic. Be prepared to wait a long time for service and you basically have to hunt down your server. You can survive with speaking english though if you can speak spanish your experience will probaly go smoother. This place is perfect if you want a true feel for Cuban food and the old Cuban culture of the men outside drinking coffee and talking poiltics. Coffee is amazing and everything is priced VERY reasonable. I recommend it but please go in mind with knowing you will receive bad service. I hope management can work on it. Pros: Food is amazing and authentic Cons: Service , what service? more

amazing food, TERRIBLE SERVICE 4/9/2008

i am a miami native, and have been to the versailles quite a few times. i figured i should put in my two cents. the food is almost always amazing and relatively inexpensive. every now and then i get a mediocre dish. unfortunately, the service is horrible. the hostess is generally rude, and the waiters give terrible service as soon as they realize you don't speak spanish. they either don't speak english at all (EVEN THOUGH THEY LIVE IN AMERICA!!!!!), or they do but are too lazy to try. so if you don't speak spanish, expect to either point to food on the menu or pantomime. also, check you plates and silverware when you get them, because half of the time, they are dirty. but again, the food is usually really good. so, if you can stand rude, lazy cubans and bad service, like i can, then it is worth going. enjoy. Pros: great food (usually), good prices Cons: absolutely horrendous service (they should really be ashamed of themselves for representing cubans like that) more

Best Cuban Ambiance 1/2/2008

This is by far the most authentic Cuban ambiance in town! I love going to Versailles because it's the only place in Miami where the 1980's Cuban-American style lives on. The city has changed drastically during the 90's and 00's, somehow this place has remained immune to those changes. People coming to Miami looking for a taste of real Cubans should go to Versailles. Pros: Cuban Ambiance! more

  • When locals only have time to take out-of-town visitors to one Cuban restaurant, this landmark spot is usually the choice, due to its history & its accurate translation of a traditional Cuban Restaurant. Whether you are dropping in for lunch or dinner, or just passing bye for some traditional Cuban pastries and coffee at the Bakery, Versailles is the place to be! We are located right on Calle ocho (8th Street) and 35th Avenue.
