My wife and I decided that we would like to make a wood-shop out of our garage, we purchased several items on this place and surprised that they are so affordable. more

Two floors of the best people selling hardware, homeware and planting supplies 1/27/2007

When I noticed a Home Depot on 23rd Street I passed it by. Over twenty years ago I ambled into Vercesi on 23rd Street, between Lexington & Third Avenue. Being very skilled female I expected the usual suspicious or patronizing behaviors from hardware staff. That first visit I found employees helping men and women alike. My experience has never changed. They sell a variety of, what seems like, every tool invented. If they don't have what I want they will either order it or know of a place that does, often nearby. Plus, as they sell a variety of good planting supplies. They even have a counter for people who have questions. Vercesi's owner hires people who are knowledgeable and want to learn more. No matter where I live in the city I go to Vercesi (almost all trains stop on 23rd Street). Pros: All thumbs & fingers up! Excellent staff, fine tools, good products, great prices! more

Great prices, great service, great product variety 12/8/2006

I've been going to Vercesi for the past four years, and never have they disappointed me. They have everything from that odd type of screw you need to high-end power tools to houseware items. Why pay more at Home Depot or Bed Bath & Beyond when you can literally get more for your money at Vercesi. For example, I bought a pillow-top air matress there for $49 that goes for over $100 at Bed Bath & Beyond!\r \r It's no coincidence (or maybe it is) that Vercesi scrambled spells ""Service"". With a staff that is always friendly and knowledgable even at the busiest times of the day (i.e. Saturday afternoon), this place a true gem in NYC.\r \r Insider tip: Check out the upstairs for more stuff! Pros: service, prices, product variety more

Non-pareil hardware store 7/7/2006

Trust me. I know construction, and I've lived in the neighborhood for 40 years, and Vercesi is the best in town. I've gotten a lot of good, friendly and unfailingly accurate advice. The sales staff will give you the same attention if you're buying a $400 power tool or a couple of lightbulbs. If all small businesses were run like this, Home Depot would be nothing more than someone's bad idea. Prices are great, open 7 days, meters in front. Simply the epitome of a good hardware store. Pros: Pricing, sales help more

All your hardware needs! 1/3/2006

When I first moved to the neighborhood, this was the best choice. Then Home Depot opened and I actually cheated on the guys and gals from Vercesi and went to Home Depot. What a mistake!! The people who work at Vercesi actually care about helping you. They take the time to find out what you really need and will go the extra mile (i.e. finding rebates for paint supplies, or carrying heavy items to your door, or making sure you buy the correct wattage light bulb). The staff is always friendly and have a real down-home feel. Not to mention the prices are lower than most other hardware stores I've been to. I shall never stray again. Pros: Helpful, Friendly, Inexpensive Cons: No high end fixtures more

Great place 11/3/2005

It has tons of stuff and the staff is extremely helpful. more

I love this place 6/4/2005

I go there all the time. It's a really big, extremely well-stocked store with more than just hardware -- they have tons of kitchen and bathroom items, and cleaning products. It's big and roomy and bright unlike a lot of cramped crammed pitch dark hardware stores. Best of all, if you're female, you know how you get a lot of surprised looks and patronizing attn from most other hardware store employees -- like ""you must have no clue since you're a woman""? Here there is none of that. Only smart, speedy service from extremely competent, friendly employees. Vercesi is the BEST! Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Save time, save money, get what you want/need 3/3/2005

The monster Home Depot can't compare with this place. Crammed with everything anyone would ever want for a New York City apartment and, get this right, they are priced right. I didn't expect that but I found it to be true. AND the people working here like their jobs, they listen to what you're trying to do and figure out what you need. AND they are quick. If you want to be in and out, you're in and out. Or you can browse around the two OTHER FLOORS of stuff. Incredible. Pros: Great Service, Priced Right, They've got it. Cons: nah. They're good. more

best hardware store in gramercy 8/22/2002

GREAT service. gets really crowded sometimes, but they're very nice and the prices here are great for NYC hardware stores (i.e. reasonable instead of horrifyingly expensive). wide selection of lots of stuff. nice return policy. Pros: great service, open 7 days/wk, good prices Cons: sometimes crowded more

I love this place. 8/20/2002

They've got a great selection, good prices and good service. I've just remodelled my home and Home Depot was always such a headache with their long long long lines, missing stock/price tags and messy shelves (but I admit to decent prices and wide selection). I'm willing to pay the slightly higher prices at Vercesi in to avoid Home Depot and driving out to Brooklyn. Vercesi has the lowest prices in Manhattan, an orderly store and good service. Good example: Looking for lightbulbs, $4.99 at grocery store, $3.99 at pharmacy, $1.99 at Vercesi -- same bulbs. I come here for everything now. more
