It is hard to imagine a less impressive address than a strip mall on Main Street in Norwalk, but Valdostana manages to rise above its drab surroundings. The main room can be a bit loud, but maintains a homey feel generated by a staff that appears to be an extended family which welcomes you to their home. The extensive menu is good with a few flashes of great. Chicken Martini, a chicken cutlet crusted with Parmesan cheese and served with a lemon butter sauce and artichoke hearts, stands out as a simple but creative twist on the standard Italian fare. Quiet on weekdays, Valdostana picks up on weekends, when a grey-haired crowd fills the tables to enjoy the excellent value and live music provided by a decent Perry Como wannabe. Overall, a great neighborhood joint worth a visit, especially before it gets too popular.
