Intimate and charming, BYOW 5/14/2007

Every time I come here it feels like family: super-cozy, good service and food is tasty. Minus half a star because parking can be a chore and no liquor license, but you can bring your own bottle of wine and they'll open it and give you wine glasses, free of charge. I love the quattro stagioni pizza (unusual but great combo of toppings) and the pasta with pesto sauce, and anything with the piccata sauce! They also deliver, which is great when you just don't feel like missing Family Guy :) Pros: Pizza, service Cons: Parking situation more

Poor Service - Twice in a Row and a hair in the food! 5/1/2007

I had a disappointing experience at Ugo in the past, but it was month's ago, so I decided to give it another chance. I went with a couple of friends for lunch. Things started out okay, but soon took a turn for the worse. The waitress gave us about five minutes to look at the menu before asking us what we wanted to order. She then took about 15 minutes to get our drink order. The food is not terrible, but it's also nothing special for the price you pay. I ordered the chicken and vegetables and received three thin pieces of burned chicken that could have been taken from a Lean Cuisine box. The most annoying thing though, was the fact that the waitress didn't seem to be listening. I specifically asked to have the vegetables brought out without any butter or salt and they came out doused in butter. When I mentioned it to the waitress she just shrugged it off. My friend also asked about some soup that he had ordered - all of us at the table heard him order it - and the waitress basically denied that he had ordered it and then didn't bother to ask if he still wanted it. Then, to top things off, one of my friends found a hair in his sandwich. Ultimately, I will not return to this restaurant. It's just not worth it when you can have a much better meal and experience elsewhere. Pros: Outdoor patio Cons: Overpriced/ Poor service mistakes / Average food more

greasy food 2/10/2007

This place is good if your in a hurry. The pizza and the garlic bread is extremely greasy. The toppings on the pizza are always centered in the middle of the pizza, not evenly spread out. The garlic bread is too greasy too even touch. more

Below Average 1/28/2007

I don't get this place. Rude wait staff at the Culver City location. I recently ordered $70.00 worth of food for a take-out, got it home and saw that one of the pastas was missing. When I called back, the rude order taker accused ME of getting the order wrong. No, ""what can I do to solve the problem,"" ""I'll throw in some dessert,"" etc., NOTHING. Nothing but attitude and grief. When we got the food home, the pasta was average. Arriabata was just OK, pasta primavera was rubbery tasting. Pizza was ok, but nothing special. Basically go if you're in a pinch, have to go to a movie in Culver City and nothing else is available. Otherwise, go to Giovanni's or Novacento in Culver City, where they smilingly serve you quality and authentic Italian food. Look up these two and I'm sure you'll have a great experience. This is not better than CPK! Pros: prices Cons: rude service, average food more

Never Again 11/16/2006

I expected something impressive based on the reviews, but now I am quite sure they were written by the owners. The food was bland and boring, especially the supposedly amazing tiramisu. I have eaten much better at CPK. The pasta is what you get at Olive Garden. Add the complete lack of ambiance (T-shirt on the wall?, exposed aluminum pipe?) and the uncaring incompetance of the wait staff and you get a ""never again"" Pros: Anna's Italian is down the block Cons: Food, Service, Parking more

Fantastic Find 7/13/2006

My bf and I ordered delivery from this place and absolutely loved it. The food was fresh, homemade, and generously portioned. And for a Friday night, the delivery was quite prompt and the person who took my phone order was very nice. We ordered a caprese panini which came with a side of really freshly made vegetable soup. We also ordered some pizza slices (they also sell entire pizza pies), some homemade meatballs, and vanilla hazelnut/chocolate crunch gelato. everything was perfect. we've decided that this place is our new favorite spot. Pros: Great food, Free delivery, Great Prices Cons: None so far! more

This is the real deal people! 6/2/2006

My husband is Italian and not easily impressed by places claiming to be Italian, however this place is one of our regular favorites. The food is authentic, delicious and reasonably priced. Pros: Inexpensive, Delicious, Healthy Cons: Parking, Can be crowded more

Fine piece of pizza 4/26/2006

I was pleasantly suprised the other day when I tried this restaurant. I had passed it many times before, but I had never gone in. I had a reasonably priced Margherita pizza, which was in all honesty one of the best pizzas I have had in Los Angeles. Highly reccommended! more

Love your Pizza! 2/11/2006

One of the best New York Style Pizza's I've had in a long time! I think I'll be back very soon! Thank you for the great dinner Ugo! Pros: Pizza, Price, Service more

great calzone 12/31/2005

The calzones are not too cheesy, just the right size. Small place but good ambience, average service but the price is right. No alcohol yet but you can bring in your own bottle of wine for no charge. Pros: ambience, food Cons: tight space more

Nothing to really Rave about 12/10/2005

I was there for Dinner, the Service was Sub-par and the pizza was actually mediocre, for a small place you would think service would be better, but actually the owner/manager seemed impartial to my opinion that the pasta was a little undercooked. Overall a 2 out of 5 rating, I would not give it a good review. Maybe i was there on a bad night, but i dont think I'm a very critical person, just did'nt enjoy my experience there. On a positive note, their Tiramisu was pretty good. Cons: slow service, food undercooked, manager impartial more

Good pizza!!!! 11/19/2005

Try the specialty pizzas...they are great!!!The delivery service is pretty fast and friendly...I loved cafe' hugo. Pros: pizzas, delivery more

yummy! 10/30/2005

We order in for lunch and they are generally earlier than they quote and the food is always warm when it arrives. Everything I have had is very good and it is a very vegetarian friendly menu. The Melanzane Panani is amazing! more

be sure to try the soup 9/8/2005

We've been going to Ugo's on a ridiculously regular basis since shortly after they opened a couple of years ago. The food is very good, the pizza especially so (tho my kids like the calzones and my husband might opt for one of the pasta dishes.) The daily soup is always a treat -- I had the asparagus soup last night and it was fantastic. Delicious espresso and Italian desserts too. One warning: the parking can be a hassle, tho there is a free (at nite) lot a couple of doors down. more

A real find 8/31/2005

After driving by innumerable times, I finally ate at Ugo.The menu is wide-ranging both in variety of food and in price; there's something here for almost every budget. The quattro formaggi sauce is the best I've ever had, and the side dish of asparagus was wonderful. I can't wait to go back and try the cannoli. However, Ugo is a small restaurant and gets crowded almost immediately. I don't know if they take reservations, but I'll call ahead next time to ask. Pros: food, value Cons: parking, noise, crowded more

Obnoxious service/ lousy food 8/2/2005

Overpriced, and lousy service, i would not endorse them if they even PAID me too! more

Erica V 6/7/2005

I am not a fan of italian food, but I love Ugo's! The food is great and so is the service! The owner, Ugo, is nice and always makes time to greet all his guests. This is the perfect place for a quaint meal. The food always taste fresh and authentic and the desserts are very delicious. Pros: beautiful setting, great food, personal service more

Great for pick-up 3/14/2005

I've been to Ugo a few times but this was the first time I call in for pick-up. It was very good. The food was hot, ready when I arrived. And they were very pleasant during a busy after work time on Pico. more

A quality experience! 3/6/2005

My wife and I order delivery from Ugo on a regular basis. There's a good selection for vegetarians and carnivores alike. We are fond of their panini sandwiches, which are tasty without being greasy or overly salty. Their calzone are generously portioned and just the right balance of cheese and sauce -- not a heavy, cheesy mess like at Maria's down the street. Finally, their insalata mista is perfect: fresh greens every time, with garbanzos and lightly marinated carrots and a flavorful vinaigrette. Service, whether delivery or in-house, has been great. Highly recommended! Pros: good service, delicious food, delivery service Cons: limited seating more

Just like Italy! 1/29/2005

Mu husband and I just returned from a trip to Italy and we found Ugo when we returned to LA. Ugo's food is excellent! We have been to far more expensive Italian restaurants in LA but none taste as authentic and as fresh as Ugo. We have been coming back every week. Highly recommended. Pros: fresh food, good value, good service Cons: small place, no wine more
