Nice place for late night coffee 8/9/2008

This review is for the Lower Queen Anne branch - it seems that some of the other reviewers were actually reviewing other locations, such as West Seattle. The coffee and desserts are not outstanding but I've found the quality to be reliable, although the dessert selection is somewhat limited. Service is friendly. A couple of times I asked them about the ingredients in a coffee drink whose name I didn't recognize (it was probably something that Uptown Espresso just made up) and they happily explained. I rarely have cash so I tend to pay with a debit card and sometimes feel bad about it when I'm making a small purchase at a small cafe or restaurant (they have to pay fees to the card processor when they are paid with a card, so they make less money). When I apologize for not having cash and using a debit card, Uptown staff always says it's no big deal - and they say it like they really mean it and don't mind, which makes me feel better! Late nights during the week are perfect for working on your laptop because there is plenty of seating and it's quiet. They're open until 10 pm Mon-Thu, which I guess is when most people go to bed on weeknights, but I wish they were open later, at least until 11 pm. Pros: Good coffee, good service, plentiful seating, convenient location Cons: None, really... Maybe they could add a few more options to their food selection... more

Bad service 12/18/2007

Always always a different barista everytime i have even gone there are new people who have no idea what they are doing. The food is okay , dont like pinapple-apple pie.( the crust is amazing though.) And croissants are changin overcooked- undercooked. Muffins undercooked and so are the cookies most the time. more

Uptight Espresso 5/13/2005

I have visited the West Seattle branch of Uptown Espresso several times in the last two months it has been open. I must say it is the WORST espresso bar in the entire city. The baristas (there's a new one every day) are not very helpful and seem very miserable. I order drinks for myself and co-workers and so I don't always no which one is which. Unlike Starbucks, which writes what's what on the cup, Uptown told me to do that myself. Not only that, they don't even put the lids on the cups. This is the reason that Uptown Espresso is beginning to be referred to as UPTIGHT ESPRESSO in my neighborhood. Cons: Expensive, Inconsistent, Rude more

the Best Coffee Shop in Seattle 2/3/2005

Highly consistent; Great soy lattes; Unquie blend of drinks...ones with orange peels and others with mint sprigs; People are Seattlites---go figure...friendly...but not fake...Real Chai (no creamer added) and Extra foamy on the Latte. NEVER had a Bad cup of coffee!! Pros: Try the Stewart & 6th Cons: Zero Cons more

don't understand 10/14/2004

I don't understand how a city with a reputation for great espresso can make such bad espresso so popular. Several times at different uptown locations I have tried espresso and cappuccinos and have been amazed at how poor they taste. I rarely go to starbucks; however, the times I have the superautomatic machines with charred coffee beans have managed to pull me a better shot. Pros: atmosphere, locations Cons: , taste, taste more

QA Uptown is cool! 9/7/2003

Home of the Velvet Foam! 12/8/2002

The sliding glass that opens to make it hard to tell where the 4th ave sidewalk ends and their living room begins. Their big comfy leather chairs and unique decor are quite inviting. Then when I had my first latte I quickly learned why Uptown is indeed as they boast to be the ""home of the velvet foam."" So nice! I'm hooked and happy that I live in belltown and get to go to uptown! Pros: Best Latte in Seattle, Warm Atmosphere Cons: No Internet ISP more

yummers 9/23/2002

I think the coffee, service and atmosphere is great at the Belltown location. Love ya Uptown! Pros: big, comfy chairs, Nice lighting, good music Cons: parking(sometimes) more

Best Soy Latte that you ever had 8/10/2002

I love the Belltown location! As a frequent visitor from Vancouver, I find the service fast and friendly. Even with 20 people in line, the wait is never more than 5 minutes! more

I Agree! 7/31/2002

I agree with the last reviewer. I was in the QA Uptown two weeks ago waiting for a latte. The barista saw me and looked away and continued her conversation for about another minute at least. Fortunately, I wasn't in a great hurry, but the customer service was of no great importance to her. I'll think twice before I go out of my way for an average latte and poor customer service. Pros: Nice atmosphere, Good location Cons: Poor customer service, Mediocre latte more

Home of the 30 Minute Latte 7/30/2002

Okay, I'm exaggerating a bit there, I don't know why people like this place so much. I mean, the decor is pretty nice and mellow. It's a very chill, neighborhood cafe. However, I always associate this cafe with long lines and s-l-o-w service and not-that-great coffee. The baristas seem friendly to those in front of me in line, and just gabgabgab. And then when it's my turn it's all business. Where's the fun in that? I'm not scowling or anything! I don't even remember what the coffee tasted like, but it wasn't worth the wait. Pros: Cute decor, Nice atmosphere Cons: Long lines, Coffee not great more

Little Globs of Happiness 7/23/2002

Uptown Espresso is #1 on my list of places to go when I want a nice comforting latte. I am not necessarily a fan of mochas, but Uptown has a canister of mini chocolate chips on their service counter that you can add by a mini scoop-ful into your latte. DON'T STIR! If you just let them gently melt in place, by drinking your latte with a straw, you will get little globs of chocolate happiness in every sip! Ahhh...heaven! Pros: friendly staff, yummy lattes Cons: staff too chit-chatty more

Favourite neighborhood coffee 7/3/2002

Uptown is the coziest coffee nosh on Queen Anne. Great, warm colors, antique furniture, top-notch beans, delightful staff & endless sprawls of newspapers. more

Great place to hang out 5/20/2002

I've spent many days in this place, reading a paper or chatting with friends. The lattes are terrific and the baristas have the perfect amount of attitude. They're having fun... more
