Date place 3/20/2006

Union Square Cafe has been around for a number of years. I first went there on a date and it was really nice. The service was attentive. The food was great. I was just back there a while ago and the food was just OK. The atmosphere is still very nice but for what you get it is a little overpriced. There are better places out there. more

Overrated 3/20/2006

Union Square Cafe has always been one of the top 5 most popular restaurants in Zagat so I decided to give it a shot. Everything I ordered from appetizer to dessert was at best so-so. My friend was less fortunated and had to deal with soup which tasted like grease. At least when he complained to the waiter, the waiter said he'd take it off the bill. Overall, definitely nothing to write home about. more

No longer unique 2/22/2006

It really stinks when a place that was once original falls to it's own imitators, and even worse if it's because the original has it's head too far up its hooha. Yes, the food is good, but you have to try hard to find awful food in the City. You are paying for the legend and the atmosphere, which has nothing to do with food in my opinion. more

Still one of the best 10/31/2005

I've been four times as of last night and expect to enjoy many evenings to come. Satisfaction is what I look for in a restaurant experience and I've yet to be disappointed here. The service is friendly but not phony, attentive but no hovering. The food is innovative but not out of bounds for my evolution from a meat and potatoes upbringing. Comfortable elegance really describes the experience. The wine list is carefully thought out, with very good value. Value to me means; quality and complexity at a moderate (not bargain) price. I feel like I've just scratched the surface of memorable meals I will have there. Please don't go.... so I can get a table. more
