Go for the raw bar! 9/19/2005

I know that the Union Oyster House is a very touristy restaurant, but they must be doing something right to be the longest continuously open restaurant in the US. While the restaurant food is OK, it's the raw bar that you want to try when you are there. There's only room for a dozen or so people to sit, but it's such a fun place to be. The guys shuck everything right in front of you and have great stories. They also liven things up by throwing ice at the tourists looking in the windows. You can't get fresher clams or oysters. more

Best Oyster 8/4/2005

It's one of the most famous restaurants in Boston. Union Oyster House has the longer history around the area and once you are in their you'll see a bar table serving just oyster. The other part of the restaurant and the second level is the dining area and there are a variety of seafood for people to choose from. Place is fair for a must go Boston restaurant. more

Owner Message
  • The Union Oyster House, located on the Freedom Trail near Faneuil Hall, enjoys the unique distinction of being America's oldest restaurant.

This Boston fixture is housed in a building dating back to pre-revolutionary days and started serving food in 1826. The stalls and oyster bar where Daniel Webster was a regular customer are in their original positions. Today's politicians, celebrities and tourists still come in to enjoy the food.

We are the third family in nearly two centuries to own the Union Oyster House. (857) 264-2380
