Best

My wife and I go the Market Theatre on a date night atleast once a month. It is a cozy improv club in Post Alley just down the stairs from the pig. We arrive a little early and ...

Worst

U.P. is not a bad group... but you can't compare them to Jet City Improv because it's like apples and oranges. Oranges are funnier than apples.

Unexpected Productions is by far the best and deserves respect! 7/7/2008

I'm a long time fan of improv and comedy writing. It's painfully obvious someone from Jet City wrote those negative reviews about Unexpected Productions who is by far the superior company when it comes to actually improvising. Unexpected Productions revolutionized improv in Seattle. They are the reason companies like Jet City Improv exist! Whenever I'm in Seattle (which isn't as often as it used to be) I try to see an improv show. Unexpected Productions Theater Sports show is the one I recommend, hands down! Especially if you're an adult, although I've seen this group handle an audience with kids in it too. The last time I saw it there was a birthday party of kids and a birthday party for a 40 year old along with two bachelorette parties. The Theater Sports cast handled everyone with professionalism and showmanship, being sure to tease everyone as well. They even ripped into an obnoxious heckler in a very entertaining way by shutting him up and getting his friends to laugh at his stupidity! I will always be grateful to Unexpected Productions for the years of great memories they've given me and will hopefully continue to give me in the years to come. more

i didn't care for it 5/19/2006

i wasn't so impressed. it was boring, like they didn't care about us as audience members. i can't tell if they were having fun up there, or just going through the motions. i like feeling appreciated, especially after shelling out 12 bucks. more

My favorite theater in Seattle! 5/19/2006

Brilliant, daring, intelligent theater has the audience both laughing and thinking. more

Don't Go To Seattle W/O Seeing UP!! 5/18/2006

I had a ball seeing this group of actors perform. They each bring something unique to the table, and the chemistry between them is obvious. Each scene happened very organically, which added to the(no pun) unexpectedness of the performance. I liked that it was kept light hearted, but at the same time, the performance made some good points about current events/issues we are all facing. I can't wait to go back to Seattle to see them again!! more

A Seattle treasure 5/18/2006

My wife and I were visiting from Louisville,Ky and wanted to do something downtown, so a good friend recommended Seeing Unexpected Productions' Theater Sports show and it was really entertaining. The performers were really creative in their characters and story lines. They gave one of the best performances we've seen in a while. The judges and audience participation really completed the experience. I'm sure we'll go again next time we visit. more

Truly Unexpected 5/17/2006

This is the perfect example of what improv should be. I have never seen any other ensemble that can free fall with such grace than Unexpected Productions. Their shows can be funny as hell, and yet at times can be serious in mood and very moving; Improv is not always about gags and this team knows that. And I have seen enough shows to notice the wide range of talent that UP is made up of. This place is perfect for dates, family outings, and just general fun times. See them soon! more

Worth the trip! 5/12/2006

Unexpected Productions never fails to entertain. I often travel to Seattle from Vancouver, BC specifically to see them. The shows are always fun, funny and fresh. Watching people like Elicia, Amanda, Randy (and really all the folks there) is a treat as they make each show special - and, they are all so insanely talented!. I highly recommend making a nice romantic trip out of it. A day of seeing the sights of Seattle, followed by a delicious dinner and a night of world class improv....I can't think of a better way to spend an evening. more

nice place for a date 5/11/2006

what better way to romance your loved one than with laughter? unexpected productions has nice atmosphere, unique, funny shows right under pike place market. check out there earlier long form shows too, there are a little mellower than theatersports. more

unique and fun 9/26/2005

Try an Unexpected Productions Improv show for a unique entertainment experience. It's not a movie or a typical theater production, it's an audience participation show where audience members shout out suggestions that the cast members use to improvise short comedy skits. It's a different show every time you go. There are Theatre Sports shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Try to reserve your tickets in advance; if you just show up the night of the show they may already be sold out! more

Halarious 9/7/2005

Unexpected productions plays their improve shows out of the Post Alley Theater behind Pike Place Market. They create two “teams” that compete in “theater sports” in front of a panel of judges with suggestions from the audience. This show never gets old! The actors are truly talented and they always manage to make the audience suggestions hilarious. I have never left disappointed. The only downside is that parking can be difficult in this part of town at this hour of the night. Try to find a spot on 1st avenue if possible. Post Alley is quite literally an alley so be prepared for a bit of a walk no matter where you park. more

Improv for those of us who don't usually like it 8/22/2005

I am the first to admit that I’m not an improv afficianado, but even I enjoy my visits to see TheaterSports by Unexpected Productions. The improvers are true actors, taking the scenes to new heights that are better than some plays I have seen. The audience is a little loud, but if you can get past that, you will have a good time. more

No need for imrov-ment 7/22/2005

Unexpected Productions takes improv to a new level. The improvers are inventive and hilarious, and they don't let the inevitably-inebriated audience give them stupid and obscene suggestions. I love watching them perform. While their Friday and Saturday night TheaterSports shows are the most popular, I actually think their earlier long-form shows (performed at 8pm on Friday and Saturday) are even better and funnier. more

Spontaneously Amazing 5/31/2005

Unexpected Productions is the best improv in the Seattle area. They are 100 times better than Spin City, which are like bunch of superbabies trying to act compared to these folk. Look on their website ahead of time to see who's performing: Gabe, Elecia and Randy (the co-founder) are DEFINITELY worth the money, but they're all good. Also, they constantly hold fun events such as international improv fests and improvathons. It's a small theater, and reasonably easy to get a good seat, but to seal the deal you should get there about 9:45 (the show starts at 10:30 on Fridays and Saturdays) because on weekend nights a line always forms. more
