The Nightclub is a Smokin' HOT Joint!! 12/18/2005

My girlfriends & I had a scandalously good time at Umbria's nightclub! Stimulate on Friday night is the place to get your groove on. We started out on the 4th floor dancing to techno, but it was the irresistible hip-hop & reggaeton beats on the 3rd floor that had us shakin' it down. We rocked the dance floor with cute guys until closing time! Abundant banquets & sofas were available for lounging. But seriously, we danced so hard to the blistering beats, there wasn't much time for sitting. I'll be back with even more of my ladies fo' sho'!! Pros: Hot dance beats, Hip atmosphere, Cheap parking garage Cons: Expensive drinks, LOTS of stairs, Smallish dance floors more

Dissapointing 12/8/2005

My colleague and I ate here for lunch. We ordered the margherita pizza, and I ordered the gorgonzola/pear salad. The pizza was tasty, yet much too greasy. The salad was bland. The biggest dissapointment were the prices. They charge $3 for one small soft drink, and then although they take it away automatically to re-fill, they charged us for the re-fill. What a poor policy! We will not be going back. Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: poorly prepared food, over-priced more

Not a winner 10/13/2005

Two weeks ago my boyfriend and I decided to have dinner with another couple. After reviewing the menu we agreed there was not a good selection. Due to the pricey entrees we passed on appetizers and chose a bottle of wine instead. After we ordered the waiter told us he would bring us bread. It took at least 25-30 minutes for us to receive the promised bread and trust me it was not fresh from the oven. When we did finally receive our entrees the portions was amusing. If you are looking to leave somewhat full be sure to request an extra basket of bread! As for the service, lets just say that our waiter was literally running all over the place and the hostess loudly argued with another patron. Overall, the only true enjoyment of the evening was the company (okay I admit the bread was decent). Cons: Expensive, Portion Size more

Ugh! 8/26/2005

I came here for a friend's 30th birthday party and was very disappointed - because of both of the food and the service. The food was average - not worth Umbria's prices. The main problem, though, was that our waiter was really strange - he basically kept yelling at us, or clarifying things in a really aggressive tone. And we were definitely not being difficult or demanding at all - he was just a strange person. He poured me a whole glass of white wine as I was telling him I wanted to change to red, and then he went to throw the glass of white out - from a $40 bottle - instead of giving it to my friend. I felt like I was under attack from the waiter all night. Strange. Pros: Good ambiance Cons: Bad service more

more than a restaurant 8/20/2005

Good collection of Italian dishes from Umbrian region of Italy. Artfully presented, flavorful. Seemed a bit pricey but rich decor warns you to expect as much. Small dining area puts you close to frequent interruption by entry of twenty somethings dressed to impress in upstairs dance clubs. Upstairs is one of Boston's better dancing scenes (fourth floor, techno bass; fifth floor, hip hop rhythm). Small dance spaces get crowded easily - not sure that's a problem! You'll also find an extensive vodka collection. Cover charge for clubs if arriving after 11pm - so arrive early and have a drink. Overall, great place for a Friday or Saturday night. Pros: dance scene, food quality Cons: expensive more

Il Panino it ain't.... 4/27/2005

We really use to enjoy Il Panino, so we decided to visit its replacement for lunch yesterday. Everyone at the table had a pretty bad experience. Service was extremely slow. Our food was nearly tasteless (or just bad flavor, take your pick). The bean dip served with bread was begging for garlic. My appetizer of grilled veggies was OK, but really only saved by the shaved cheese on top of it. I had the "lobster sausage" for my entree--this consisted of an egg-roll sort of wrapper filled with lots of breading and a little lobster. They were over-fried and the filling tasted something like those frozen stuffed clamshells you can get in any grocery store. The rabe side dish was bitter. Only two dessert choices--both cannoli, and they were all fried shell w/very little filling. Others at my table ordered different, equally bad things, but we all agreed--we'll never return. Pros: Ambiance Cons: Food Quality, Service, Few desserts more
