Spicy 6/16/2006

Two Urban Licks is in a converted warehouse that has been filled to the brim with strangely shaped lights and exotic paintings that frame the city skyline. I went with a large group and we sampled nearly every item on the menu. I thought the innovative appetizers were the highlight of the meal, with the delicious spicy lamp lollipops draped with goat cheese and grape chile being the thing I most remembered. The garlic bread was the most delicious I have ever tasted. The entrees were less memorable, some of them being simply over-spiced and the quality of the fish was mediocre. The desserts were wonderful though, with cupcakes and ice cream nicely complimenting a spicy meal. I though the prices were reasonable, especially for the wonderful appetizers. If you love spicy food, I recommend simply ordering all the appetizers and then having dessert. Skip the entrees. If you see something that looks good that goes with an entree, simply ask for it. We got the gouda grits and sweet potato fries, listed with entrees, separately and they were worth it. more

Been there food is excellent - ambiance is dark / hip, very trendy - a bit too noisy - really appreciated the parking. more

Urban Licks 11/18/2005

Urban Licks is one of those cutting-edge restaurants that make a statement about almost everything it does. The centerpiece of this renovated urban warehouse space, with its large roll-up industrial windows aimed at the city's skyline, is a 14-foot-tall rotisserie tower. Sharing a round of appetizers is a good way to enjoy the tapas treatment at Urban Licks. Very high-energy environment. more

A Must Try in ATL 8/25/2005

My husband and I decided to try this restaurant after some friends told us about it. It was a short drive from home for us. The drive up to Two Urban Licks is interesting to say the least. It's located in a large old warehouse. There are plenty of signs to show you the way to the valet parking which is good. When driving up to the valet parking you drive under an enclosed area to get out. This is where it starts to look like a restaurant is actually inside this huge building. When you walk in there is a decent size indoor patio. It's got huge skylights that I think open up. The hostess stand is up on the right with a floor to ceiling glass wine case on your left. The decor is amazing in this restaurant. One side of the restaurant has candles going all the way to the ceiling. The other way is gray with glass vases. The back wall is all glass with an awesome view of the Atlanta skyline. The seating is very comfortable. The prep kitchen is in the middle of the restaurant. So you can see the chef preparing dishes. The menu changes daily so you never know what to expect. The menu is split into 4 sections: apps, soup/salads, main courses, and dessert. The back of the menu is the wine and drinks. One of the best things about Two Urban Licks is their wine. They size wine is several different sizes. They sell is by the glass, mini-thief, small thief, 1/2 thief, thief. We ordered a 1/2 thief of Pinot Grigio which was about 4 glasses at $24. For apps, I ordered the Salmon chips and my husband got the gumbo. The Salmon Chips come out on a wood plank. I highly recommend these but I will warn they are a little spicy to me. My husband's gumbo came in a cast iron bowl and it was very tasty. I ordered the Red Snapper for dinner. Wonderful cut of fish that was barely seasoned so the true taste of the fish came through. My husband got the brisket. It was smoked for 12 hours that day and was very tender. It had a wonderful smoked favor. Now for the best part: Dessert! They have this great dessert called Cupcakes and Ice Cream. The ice cream that night was homemade Rocky Road. The cupcakes were six mini cupcakes. There were 2 red velvet, 2 chocolate, and 2 amaretto. This just put the icing on the cake for us. We will definitely being enjoying this restaurant again. more

Hip restaurant with great food 8/9/2005

Walking into this restaurant made me feel much hipper than normal. I went for a girls night out and we were all dressed up and ready to relax. This was definitely the right place. The atmosphere is very trendy. Great artwork, modern decor and a HUGE rotisserie in the middle of the room. I think it's around 14 feet high but very cool. We sat outside on the patio and got to watch the sunset over the city which was quite stunning. Okay, onto the food. It was so good that we kept tasting each others trying to figure out if anything wasn't fantastic. The salmon chips are great as an appetizer but I heartily recommend the Prime rib for your entrée. They use the rotisserie and the meat is done perfectly. Crispy on the outside but fork tender inside. Very nice. For dessert we got the mini cupcakes with gelato. We were already pretty stuffed but it was good enough to gorge. Overall a pricey but great meal. Perfect for impressing someone. more
