Wonderful people and beautiful pieces 5/20/2010

9 years ago I was stuck in Austin for a week and discovered this shop - bought some small tin ornaments and was treated as courteously as if I'd bought a major piece of art. Was in Austin again and discovered them again- found a pair of amber earrings that just matched a necklace I've had for years. Still as friendly as they were way back when!? Pros: great location, prices Cons: zero more

DO NOT WASTE MONEY HERE- The ruddest store in Austin + Cheaply made products 2/22/2009

My boyfriend bought me an amber bracelet for $200 for X-mas. From the 1st time I wore it, the clasp continuously came unfastened, held on only by the loose safety. I only got to wear it 3 times before the clasp completely broke off, causing it to fall off of my wrist (scratching the stone). I took it back and the 2 men in the store told us they could see where the insert clasp was too thin for the holster and that they had a really good person who does their repairs but that the owner (who would be in an hour later) would need to see it and would then call us to figure out how to handle it. He never called so we phoned the store 2 hours after the owner was to be in. The owner told my bf that they don't do repairs and there was nothing they could do about it. My boyfriend tried to explain the clasp situation & the guy started laughing at him and said he was annoyed w/his workers for telling us they do repairs. My bf asked him to stop laughing at him but he continued to be extremely rude, to laugh and said the stone was badly worn (it had 1 scratch b/c it fell off my wrist b/c of the cheap clasp). My bf told him that when he buys high end jewelry he expects higher quality and owner's response was ""this is not high end, its really just medium end"". He refused to speak to me and hung up on us. We repeatedly called the store w/no answer. He called back only to say ""you have had the bracelet for 3 months & there is nothing we can do about it."" I told him I had in fact only had it for 2 months (12/22 - 2/22) but when I asked him to stop interrupting and listen to me he refused & kept yelling in my ear - ""I can't hear you"" (like a child) & again hung up. We went to the store to get the bracelet back & he said there is NO warranty on their merchandise & refused to speak w/me about it. I have never been treated w/such disrespect and this store does not deserve to be in Austin or to steal money from honest Austinites. I am appalled that it is still in business. Pros: NOTHING Cons: Quality, Service- EVERYTHING more

Fabulous Latin American Folk Art 5/3/2008

I do not go to Austin without stopping in this shop -- the collection of Latin American Folk art is so exciting and comprehensive. Don't miss going -- it is worth jockying around to find a parking space on Saturday! Pros: Incredible collection more

Cheaply made jewelry with a high price. 12/12/2007

I bought a ring from The Turquoise Door for $160.00. Within 3 months the stone fell out while I was wearing it and was lost. They would not replace the stone without , as quoted by the store's owner, ""a hefty charge"" . As also quoted by the store's owner ""that's all I can do"". This was a Barbara Cole ring and the store owner said he bought her rings from an agent and that's all he could do. Since I had bought the ring within 3 months of the stone falling out, I think The Turquoise Door should be responsible for getting the stone replaced for me at no additional cost, whether it's through the agent or Barbara Cole herself! But the store's owner made it quite clear he wasn't going help me. I feel like he just stole $160.00 right out of my wallet!!! I will never shop there again and encourage you not to also and not to buy Barbara Cole jewelry. Cons: They don't stand behind the products they sell. more

Exciting and rare 1/13/2006

one of a kind specialty store filled with beautiful mexican, aztec art Jewelry,etc.. Prices range from mid- to high end. Quality of Merchandise is beautiful. The owner as well as employee's take great pride in their shop and are knowledgable about all the lovely and unusal merchandise they display and sell. I was greeted and assisted everytime i walked through the door with and was shown nothing but kindness and was assisted no matter what i asked to see. I have no clue what Mr.Fuentes was talking about but it surely wasn't my experience at the ""Turquoise Door"". I suggest that everyone who is interested in above mentioned merchandise to visit this establishent and judge for yourself. Pros: exciting store, quality merchandise, informed help Cons: parking more
