Still The Best Meal I Ever Had 3/19/2011

I've been visiting Tujagues Place for over 10 years. They continue to excel at the fixed menu dining experience. It is a step back in time when you walk in here. A perfectly portioned, great attention to details five course meal for under 50 bux. Each portion is delicate and savory. Save room for the bread pudding and coffee. If you want an off the menu experience ask the water for the Chicken and Gahlic' served over house made potato chips and Pahsley. TRUST ME! more

My wife and I have eaten at a lot of places in and around New Orleans, many of which we would be happy to highly recommend with glowing reviews. more

French Quarter Foodelicious 5/11/2010

Not only do you get the sounds of New Orleans right outside the door, but you walk into a historical past. One of the best atmospheres to enjoy a nice cocktail at there unbelievable bar, or sit down to a fabulous meal of local cuisine with a little flair in each item the wonderful service brings you. I find the brisket to be the best in the world. The Bon Femme is a family size plate of fried chicken cooked to perfection with garlic and onions and scalloped potato fries. A dining experience everyone must try. Pros: Brisket, Bon Femme, Service Cons: Have to show up to and see if there are any! more

brisket sandwich at the bar 3/15/2010

I went for the brisket sandwich, which is served at the bar. I have no idea if the restaurant is good, probably? Maybe? Don't know. The brisket sandwich at the bar though: really really good. A sturdy french roll with plenty of tender, not too fatty brisket smothered in a tomato based, aggressively peppery horseradish sauce. Better than the sum of its parts. Pros: the sandwich Cons: it's a bar more

Not as bad as it could be 1/7/2010

I have visited NOLA many, many times and always passed by this place as a crappy tourist trap/food place. I had a pretty respectable meal here, during Mardi gras of all times, the gumbo was pretty good (not great) and your safe with oysters and boiled crawfish. more

elementary school cafeteria food 12/28/2008

If you have never traveled, never had good food, and long for the food served in elementary school cafeterias, then you may love this place. To those that are sick of reading glowing reviews of backwards, mediocre at best American cuisine, please don't waste your time or money on this shockingly bad restaurant. Our meal consisted in part of turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce perfectly emulating the spirit of an open faced turkey sandwich in a truckstop. Pros: open on holidays Cons: fake reservations, food was bad, price was way too high for such low quality food more

Solidly good creole cuisine 7/28/2007

I felt compelled to write this review solely because of the attacks against Tujague's. Don't expect a dinner that is going to change your life...chances are, you'll probably have a better dish elsewhere if you're visiting for a few days. However, my wife and I (who have lived around New Orleans for the past five years) thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. The shrimp remoulade was good, the brisket was very good, the gumbo was excellent, the entrees were very good (my wife had the crawfish etoufee while I had the chicken with creole sauce), and the bread pudding was very good/excellent. Overall it was very good. To those of you complaining about a bad meal, from what I know about and have experienced at Tujague's, you probably had a freak bad experience. It happens. As I said before, you can find a better dish in New Orleans, but it's hard to find five courses that are this solid. Pros: 5 solid courses, service, interesting historical setting/decor Cons: restaurant is chilly, the expense is disproportionate to the atmosphere, more

Worst food I"ve ever eaten in the French Quarter 5/29/2007

We live in the New Orleans area and went there becauseout of town requested it. The food is terrible. Yes it is typical cajun cuisine, but the gumbo was the worst I've ever eaten and the crawfish etouffe was uneatable. The waiter stood in the middle of the noisey room and recited the fixed menu to everyone. There are many good places in the French Quarter to eat, but this is not one of them. Pros: Easy to get in Cons: Bad food, bad service, noisey, expensive more

Classic New Orleans 6/23/2005

Tujagues was one of the only traditional New Orleans meals we were able to find. We had a lot of great food in New Orleans, but this was a really good treat. The crawfish etoufee and gumbo was outstanding. Pros: Value, Food Cons: Parking more

Be hungry 6/28/2004

The prix fixe menu is pricy, but you get enough in the five courses to make it a good value, and the food is excellent. Be hungry, or you will not be able to enjoy it all. more

In a word...EXCELLENT! Pros: friendly, great food, Park on the river more

No good! 5/31/2004

Went to Tujague's hoping for a romantic and fine dining experience. Turned out to be our worst meal on our New Orleans trip. The food was horrible especially considering we paid $35 each for the meal. The crab and spinach soup tasted like white gravy with small chunks of clam and for the main course we had the crawfish pasta which had no flavor and BBQ shrimp over rice which had a awful aftertaste (I could not even finish the small portion because it was so disgusting). The only items that even half way tasted decent was the bread and coffee. The restaurant was loud and the temperature was very cold. The only good thing about this restaurant was the history behind it. Pros: History, Service Cons: , Atmosphere more

Too Good 1/13/2003

A great experience. The place is worth the trip even if you don't eat. We showed up with 12 people and were ushered into a private room with excellent service. Food was great and a good time was had by all. Pros: surroundings more

Wonderful Experience 11/29/2002

Sometimes, not having to choose your dinner from tons of menu items is refreshing. It's like having dinner at a friend's house. The service here was wonderful. The waiter was prompt, polite, attentive, etc. The food was also yummy and gave me a chance to try things I would never order on my own, like beef brisket and remolaude sauce. I had the crawfish pasta for my entre and it was also super yummy, nicely spiced, and just the right portion. It is a little pricey, but if you want to splurge it's worth it. Pros: Great Service, Expertly prepped food Cons: Expensive, No variety more

No Jacks 11/20/2002

We had a terrible experience here! We had read good reviews but were terribly disappointed We had the creole dinner meal. The 3 entree choices were: a chicken dish with a creamy sauce which tasted much like those cambell soup dishes so popular in the 70's, oysters over pasta, or crawfish etoufee. None were good. The portions were extremely small considering most restaraunts in the city heap it on. My shrimp roumalade featured 4 mini shrimp; my soup (gumbo) did not contain any meat pieces (my husbands had one piece of sausage and a small piece of chicken), the brisket of beef was approximately 1 inch long, by half inch wide and 1/4 inch thick; and the dessert was the worst bread pudding I had tasted in all New Orleans. We will not go back! Pros: cheap liquor, room for large groups, not crowded Cons: terrible food more

What's for dinner?? 11/18/2002

If there is a night when you don't want to make a decision about what to have for dinner, come here. The value is very good, as is the food and best of all...you don't have to decide what to have, they have already made the decision for you! more
