Bouncers steal your stuff 1/5/2010

DONT GO HERE. Small, stinks like period and sweat, bouncers like to steal your coat, posessions, and your OWN id to feel like they're in control. Extremel expensive drinks and bathroom had feces and urine all over the floor/toilet. more

Best place 10/23/2009

i really dig the tube. it is always kinda different. it's the best scene in old town by far. the djs are always great. the bartenders are groovy, but sweet. the tube rules! Pros: $2 drinks :-) Cons: bathrooms are a bit sketchy more

Fun Happy hour 8/22/2008

This is the place to start, or end a good happy hour. It goes till 10pm! The drinks are very stiff, and they have a lot of vegan options, and they are good. I love the ambiance of this place, and the creepy bunnies on the wall are well worth seeing. Highly recommended for their happy hour! Pros: the stiff happy hour drinks. Cons: smokey atmos more

A-ok. 12/29/2007

Very smoky, kinda expensive....HOWEVER my drink is always strong and they have vegan food, so A+ in my book. The rabbits with red eyes are creepy but fun, and this is a great place for people-watching and dancing. more

different days...different experiences.... 11/11/2007

I've been here on super busy days, and dead days, and it seems to be a different crowd every time. One night it was all ""hipsters"" and ""scene kids"" and another night it wsa more of a preppier crowd.. All in all, I like the Tube but it is usually way too loud to talk to your friends, even on the slow days, BUT they always make my drinks super strong. Pros: Drinks have been super strong every time Cons: The music could be way better more

The best kept secret in Portland 3/4/2007

Generally speaking, the type of person most likely to actually write a review of a bar on citysearch is not going to like this bar. Which is good. Because those people are not welcome. High maintenance douche bags, frat boys, and self-entitled yuppies can all go somewhere else. That being said, the bartenders at Tube are really nice and down to earth despite their ""hipster"" appearances. Just don't expect them to kiss your butt. The happy hour is probably one of the longest in the city (5 - 10 daily. 2 dollar wells!) and the bar menu welcomes vegans and vegetarians but still takes care of the meat eaters. The DJ's are probably the most innovative in the city. Where else can you hear Universal Order of Armageddon or Les Georges Leningrad in a bar while drinking a two dollar well drink and eating a vegan ham and cheese? Pros: The bar and DJ staff, the events Cons: it gets smoky sometimes but it's improved as of lately more

MADE SOME CHANGES..... 2/23/2007

As of recently it seems the bar has revamped several things. New flooring, new booths, no more duct tape holding things together, new DJ's, better smoke eater and the menu. $2 wells drinks and super cheap veggie & vegan happy hour menu ( theres is a ""real"" hot dog and 2 ""real"" turkey options though!) The bar does still get a little smokey on super busy nights but as far as im concerned its totally improved. Tuesday night s seem to bring in a huge crowd and the Dj is pretty good. I like thursdays. Less people, good real good DJ and it feels way more relaxed. This bar isn't for the faint of heart or anyone who expects table service. I love the TUBE. Pros: cheap happy hour, good Dj's, hot bartenders, good food more

Crowded, but amusing... 11/16/2006

Upon entering Tube, I immediately felt claustrophobic--perhaps a trick of the layout--but was further enhanced by the throngs of hip kids. Hip kids dancing in the only path to the bar, hip kids making out or otherwise occupying the benches and chairs along the wall, hip kids lined up a mile long for the bathroom. The drinks were not amazing enough to compensate for the atmosphere, and though the bartender was friendly enough, it took some serious maneuvering to even get to the bar. One plus--watching drunk hipsters dance themselves silly to Top 40 hits. If you are in the scene, then you will find a flock of like-minded people here. As for me, somewhere with a little more personal space would be much better. Pros: people-watching (for a while at least) Cons: crowded, bad music, average drinks more

Ruined 7/19/2006

What was once one of the most unusual and beautiful bars in portland has now gone down ""the tube"". I hadn't been in nearly a year and the change is shocking. The place was once sleek and stylish. The place has been poorly remodeled. There is duct tape holding parts of the ceiling up as well as the vinyl bench seats together. They added some space but ruined the flow and the atmosphere reminds me more of the Sandy Hut than ""futuristic concept bar"". Good job hipsters! Pros: Drinks are cheap (if you are cute) Cons: Atmosphere, DJs, Smokey more

amazing happy hour! 6/10/2006

$2 wells, $2 vegan appetizers that are verging on meal-sized.\r super nice, super skilled, good looking bartenders and staff.\r great DJs, good art exhibitions.\r \r the tube is very smoky, yes, but if you sit near the door, it's not so bad. many other bars frequented by a similar crowd are WAY WORSE on the smoke front. more

Disgusting haze of smoke; cookie cutters hipsters 3/11/2006

I walked in and then walked right out. It would have been healthier to take a hit off of an exhaust pipe from a Volkswagon Beetle circa 1963. Well below average atmosphere. Ironically, a nonsmoker recommended this place to me. Cons: Exhaust Pipe Feel more

this place is weird. i had a headache upon entry. drinks are not cheap! more

Like a long tootsie roll. 3/20/2005

I love the Tube! Cheap drinks, nice bartenders, good dj's, good looking people and a great vibe to it. I don't think I've ever been let down for a good time at this bar and I'm glad it's so hidden because it doesn't need too many more people going there. Pros: cheap, good staff, busy Cons: crowded more

better now 1/13/2005

I think the editorial review is really outdated. You can get alot of vegan/vegetarian friend food and an eclectic mix of cocktails as well as old favourites. I havent found that the smoke factor is as bad as previous user reviews, maybe they improved the ventilation? I would definitely recommend this place for small get togethers and to people watch. Pros: vegan late night food, different ambiance, eclectic dj's Cons: , only 2 bathrooms more

INTRIGUING SETTING 7/3/2003

I came hear with a small group of fellow architecture students and was amazed at the design of the space. The Tube is different in it's design from most bars around the area. Everything from the frosted glass that turns transparent as the night begins to the television sets playing back re-mixed nights in the bar of the past, this bar is great for small groups to come and enjoy each others company and the overall experience of the setting. The service is great and I would highly recommend this bar to anyone who is looking for that something extra. Pros: Intresting setting, Reasonable prices, Great service Cons: A bit crowded, Hard to find parking, Air is hazy more

A gem in the Portland night scene 10/21/2002

This isn't about food. It's about atmosphere. I figure if I can get a drink at any bar, then the ambiance and service have to be special. The Tube is just that. I find myself returning there over and over, and it's usually to turn others on to such a unique environment. The Tube is indeed a gem in the Portland night scene, and would stand out in cities twice the size. It just goes to show that good design and good service go a long way. Pros: The ambience, The service, The beautiful people Cons: The music can be loud, Limited seating, $7 drink specials more

Tubular 5/13/2002

This place is, indeed, a tube, and a bit claustrophobic. Ventilation is bad--the place gets super smoky. It's all about drinking; I didn't see anyone eating, and it's really not an environment you want to eat in. Pros: scene Cons: smoky more
