great food, even better people :) 10/10/2009

I had the combo plate, which is very good (and vegetarian too). I got it ""to go"" because the few seats were already filled. The food is good in itself but the people there are truly a credit to San Francisco. I had never eaten there before, but I had dropped my wallet on the sidewalk in front of the place after having lunch next door. A passerby found it and brought it in. I returned later, retracing my steps, and the Truly Mediterranean people recognized me from my driver's license. Everything was still inside, including cash, which they wouldn't even take as a reward because they didn't know who the passerby was who had found it. Needless to say, I have a new favorite Mediterranean restaurant, and the experience makes me feel better about living in San Francisco. I am truly glad that this city has such good people, and after a fine dinner from there I can recommend the place with confidence. Pros: food & staff Cons: not much seating more

Overrated in a city with (unusually) very little good Middle Eastern food 10/28/2007

This is pretty average Middle Eastern food. Runny hummus, tahini like water, dry falafel, crappy salads - all the marks of mediocrity. Pros: Late night, useful location Cons: Mediocre Middle Eastern food more

Great falafel, nearly no seating. 1/14/2006

Great falafel in the tradition of great falafel bars. Seating is at a minimum though, and they use flatbread, not pita for wraps, which is an interesting twist. Pros: Food, Inexpensive, Quick Cons: Not much seating more

Good food but take out 3/26/2005

Too small to eat in. Excellent swarma and falaffel. It always seems to be open pretty late too, great for after a show at the Roxie. Pros: Cheap eats Cons: Too small to eat in more

Tiny, but Tops! 8/13/2003

Don't let the size fool you. Don't be intimidated by the middle eastern music blasting from this place with plenty of vocal accompanyment from behind the counter. Walk right up and order a Shwarma. Or, if you're vegetarian, grab a fresh Falafel Deluxe. The regulars know to go on Tuesday and Friday for the Chicken Shwarma (too small to have two roasters!). Pros: Incredible Food, GreatFriendly Service Cons: Tiny more

great falafels 3/15/2003

I went to this restaurant with my friend from Paris and she loved it ! A shame that there is no place in Vancouver (let alone in Victoria !!) where they make Falafels as delicious as in Truly Mediterranean. I MEAN, I can't help myself from going there whenever I visit SF. Piece of advice : if you want great mediterranean food, go there, take my word for it ! more

Fantastic!!! 2/19/2003

Fabulous, fabulous, absolutely fabulous. The shawermas, falafel and baklava are DIVINE! Pros: food, friendly service Cons: no room to sit more

yum-yum 10/2/2002

truly delicious. Fabulous food and swanky decor makes this dining experience an affair to remember. Would come back for seconds and thirds anytime, anyday. Love this restaurant. A true find. more

Singing, flirting, great food 8/12/2002

If you want fresh, delicious ingredients, singing & dancing cooks, and want to see a beaming smile on your grandmother's face when the handsome man at the counter with a provocative accent winks and flirts with her, go to Truly Mediterranean. The service is fast and courteous, the Middle Eastern music on the stereo lively, and the food never fails. The falafel is made with fresh ingredients, scooped into balls, and fried crisp outside, tender inside right before your eyes. The tabouleh is the best I've had, made the way it should be with a vibrant lemon dressing, crisp cucumbers, and lots of parsley. The flatbread is grilled after the ingredents are rolled into it, so that you get that nice crunch, then the chewy texture, followed by steamy, fragrant filling. I drive 3 hours round trip to eat at this restaurant. You will love it. Pros: inexpensive, great staff, fast service Cons: parking not good, limited seating more

An Absolute Favorite 8/2/2002

If you're looking for a great place for Greek food to go, this is your place. I go there often with my friends and we all agree, its' the best REAL food you can get for $7 or less. The service is friendly and efficient, and you will never leave hungry (unless Greek food isn't your thing!) Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive Cons: Waiting in Line, Parking is a hassle more

Best Med, Costs Creeping Higher? 7/23/2002

I love this place, perhaps it's the proximity, more likely it is the amazing falafel et al served up by these friendly folks. I get mezmerized watching the rotating lamb dripping its lamb-y goodness onto the tomatoes below. My only complaint is that the super falafel can cost around 8 bucks or so, which hardly compares to the affordability of a burrito (especially for lunch). Despite the slowly climbing costs, I wouldn't ever turn Turly Mediterranean down! Pros: Falafel, Falafel, Feta Cons: Too good to pass up, $8 lunches = no cash, Snag table outside more

AWESOME 5/21/2002

Imagine my joy when I noticed the new TM in North Beach! This is simply the best food ever. The staff rocks, they are really nice. I would eat there every day if I could. more
