Had a company party there for Christmas 2008 of about 30 -35 people. ALL the waiters were rude, never smiled, were not polite, slammed glasses and plates down on table, bumped into guests without saying "excuse me" or any other apology, had to ask many times for refills and butter replacements. NOT ONE TIME DID A WAITER SAY "YOUR WELCOME". Salmon with mashed potatoes were okay. I, personally, had made much better in my home. The crab/artichoke soup was okay, nothing special. I had been to the one in Dallas a few years ago, and it was worth the money. Here, in Houston, I would go elsewhere and miss the attitude and non-impressive food. I will not be back for a party or as a casual diner... Pros: The bathroom was really, really nice... Cons: Spend your hard earned money or even your easily earned money elsewhere... more

After reading the reviews and hearing from friends how wonderful Truluck's is, we decided to give it a try for our anniversary. And we are so happy we did. From the minute we walked in the door and was greeted by the friendly hostess to the end of the evening when one of the manager's was at the entrance saying he hoped we had a great evening. Our waiter Armando was the best...very informative and his suggestions were spot on. We started out with a crab cake that was the best we had ever tasted. There was only enough breading to hold the fresh all white lump crab meat in place. My husband had the shrimp and grits that was cooked to perfection with the largest shrimp we have ever seen. For me, Armando suggested the redfish pontchartrain that was outstanding. The carrot cake for dessert was scrumptious! But all of their desserts looked yummy. Make sure to go on an empty stomach because the portions are large. Another plus is they have over a 100 wines by the glass and a great bar area with live entertainment. If you have a special occasion you are celebrating, make sure you let the hostess know when making your reservations. They make sure your event is memorable. more

My wife and I had just finished spending the day shopping at the Galleria and were starving. We went straight to Trulucks dressed very casually and without reservations. We opted for the bar instead of the main dining room. They had live music and an even livelier atmosphere. We ate the stone crabs which were great. Presentation was good along with the dipping sauce. Wine prices and selection were good too. I would definitely go back but would probably stick to the bar area since it was so much fun the first time. Service was prompt despite the large crowd. Pros: Food and Area Cons: Parking WILL be a challenge if you hate valet. more

The food was tremendous here. Whether it was the seafood, beef or chicken, the flavor was on point. Try the lobster tail with hollandaise sauce or the trio. Pros: the best restaurant so far here Cons: $$$ more

I've eaten at Truluck's several times and have enjoyed it every time. On Friday, I celebrated my birthday here w/ friends. We had the sauteed superlump crabcake and the deep-friend Rhode Island calamari for our appetizer. I ordered the Dutch Harbor red king crab, as usual. It's massive & very good. It comes with mashed potatoes & asparagus. The mashed potatoes are very good. The service has always been great every time I've been here. I highly recommend Truluck's. Why it's not the #1 seafood restaurant on CitySearch or even on the top 10 is beyond me. Pros: great seafood, especially the red king crab, service, ambience more

Awesome Stone crabs 12/14/2006

I used to live in Miami and the stone crabs at Truluck are as good as Joe's in South Beach (one time I waited for 3 hours for a table at Joe's). I used to have to fly back to Miami for stone crabs, but not anymore, Truluck is my place for stone crabs in Houston. For those who are not familiar with these tasty claws, you MUST try them ( if you like seafood esp. crabs) especially with the mustard sauce. Bring your date and he/she will be impressed with your knowledge in this little known seafood in Houston. It's definitely a class above lobsters/king crabs, etc. and it's well worth the price Pros: Stone crabs Cons: $$$ more

I've only been here once, but it was an experience that will bring me back! I had one of the Best steak dish! Even though this isn't a steakhouse, their steak topped even one of the well-known steakhouse I went to in town. The ribeye I had was marinated just perfectly and cooked to just the right degree that I requested. And my boyfriend loved his prawn dish too! Another plus, they had a HUGE variety of wines by the glass to enjoy. Not only that, my waitress was so attentive and sweet! I can't wait to go back! Pros: great steak and crabs Cons: none that I know of more

I dine on at Truluck's on a regular. They have a new location in the making closer to the Infamous Galleria Mall - Between Sage & Little York - situated across westheimer from The Capital Grille. Truluck's staff is friendly and courteous in service and the food is far beyond your one's inital expectations. The Crabcakes with signature martini makes conversation a reality. The bone in Rib-Eye makes any grown man flabergasted with taste and comfort. Fresh Trout with a crabmeat topping with a glass of white wine makes a lady a goddess with each bite. Dessert is a take home night-cap to complete an exceptional evening in the Uptown Galleria - Houston, Texas. Pros: If your in the dog house with the wife, boss are an associate this place will win them back. more

I made reservations for my boyfriend's birthday. It was right down the street from my house, but we had to change them twice because we were running late. They were very accomodating and didn't forget (even though it was late in the night) that it was his birthday. The food was really great. The service was equally as impressive. Even though it was late, our waiter did not seem to mind. Spent about $150 and we both had a few drinks. We will be back. more

I was very disappointed with my experience @ Truluck's.I felt as if my party and I were a burden to our server. He was very impolite and rude.My glass was never refilled and everytime someone in my party asked him a question it seemed to irritate him. I thought the food would redeem this restaurant but to my surprise it was almost as bad as the service. I had the shrimp and when it came it was cold and greasy. On the upside the restaurant's atmosphere was nice but it was definitely not worth the money. Pros: ambience Cons: service, food more

There is *nothing* like a plate of fresh Stone Crab Claws. Period. Each claw is a sweet, succulent popsicle of pure decadence. We always eat in the Bar, and it's a real treat every now and again. Update:- 3/9/07 We love the new location! The much bigger bar doesn't have quite the same atmosphere as the old location, but the main floor now has curved booths everywhere and looks really great. Oysters were wonderful, Stone Crab Claws exceptional. Bartender Anthony took really good care of us. Head wait Anne has been there 15 yrs and knows *everything*. I know the steaks are wonderful here, too, but we can't get past the Stone Crab and Bolly by the glass! Pros: Fresh Stone Crab, New Location, Bar Cons: $$$$, $$$$ more

Visiting from northern Cali, we decided to go get some gulf seafood and texas steak. This place was great! My boyfriend had the australian shrimp and it was phenomenal. I had the filet mignon and it was super tender and buttery. The rest of the party enjoyed their dishes as well. We didn't unfortunately save any room for dessert but the tray looked great!!! A great reason to go back :o] I highly recommend the restaurant. Pros: 100 wines by the gls, great food, good service Cons: bathroom by smoky bar more

I'm speechless! Start with the Poblano Pepper Soup and the fresh Fla. Stone Crab Claw Appetizers. Awesome! We probably could have/should have stopped there. Wish we would have had a steak after reading the other reviews but wanted to have steaks @ Pappas Bros. for dinner (thinking now that was a bad choice - it wasn't that great @ Pappas). Crab-stuffed snapper wasn't great but it was good - maybe the soup should be dessert. Ask for Rick Stanley - great waiter, perfect timing and insisted I take home a dessert for my birthday. The carrot cake was moist, delicious - best I've ever had and I'm not a dessert person. Can't wait to go back! Pros: great service, excellent soup, prompt seating Cons: none, none, too far from home more

This place is amazing. This could be the best filet I have every had, and with 90 wines by the glass, you can pair your meals to your heart's content. To top it off, the fresh stone crab is out of this world. Most people have never actually had fresh stone crab (it's usually frozen), so they should definately check it out. Not cheap, but well worth. Pros: wine list, fresh, attention to detail Cons: noisy more

Great Restaurant and Experience 8/27/2004

What a fantastic restaurant, and one built around the concept of fine dining. It is the little things, like specially making your coffee on the spot when you order it, instead of giving you the coffee from lunch when you order it at dinner. Don't come here for inexpensive food and dont compare this place with your regular chilis experience. This is not built on quanitity of customers, but instead on getting quality customers and treating them justly. At first I thought our waiter was slow, but that was because I am used to being rushed in and out of a reatuarant by the restaurant itself. If you are inpatient, dont come here. Come here to relax, enjoy excellant food and a great experience. The appetizers are wonderful, the entrees are splendid and the desserts are not your regular standard, apple pie, brownie w/ice cream, fruit something and a cheesecake. Pros: Crab legs, Desserts, Fine dining Cons: , Noisey more

My husband and I recently celebrated our 11th year anniversary just and had dinner at Truluck's. I would have to say that it was top notch. The food, drinks and staff were excellent. I couldn't recommend any other place to go for a romantic night for dinner. Truluck's staff made our night a night to remember for the rest of our lives. They went above and beyond with their service to make our night very special. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for that wonderful memory. Pros: wonderful food, great drinks, very romantic more
