I just moved from NYC to Nashville and was very nervous about finding a new hair salon. I've been going to the same girl in NYC for years. A co-worker recommended True Blue Salon and I couldn't have been happier that she did.. I've been 3 times now and can honestly say I'm home! I've been to Kim and Brandy and they both ROCK. I love my hair and the scalp massages are sublime. The facial was the best I've ever had and all about half the price of my New York salon! Thank you True Blue!!!! not made to feel welcome 11/10/2009

One of the first things that drew me to the salon was the advertised promise of a scalp massage and makeup touch up with every cut. I was never, ever offered either. If not going to offer it, then remove it from the print advertisements. On more than one occasion when inquiring about pricing, I was treated as if it was an annoyance (by the stylist) with a loud sigh and a 'let me see'. I feel the stylists and owner should have their prices down and should not hesitate to be forthcoming about said prices. Once, when I noticed a spot after a highlight job and brought it to the attention of the stylist, she very rudely commanded me to 'look at her' and then said 'there is not a spot'. Which is basically challenging my opinion as a client and it goes back to the saying 'the customer is always right' . Well, they should be. But that was not the case here. I observed other clients sometimes being offered samples, or receiving said head massage, or just being pampered in general but my experience was not that way at all. On more than one occasion, I was asked to hold an item (such as a foil) for a stylist, or to assist with brushing my hair. I feel that when I am dropping several hundred dollars or close to it - I would like to be pampered a bit and this is not the place to receive that, by my experience. Furthermore, in regards to the work, the color was sloppy at times. I had more than one occasion where I had some spotting after getting highlights put in. In general, I believe all salons could work on being more friendly. Really, having a snooty attitude doesn't give the impression of being upscale, it's just frustrating to the general public who will happily take their money elsewhere to find a place that will make them feel truly welcome. I could write more but I would summarize it by saying I was not made to feel overly welcome. If anything, I felt like i was a burden to the stylist. I just had my first experience at True Blue. I had been letting my hair grow out for about a year and decided it was time to bring the cute back. The receptionist suggested I see Graham. He did a great job! Especially since I didn't really know what I wanted and didn't really have a good shape to start with. I love my hair cut and have already gotten several compliments. The rest of the staff was very friendly as well. I will definitely be returning. more

Best facial I have ever had! EVER!!! 1/28/2009

I had a facial from Beth at True Blue Salon... and it was the best facial in Nashville! The front desk staff was very courteous and offered me the greatest Aveda tea while I filled out a skin questionaire. Then Beth came and introduced herself to me and showed me to her new room(after they have just expanded-beautiful!). She explained to me first steps: undress from the waist up, take off all jewelry, take off shoes and socks and ""dont lie down yet, I will give you a hand treatment and wrap your feet while we talk about what you want to do today.""\r She dipped my hands in paraffin and wrapped my feet in damp hot towels before we started! Nothing I had ever experienced in a facial before, and such a wonderful start! The neck and shoulder massage may as well have been from a massage therapist! Top notch! Then she gave me a 20% buffered pumpkin glycolic peel that was absolutely fantastic! She explained to me the benefits of it and it has no down time! And my skin looked great immediately! \r She was so informative and I bought some Aveda skin care products! The products are fantastic and I have never been so impressed with a facial in all my life! I have had facials before and felt like it seemed as if it were just slapping product on my face and thats it.. but this was true skin care and true pampering! \r \r Beth gets 2 thumbs up! Book Brandy. 11/24/2008

I have been going to Brandy White at tru Blue for about 2 years and really like the way she cuts and colours my hair. We change it up a little everytime I go and I have am always really happy with the results. Infact I always like it even more after a coupe of weeks and the cuts do grow out well. Brandy is really versatile and has done my ""wedding hair"" which was blondey romantic curly updo, through to a dark 'euro"" looking cut with blunt fringe etc, and lots inbetween. Pros: Brandy is imaginative stylist, open to change, great cut and colour Cons: 'waiting chairs"" not that comfy...makes a difference when you are waiting on your colour to take! more

helmet head 11/10/2008

For my 56th birthday, I had my hair cut at tru blu as a gift, my hair was down to my waist so I knew there was no way for a professional to screw it up. OH, but guess what, the stylist did not listen, my hair was very thick, I told him I wanted whispy bangs and layered to my shoulders, OMG, I was given a blunt, helmet head all one length, right below my ears haircut, it was awful, I looked like Rosanna Danna on Saturday night live, I have been so depressed over this mess, everything I told the stylist, SCOTT went in one ear and out the other, I want my money back, and the 20 dollar tip I gave Scott, and I would not let this man cut my dogs hair. I've had several facials at True Blue Salon by Beth Hunter and she is the best in Nashville! She is very knowledgeable of her trade and keeps up to date with all the new techniques. My skin and face feel and look their best after her treatment. The Aveda products she uses are top notch. I can't tell you how nice it feels to be pampered like that. She explains the different types of massages and creams and lotions she uses. I have bought several gift certificates for facials with Beth for my friends and they all love her and the products too! I try to go once a week and I get a lot of compliments on how good my skin looks. I can tell my wrinkles and lines have diminished since I've started going to True Blue and Beth. I recommend her to everybody! Part of her treatment is paraffin wax and massages to your hands. Heaven! more

Best haircut ever!!!! 5/15/2008

Heard about the place from a friend,but read reviews on here about stylists,and chose Scott.I walked in and the place was very impressive,the staff was super friendly.Scott was amazing,he did a consultation with me first.....and made great suggestions.My hair is absolutely fabulous!!!! Kim Hunter has been my stylist at True Blue for around 15 years. No matter how far I have to drive, I will continue to go to Kim. True Blue is a fabulous Aveda salon, and the atmosphere is just what I need to treat myself. Finding a talented stylilst that you absolutely trust is not easy, and I recommend True Blue to everyone. After many unsatisfactory haircuts, I have settled in with True Blue. The staff is so friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere relaxes you immediately. After a stressful day, I feel very stress free and able to put my hair in their capable hands. Scott (who is wonderful) has given me a fabulous look that I get so many compliments on by family and friends. He always seems to know what will work with what I am willing to do with the time I have to get ready in the morning as a new mom. He's great! A friend of mine recommended Rya to me about six months ago. After scheduling an appointment with the lovely and oh-so-sweet Lydia, I met with Rya for my first cut. She listened carefully to my concerns, offered several suggestions and was very patient with me. She took her time to cut and style my hair and made product suggestions without being pushy. I loved my new cut and style and left feeling like a million bucks. What I really liked about Rya was that she took the time to listen to what I needed. Always friendly - Free Aveda Tea plus a great cut! 1/2/2007

I first came to this salon when I moved to Nashville about 2 years ago. I had been a loyal Aveda customer for years. I have very fine hair (difficult to cut and get it to look full and have shape). Rya gave me a great cut, listened to everything I had to say and always offered for me to come back for a free bangs trim anytime in-between. My only complaint now is that it is getting more difficult to get an appointment with Rya as so many who wanted to know who cut my hair (because it looked so good) are now loyal Rya and True Blue customers as well! Lydia always calls me a day ahead to confirm my appointment and also calls to let me know if Rya is finishing the previous client early or running behind (this saves me time). Plus, there is always delicious Aveda tea waiting on me when I get there. Keep it up True Blue - I love you all!! Pros: Near Maggie Moos - No parking problems Cons: Too many good referrals because my stylist is so good - I need to quit giving out her name - LOL! more

Hair Butchers 12/28/2006

Let me preface this by saying that when it comes to my hair, i am not high maintenance. My motto is, ' well, it will grow back ' if something ever goes wrong. Well, that was until I went to Scott at True Blue Salon. A friend had gone to him once and said he was good for only $35 so I went.....big mistake!!! He didn't listen to a word I said about how I wanted my hair cut. My hair is thick and it is important to thin it out and put layers in it...welll, The layers were AWFUL!!! He just lifted up my hair and started hacking away at it!! I was appalled. I didn't realize how bad it was until the next day when i was blowdrying it myself...BAD!!! Then, about 2 weeks later, the friend that had recommended Scott, called me almost in tears saying how she had just come back from getting her hair cut by Scott and he had given her a ""bangs shelf"" and that she didn't know how she was going to fix it. My friend is not a drama queen and is very easy going about her looks so i knew for her to be upset it had to be pretty bad! i went over to her house and like she said it was a ""bangs shelf""....absolutely awful!!! her bangs were so thick and cut half way back her head that we had to spend $50 on bobby pins, and headbands to cover it up until it grew out enough for her to go to SOMEONE ELSE to cut it into an acceptable style! DO NOT GO TO SCOTT!!!!! more

Great Experience 12/20/2006

I first went in there for a haircut and had an appointment with Erin. She did a fantastic job. She took her time with me and asked exactly what I wanted. Although she used several products on my hair and showed me what they were afterwards, I felt no pressure to buy. I also went back and got my eyebrows waxed and it was wonderful. It was like going to a spa. My eyebrows looked better than they ever had when I left there. Both times were great experiences. I can't wait to go back. Horrible experience 11/2/2006

I love Aveda and had a bad experience at this salon. They do not listen and do what they want to your hair. Be VERY CAREFUL if you choose to go here. I strongly recommend that if you have a specific idea of what color and cut that you want - GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! I'm truely dissappointed. Best haircut EVER 8/27/2006

I recently moved to Nashville from Texas. I had a great colorist in Tx and I was really worried about finding someone here. I went to a salon (I wont say the name) and they basically screwed my color up. I was devestated. I found True Blue and I went to see Brandy. She has been working with me to correct my color - and to keep my hair healthy. It has been great. Her color is awesome, her cuts are great and I couldnt be happier!! If you need someone who really KNOWS how to color hair - go to Brandy. If it were not for her, I would be flying back to Tx to get my color corrected. Pros: Brandy! Edward Scissorhands! 8/1/2006

I just started going to True Blue after doing my research here on Citysearch. I ended up going to Brandy and my 1st cut was pretty good, but when I went back for my 2nd appointment I came out VERY dissapointed. After showing her a picture of what I wanted ( long bangs) and to let my layers grow, she ended up doing the EXACT opposite. My bangs were an inch and a half long and the texture of them looks like i cut them with toenail scissors. They are awful. I have had to pull them back since i've had them cut. I am going on 3 weeks and the shortest piece won't stay back in a bobby pin. Everyone I have showed them to has gasped. Brandy even told me she cut them shorter than what i wanted because ""she just knew"" i would need them trimmed in 2 weeks! I'm sorry, but aren't i the paying customer. I can't stand when hairdressers take it upon themselves to do whatever they want and leave the paying customer having to deal with the repurcusions of their actions!
