Trudy's is quintessential Austin - great atmosphere, great Mexican/Tex-Mex, yummy and creative margaritas, the perfect shade tree to enjoy them under. Grab some friends and hit the picnic tables in the shade and order the Mexican Martini Margaritas - and relax and enjoy! more

Amazing drinks and best enchiladas I've ever had, Only had bad service once, and it was a large table. I think he knew that he was getting his 18% gratuity and was being an ass just b/c he didn't have to work for his money. more

...I can make a Mexican Martini at home 3/12/2011

Honestly, I cannot think of a time that I went to Trudy's without a Mexican Martini on my mind. The food and the customer service were definitely not the things that brought me inside. I haven't been back in about two years, as I have a better Mexican Martini recipe at home, minus the poor service! If Trudy's were the only Tex-Mex joint in town, then maybe I could deal with the overpriced plates of cheese, the aloof attitudes of the under skilled waitstaff and the sheer ineptitude of the managers. However, I am fortunately not in that boat--I live in Texas! I need only drive a little further down the street--any street that a Trudy's is on--and find a better establishment. more

Good, laid back food and alcohol but very little variety. 12/31/2010

Not Good for Groups 8/2/2010

Trudy's is absolutely NOT good for groups. On a Monday at 5 p.m. they would not seat our group of 10 (7 parents and 3 kids) unless we split into two tables. Management said it would be hard to serve us. There were only 10-15 people eating at this time, and there were two open tables along a wall where no server would ever need to pass through. Oh well - we took our $250+ bill to Z'Tejas on 6th, and I will never bring people to Trudy's again. Pros: n/a Cons: They do not serve groups larger than 8 more

LEARN TO TIP OR STAY HOME 4/11/2010

I WORK AT TRUDY'S SOUTH AT LITTLE TEXAS LANE AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH HORRIBLE CHEAP TIPPERS IN ALL MY LIFE. FOR YOUR INFORMATION WAITERS IN TEXAS MAKE 2.13$ AN HOUR. WE RELY ON TIPS FOR EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. AND WE ALSO HAVE TO GIVE AWAY 30% OF OUR TIPS TO OTHER WORKERS IN THE RESTAURANT. IF YOU CAN'T TIP 15% THEN JUST STAY HOME BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO SEE YOUR CHEAP, SELFISH, SCUMBAG FACE IN MY RESTAURANT. Pros: cool people work there Cons: the clientele are cheap ass scumbags more

Great drinks! 4/9/2010

I tried Trudy's for the first time last week for happy hour drinks and appetizers. I was impressed by the quality of their drinks and their food was delicious, I'll definitely be going back. Pros: Tasty drinks more

Enjoyed our lunch here 2/7/2010

My regional manager for All-Tex Exteriors and I went here and had a great lunch and business meeting. The food and service were both great and timing was perfect for a lunch time business meeting. Robert Green All-Tex Exteriors. Pros: Great selection, very tastey more

Good Drinks. Okay Food 11/12/2009

For drinks, Trudy's is it, especially the mexican martini. For food, it is okay. Austin has way too many really good texmex resturants to be eating at Trudy's. Pros: Top Shelf Tuesday Cons: There are better TexMex places in Austin more

Great breakfast and happy hour! 2/24/2009

I find myself at Trudy's at least twice a week. Sometimes I crawl in there in the morning for a quick plate of much-needed breakfast tacos. Sometimes I stroll up in the afternoon after work for happy hour. Either way, I rarely leave disappointed. The food is pretty standard Tex-Mex, the kitchen is cool about vegetarian/vegan options and both their red and green complimentary salsas are excellent. Drink prices are great and, if you can make it there before 5pm, you should have no trouble snagging a table on the patio. I've had one really bad service experience but I chalked that up to one particular server paying too much attention to a table of off-the-clock employees and not enough attention to our table. Trudy's is not changing the way we think about food, but it is keeping us full and filling up our glass whenever we ask. more

Best Guacamole, I've EVER had in a resturant 7/28/2008

Trudy's is great. A fun casual place, w/cold beer, good margaritas, and HOT salsa. Parking is difficult when crowded, however seating was prompt.\r Breakfast is great here too. Pros: Guacamole, HOT salsa Cons: parking more

Margarita deals on Mondays 6/18/2008

\r $3.50 margarita's on mondays.... mexican food is ok, service really great.. my friend took her baby, and they easily made room for him Pros: ambience, easy parking Cons: get packed on the weekends more

Worst Margaritas in Austin 5/1/2008

I heard so much about this place and finally tried it last week. I was so dissappointed. The margaritas were watered down and not strong at all. That's a Tex-Mex staple! You've got to get that part right! My enchiladas were forgettable. What's up with the corn all over everything? Our service was ok, very Austin.\r Don't think I'll ever go back unless a big group is headed there. Pros: Longevity in Austin Cons: Maybe the worst margarita I've ever had. more

Best Margaritas! 4/28/2008

i have been going to trudys since I moved to Austin in 99. They have the best Marguaritas anywhere! They also have amazing veggie burgers and great green chile chicken tacos. If you have not been here you have to go! Pros: margaritas, chicken tacos, veggie burgers Cons: a little loud more

You must have the stuffed avocado! 2/20/2008

I really haven't had much off the Trudy's menu because I ALWAYS order the stuffed avocado! I crave this if I go too long without having it! It's excellent! There is always a wait here but that is to be expected. Great drinks, they have a full bar. The patio is great in the summer. more

local and delicious! 2/1/2008

You must try the stuffed avocado with suiza sauce. It's delicious and I've never had anything even close to it anywhere. The beans and rice sides are average. The prices are reasonable. You and a friend can go and get stuffed on their delicious food and get a nice buzz for under $30. The waitstaff is nice, but sometimes there is a wait, the seating area gets cramped, and it does get loud at peak times. The drinks are pretty good, but not good enough for me to visit them only for the bar. Go to Trudy's! It's fun, it's local, it's yummy! Pros: good food at a reasonable price Cons: noisy and can get busy more

daycare center 12/12/2007

I like Austin, but the children running around screaming about what Britney did and their reality tv shows make this place seem like a high school. The food is decent, nothing to rave about and surely would never be this popular in Houston or Dallas. Margaritas aren't very good, and service is.... well very Austin. The hostess was friendly and the restaurant tries, just doesn't accomplish anything more than a hangout for little kids. Pros: hostess Cons: food, crowd, margaritas, location more

My Favorite Margarita in the World!! 11/10/2007

Is the frozen Mango!!! Or the Strawberry-Mango!! Soo insanely awsome! Trudy's is a little hard to find at first, it's tucked back off of Guadalupe Street, near the Spiderhouse...and It's always hard to find parking. Older college crowd mostly, really popular-- Even when the weather's bad Trudy's is usually packed. Can't say much about the general menu b/c as I said before---I just go for the Mango Margarita!! It's to die for! Pros: Different flavored 'rita's Cons: not enough parking more

good place for drinks, fun 6/30/2007

A joint right north of campus. A real tradition - this location is the original. Mexican Martini's are the best in town. Other drinks are fine. Good place to have a good time with friends. Usually always crowded - but also always fun. Food is ok, really nothing special - just more typical Austin Tex-Mex stuff - a little above average. Go here for the drinks and fun. \r \r The north location has a cool breakfast buffet - not sure about this one. One annoying thing is their irritating drink limits, and carding you *every* time you get a drink, please - I assume they have had some liability problems. Thank you lawyers, parents, and nothing better-to-do Austin police force. Pros: drinks, college scene, breakfast buffet Cons: drink limits more
