Avoid the upstairs lounge. It takes forever to get a drink, the bar wont serve you if youre at a table even if your waiters MIA, they let each staffer collect whatever ad hoc way ...

Trudy's North Star is a hit! 11/11/2005

A few years ago I lived within walking distance of this establishment and I ate there with great frequency. As a matter of fact, whenever my budget didn't limit me to Tacasita for Fajitas; Trudy's was my first choice for Tex-Mex enjoyment. The Mexican Martini (served by the chilled shaker with a chilled, salted-rimmed Martini glass and olives) is the best top-shelf Margharita I have ever had. Sauza Commemritivo Tequila, Grand Marnier, Cointreau, Rose's Lime Juice and a splash of Orange Juice! Never a sour gut because it contains no bar mix. The black beans, enchiladas and rice are also big winners in my book. Loads of fun for happy hour, too. Pros: great food, great service, best margarhita Cons: sometimes a wait, on a busy street more

Re: Large Groups 11/21/2003

I was with a large group 25 or so.. on a Friday nite. The staff seemed unconcerned about getting us a table or two... and we stood around over two hours waiting. Not recommended for a large party! Pros: Food is great... Cons: Parking is horrible!, Seating is bad! more

The Mexican Martinis ROCK 8/15/2003

My title says it; the martinis ROCK. The house tini is a good bargain, but pay the little extra for a good tequila; it's a steal! And I have always been very happy with their weekly menu specials!!! It's nice that are so many different ambiances to seek out depending on your mood (Family style inside, Smoker's Den down & upstairs Singles Lounge, Outdoor Spacious) Very Smoker friendly, which I like. Unfortunately, their Brunch has gone downhill recently. Oh yeah, the servers are always very friendly and give good service, if a little slow at times....I think they have to run really far for everything, so it's not personal -- I still tip 'em well cuz they work so hard! A regular patron..... Pros: Mexican Martinis, Music Selection/varie, Menu Specials Cons: Music Volume more

Stay outta the bar! 2/21/2003

Avoid the upstairs lounge. It takes forever to get a drink, the bar wont serve you if youre at a table even if your waiters MIA, they let each staffer collect whatever ad hoc way he wants, and the staff seems genuinely unhappy. Our waiter cut-off 2 girls in my group he shouldnt have. Just plain blew the call. The manager wouldnt countermand him so the 14 of us left. Were hard working successful types and wont stand for a hippie 10 years our junior mothering us on our evening off. Other lounges have better service. Theres no reason to go to Trudys North. Pros: Atmosphere, Location Cons: Service, Staff quality, Parking more

oh la la mexican martinis 1/17/2003

The food is excellent... tex-mex style with perfect blends of seasoning. Bar-b-que chicken tacos are a must for the first timer. Atmosphere is cool but crowded during prime time hours. Enjoy a cocktail while waiting for your table. The mexican martinis are impeccable! You can only get two, but two is all you need. Served in a martini shaker with a martini glass and olives this twist on the margarita is a great compliment to the tasty comida. Pros: margaritas, queso, tacos Cons: crowded more

Mexican Martinis 1/11/2003

Try the Mexican Martini and you won't be sorry. Get there early so you can find a seat. The place is pretty well packed between 5 and 9pm so plan on waiting if you're going to ask for a table downstairs. Go upstairs if you're single. Pros: Good food, Good drinks, Relaxed atmosphere Cons: Crowded, A bit noisy at times more

Trudy's, where everybody knows your name 12/7/2002

Upstairs has all you need. Great snacks, Great drinks, GREAT service. Pros: Service, Atmosphere Cons: PARKING!!!! more

love the couches 12/6/2002

I always meet someone I know at Trudy's northstar. Love the cozy couches in the bar. They need more. Great food Pros: croweded, good drinks, good food Cons: crowded, can sit outside late, need more couches bar more

Quite the Experience 12/5/2002

Trudy's is a trendy mexican restaurant located on Burnet near 183. The salsa there is quite good and the menu offers a variety of pretty good tex-mex and american dishes. The bar is very accomodating and the the staff there has always been friendly though the manager helped out once or twice and he was kind of stiff. Good place to go with a group of friends as it is very loud and noisy inside. I never waited more than 20 minutes for a table even at peak hours. Pros: parking, not too expensive, prompt seating more

the best pick up place 11/22/2002

great to meet people.friendly staff.worth the wait. great prices. i am there four times a week at least!! Pros: great bartenders more

pretty scenery 11/18/2002

the mexican martinis are great the staff is friendly the patrons are shallow Pros: mex mart, smokers lounge, service Cons: location, patrons more

Awesome Atmosphere 8/26/2002

Its a place to wind down and at the same time gives you a rush with all the people and drinks! Mexican Martinis are great.....but the limit is two! Appetizers are very good...love the nachos! Pros: food:inexpensive Cons: crowded parking lot more

Martini, yes, Mexican 8/13/2002

If you like good food, good drinks, and seeing pretty 20 somethings, this is the spot. I recommend a mexican martini or a Bass along with their fat burritos. I go for chicken with spicy green sauce but I like the hots, so good luck. The wait always sounds worse than it is; besides, they have a bar lounge that will make you forget you are waiting too long. Plus you can get out of here with money left to hit up the DT bars. Pros: food, bar wait, UT girls close by Cons: sometimes too crowded more

Still???? 8/9/2002

Old news.....same place, same food (as every other Tex-Mex place in town) same margarita's/martini's. Pros: reasonbler, easy parking Cons: yet another tex-mex more

Great Price & Great Food 7/23/2002

Has a great Sunday Breakfast Buffet. Great Price & Great tasting food. Pros: Good tasting food, Good value Cons: Horrible Parking, Crowded, Long wait more

Simply the best! 7/17/2002

When my wife and I moved to Austin from Atlanta in May 2001, we quickly discovered are favorite thing about Austin - Trudy's! We had heard about the great Tex-Mex in Austin and we tried a number of restaurants, but no one comes close to Trudy's for quality, service and value. Not only do they have the best Tex-Mex in town, but the service is superb and the staff always friendly. We love Trudy's so much, it soon became our regular Friday night date spot! Week after week, Trudy's consistently offers great food and service and an incredible price. Simply the best! Pros: Great food, Great service, Great value Cons: Long waits, Poor parking more

third place 5/19/2002

Out of the three Trudy's locations, this one is my least favorite. With that said, I love Trudy's and wouldn't avoid going here. I feel like the crowd at the North Star location is a little more professional (Dallas-ish) than the flip flops and cut offs of Trudy's Central. Love the ritas and this location's bar is a little cramped. more
