Stay Away 7/30/2009

During Seattle's busy tourist season, this place provided a bad product with poor service. We had dinner for 5 adults and 2 children(toddlers) on a hot summer thursday evening and we were very very disapointed by this place. Initially when we walked in we stood at the entrance for about 5 mins before being offered service. Looking around it was as though just the waiters and hosts had abandoned the place- there were people eating, but no waitstaff. To make it more comical there was a large table in directly in front of the door with about 10 place settings and all the dirty dishes, leftover food, and napkins flapping in the wind from a family had left long along. We choose Mitchelli's because it was advertised as family-friendly and had a good location right in Pioneer square. Fortunately for us the absence of the waitstaff allowed my brother-in-law to sneak in Mcdonalds, something that may have raised objection in other places. When we did finally get the food, a variety of pasta dishes, it was bland at best. Much of it was under-seasoned and without flavor. The Pizza Margherita, a staple of italian cuisine, was more like cheesy bread. Needless to say, we did not stick around for dessert. When the check came their receipt printer was not working, which complicated the use of a credit card. To be fair, they warned us about this glitch before seating us. By the way, when we left about 90 mins laters, that big table in the front of the restaurant still had not been cleared. The napkins were still flapping in the breeze. In summary, I would say that although it's possible we visited on one of their "off nights" when the register printer wasn't working and they were short on wait-staff, but from what I could see, they didn't seem to motivated to take corrective action. We left a bad tip, but perfectly deserved tip and will not go back. Pros: Great location and layout Cons: Near-absent service & underperforming food more

Real FRESH!!!!!. Both the great quality food and the quality people. As the former director of Pacific Northwest Operations for a national program at Lockheed Martin, I used to wine and dine VIP clients hear. One time I took out some clients for dinner and due to my illness (lazy eye and jaundice) I have trouble seeing and missed a step. Well, I tripped and fell to the floor. While the client stood there and laughed, the employee was nice enough to help me up and give me a free dessert (you guessed, a tiramisu). It's customer service like that, that has made me a regular for years. Not long after, I was fired for incompetence by Lockheed Martin and my wife left me. The staff was nice enough to occupy my time by teaching me how to make some of their delicious recipes!! Now as a customer service representative for Hertz it's one of my duties to maps in the cars for tourists. I'm always sure to circle Mitchelli's on the map and point them to the lasagna of dreams! Pros: food: portions, quality, atmosphere, the tiramisu, FRESHNESS more

I've eaten at Mitchelli's for many years (remember when they had the large back room?) and over those years things kept slipping; sure they were small things here and there, but still slipping. After my experience yesterday, I can categorically confirm that Mitchell's has more things going against it than for it. First, we were a group of 6 total but 2 of the group were going to be late. Those of us on time were served water and offered another beverage, but that was the end of our waiter until the 5th member arrived about 1/2 hour later. No bread, no offer to get our order started, nothing. I ordered the salmon ceasar salad, which I have ordered there numerous times over the years. The waiter asked me a weird question - have you had the salmon ceasar before. I told him yes. He said that the salmon was smoked, more like lox, and not grilled. I asked him if it had changed from the way they used to prepare it and he said no, so I said to go ahead. Clearly I should have used a time reference. I've been eating there for 8 years. He's probably worked there for 6 months. The salad came and he was right - it was lox, not the salmon that most of us would think of on a ceasar. After a search I found 2 croutons. I thought for sure there was no dressing but at the bottom in a little pile, I found all the bottled dressing glommed onto a handful of lettuce. This was clearly a do-it-yourself ceasar. The salad was edible, but it wasn't anywhere near good. The service never improved (he never came back and we had to flag him down for our check) and one waiter actually tripped over the chair leg of one of our guests, almost knocking her to the floor, but never said a word of apology. If this hadn't been a work function meal, I wouldn't have given Mitchelli's this last chance, and I'm sorry that I had to witness the thorough disintegration of both service and food. None of the other members of my group had anything positive to say about the experience. Pros: Close to my office Cons: Everything else more

First of all, the 'insider tip' stating that you get two free kid's meals with one adult entree is incorrect. The atmosphere was decent, but the food was just so-so. I had the cheese raviolo with marinara. The marinara was REALLY spicy, and I can handle some heat, but I wasn't expecting (or wanting) that. The ravioli was undercooked. The caesar salad they charged me $4.50 for was tiny, and the dressing wasn't even mixed in to the salad. The crutons were stale. I won't be going back here. The waitress was nice though, and very accommodating to our party. Very good service! Thanks much! Pros: close to ferry Cons: substandard food more

The food at Mitchelli's is.... how should i put it , remember on "When Harry met Sally"....the famous resturaunt scene. It is absolutely my favorite place to wine and dine in Seattle. Nice scenery and the staff are quite friendly and courteous. You gotta try the butternut squash raviolli, it's only available on the winter menu...it is to die for! Pros: Fabulous food Cons: Parking more

They should raise their prices! 10/24/2007

For moderately priced fare, Mitchelli's produces one hell of a payoff. With the true feel of an itallian bistro, this little place produced the best Pizza I've ever had. An excellent wine selection, fantastic service and a full bar topped off the meal - I would recommend this joint to anyone. Pros: Food, Service, Environment Cons: Downtown more

Horrible service (so slow!) and food 9/25/2007

I arrived before my friends so decided to get a drink at the bar while I waited for them. I sat at the bar for 5 minutes and not one of the bartenders ever came over to me to get a drink. There was only one other customer at the bar and the bartenders were just chit chatting with each other. I left and waited outside for my friends. When they got there, we were seated. There was only about 2 or 3 other tables being waited on. It took our server 45 minutes to come to our table to take our order! Our food took just as long, he forgot a salad, and the food was so bland! At one point, I had to go get the water pitcher myself and fill up our glasses because he never checked on our table. Horrible experience, I would never go back. more

took more than 45 minutes to get our food - and then they brought the wrong food. 7/1/2007

We ate here on a Sunday night when the restaurant was nowhere near full. Our waiter was not polite, and came out 35 minutes after we'd ordered to say he'd forgotten our orders! We had to be somewhere in 15 minutes when our food finally came out. Even after taking my order twice he still brought me the wrong thing (it wasn't complicated, either- just a half pizza and salad, an item straight from the menu). Since we had to eat quickly, I didn't send the food back. Our table had no silverware, and when my boyfriend asked for some, the waiter ignored him. We had to get it from the bar ourselves. Our waiter did charge us just 50% for our entrees for the delay, but he acted really annoyed and unhappy. He also never apologized for the delay. We really tried to be polite - I gave him a tip that would have been generous had he billed us full price for the meal, but I will never eat here again. Pros: location Cons: service more

I thought I was back in Italy 11/20/2006

This restaurant was called a greasy spoon from the person who recommended it to us. How wrong they were. Having lived and eaten in Italy for over 6 years I've visited countless family run Ristoranti, Pizzerias and Trattorie. This was exactly the authentic Italian that I've been missing. Mitchelli's has that warm Italian feeling that welcomes you to put your elbows on the table, sip some "vino da tavola rosso", eat and share your days events with family and friends. The food was superb and plentiful and with keeping with the Italian way was prepared using fresh local ingredients. Something to keep in mind is with most of the dishes they offer a regular (large) and a light (small) so if you are watching your wallet / purse or waist order the regular and ask for an additional plate. Service was swift and given with a slowly decreasing Italian accent. Truly an enjoyable experience. Pros: Authentic Italian Cons: No Cozze Zuppa more

Moderately priced Italian dining 9/8/2006

Over the years, I have hosted two large birthday parties for my wife & her sister (they were born on the day 4 years apart). My family eats there 6 or more times a year. The lasagna is to die for. The desserts are great. The service warm & friendly and efficient. Open long hours from breakfast to midnight dining. Sometimes, it is possible to share an entree since the portions are large. Limited menu on game days but still a lot of options to choose from. Pros: Good food, good service, great prices Cons: street parking is limited, lot parking can be expensive more

Even better than I remembered - YUM! 5/3/2006

The prices are average but the food is fantastic! I had the Tortellini Fiorentina and it was fabulous. The leftovers were even good for breakfast the next day. I had this on a business trip and had to go back again to see if it was as good as I remembered. Unlike many things in life - it was even better. The Caramel Cake was good, but the Cannoli con Mandorle e Cioccolato was to die for! This is a must go if you like Italian food! Pros: Food, Friendly Service, Friendly Atmosphere Cons: Tight Parking more

THE best italian food by far! 1/14/2006

I love this place! My best friend and I stumbled across it one day, and now we are both hooked! I'm taking my husband and parents to dinner next month. I can't wait! And the desserts are to die for! Go try for yoursellf!!!!! Pros: great food, nice ambiance more

Great Place - Even Late 10/19/2004

My husband and I went here for the first time on our wedding night. It was 1AM and we were starving, so we set out from the Alexis to find something to eat. The food was amazing and the service was great! Despite the fact that we went to Mitchelli's because it was the only place open, we would definitely return anytime for some great, authentic, Italian. Pros: Food, Reasonably Priced, Open Late more

I love Trattoria's 6/10/2004

I've been going to Trattoria's for over 20 years - when I met my husband 8 years ago it turns out that Trattoria's was his favorite restaurant as well. The food and service is always wonderful, and I love the atmosphere. Pros: food is great, value more

non così buon 3/9/2004

Although my husband enjoyed his meal (ziti with bolognese) I felt my selection (eggplant parmigiana) was just okay. The garlic pasta side dish was very bland. I'd be hesitant to give it another shot with all the choices out there. Nice atmosphere though. Pros: atmosphere, local joint Cons: , average service more

Mama Mia!! 11/18/2002

This is absolutely the BEST restaurant I've ever known! Everyone who goes to Seattle should try it. The lasagna and minestrone are the best in the world!! Pros: Great food, Excellent wait staff Cons: Out of the way more

Real Italian Style Pizza 7/29/2002

Wake up Seattle. Quit eating that cardboard, processed cheese, vienna sausage out of a can tasting pizzas around town. Pagliacci - if you're desparate; Papa Murphy's - Any warm bread is good . . . but for real Italian fresh & tasty, the pizza bar at Trattoria Matchelli is it! Fresh tossed dough, toppings done with style, full not overdone flavors. Only pizza in town my friends from Firenze could eat. They really laughed at Bucca de Beppo place (for food quality). Va bene? Pros: Great Pizza, Other dishes OK only more

Late Nite Spot 7/2/2002

I've enjoyed many dinners here. Trattoria Mitchelli is located right across the street from the Pioneer Square Hotel and stays open late which is convenient for the business traveler. They serve excellent lasanga and the bread is always freshly baked. I've always eaten at the bar and the service is ok. more
