Best

I've been here a couple of times. It's great because it's not too fancy and not entirely casual. The service sometimes leaves something to be desired but every time we've ordered ...

Worst

This is one of those places that looks great from the outside, but is disappointing on the inside. The food is only so-so - fairly bland sauces, overcooked pastas and over-tender...

Fun Place to People Watch 5/31/2010

Had lunch here on Memorial Weekend. My stripped bass was pretty good. My husband thought his butternut squash tortellini didn't have that much flavor. The prices are high. My fish was $28. That's more a dinner price than a lunch price. You can sit and watch people walk by and listen to the street musicians. Pros: 3rd St Promenade Convenient Cons: Pricey, difficult parking more

Terrible!! 4/4/2008

I'm not sure you could even use the calamari as bait it was so bad. Took one bite and couldn't eat any more. Then the entrees came and it went from bad to worse. My wife and I each took one bite and we sent all of the food back and promptly paid for the wine and left. Words cannot express how bad the food is at this restaurant. Avoid at all cost!!!! more

My advice: skip it. 1/15/2008

I've never before written a review for a restaurant, and probably should have for many of the great places I've been (I'll have to play a good deal of catch-up!). Though that past good service did not prompt me to comment, the poor experience afforded by Trastevere does now. The food was blah, no better than your local Olive Garden. The service was so-so, but not exceptional. The real kicker is that they double-double charged my card (correct amount once the night of dining, then twice the correct amount 3 days later). I don't want to pay their normal rate for what they dish up, let alone three times that! Save yourself the hassle- hang out on the Promenade (love it), but go to Cafe Crepe and skip the more expensive joints that sell location, but don't manage to sell a quality dining experience. Pros: Promenade locale, saw Mrs. Brady of the Brady Bunch Cons: poor food, double charged me, mediocre service more

very bad service 6/10/2007

The food might live up to the price and the location. But the service was really terrible and for that, I am sure that I won't go back there. On a sunny Sunday, I went to the restanrant with my friends for luch and after finishing eating all the food we had ordered, I asked for the check. At that time, we were in a hurry because we had a plan to do. So I asked our waitress to hurry a little bit in a polite manner. But to my surprise, she got angry at me and began to blame me for what I had said. I did not understand why she did it to her custmer. It was the worst experience I have ever had at any restaurant. Pros: location Cons: service more

Bad customer service 1/4/2007

My family and I went to this restaurant thinking we could have a nice Christmas Eve meal. Boy were we wrong! First of all, there was no record of the reservation we had made. After placing our orders, we enjoyed a fried calamari appetizer (decent but not the best I have had), and waited for our main courses. After about 20 minutes of waiting, imagine our surprise when our plates were cleared and silverware taken away. We were all thinking this was a pretty nice place to be giving us completely new place settings. But instead, the server came by asking if we wanted dessert! Hello?! We didn't even receive our main dishes yet! What kind of waiter doesn't even remember if his guests' meals have not arrived yet? Pros: Good location, decent food. Cons: Terrible customer service, and the staff could care less about you. more

AWFUL! 9/29/2006

If you're expecting the same quality of food or the same service as the Hollywood Blvd. location, you can forget it. The wait was ridiculously long. Then you finally get in and the wait staff was rude and hard to get a hold of for drinks or ever just to take an order. Then there was the food. It was AWFUL! I expected the food to be somewhat like the other locations but it was not. The food was cold, tasted terrible and when I asked why they told us that we didn't have to come back. They further explained that they were NOT owned by the same people who owned the Hollywood Blvd. location. Trust me and stay away from this place. I've never even bothered to write a review of a restaurant before but I just had to try to steer people away from horrible place. Pros: Nice if you like the noise of the Promenade, which I do. Cons: The service and the food more

Really below average 9/19/2006

I would be kindda OK with bad food, but they overcharged my card, probably adding tips to themselves, I had to call my credit card company to sort it out, thank God I did not throw away my signed receipt!!! never again, cheating on customers is always unacceptable, avoid. Pros: Looks great when you walk by Cons: bad food, bad service, card got overcharged more

Pretty decent 1/21/2006

I've been here a couple of times. It's great because it's not too fancy and not entirely casual. The service sometimes leaves something to be desired but every time we've ordered food, we get it much faster than we'd expect. Sometimes the penne is a bit undercooked. We were shocked to have our party of 3 seated immediately at 8pm last night (Saturday). Pros: decent food, fun location Cons: service (sometimes) more

Best Place to Eat on the Promenade 4/24/2005

We've gone here several times when shopping at the Promenade. The food is good--I've had their fish, pastas and pizzas before and wouldn't complain about anything I've had. The service is always prompt. Weather permitting it is the best patio spot to eat at when you are in the area. Pros: nice patio, good food, good service more

Tourist food 9/18/2003

I may have had the same exact meal on the piazza in Florence: microwaved, tourist fare in a Italian-looking building. Will make your first date your last, if she has any sense of food. more

People watching better than food 6/16/2003

One of the best places to appreciate the ocean front culture of Los Angeles, Trastevere's outdoor seating area boasts a a great area for people watching. Food is not bad, nor is it incredible. For a simple first date that is elegant classy yet won't break the bank, it's location on Third Street Promenade serves the purpose. more

Good pizza 6/19/2002

Interesting location, attentive staff, pretty good food (to be honest I think the pizza's the best thing on the menu -- try the four cheese!). The atmosphere inside is quiet enough to have a conversation, outside you'll probably just want to watch the people on the promenade go by. The prices are definitely inflated due to its promenade location, but if you're willing to splurge this is a good place to go. more
