Best

Best donuts ever. :) Love the maple bars and cake donuts the best. The atmosphere is great too. Wish I still lived downtown so I could hang out the...

Worst

Their coffee sucks, big time, has for years. I don't actually recall when I've had a poorer cup of coffee from a local place. I mean, they may have (somewhat) decent donuts, but...

A Seattle classic 8/15/2005

If you are visiting Seattle you must experience a local treasure- Top Pot Doughnuts. There are a variety of flavors ranging from lemon to chocolate each baring a unique and clever name. The doughnuts are also available in a few select Starbucks locations- but are best consumed right out of the oven at the Top Pot cafe. more

What is the big deal? Way too greasy! 6/6/2005

I know everyone in Seattle is in love with Top Pot, but I just can't deal with their over greasiness. I've tried to like them, really, but not. I much prefer Mighty-O. And they're vegan which is nice if you are too. more

Doughnuts as works of art 6/5/2005

Have you ever experienced art so beautiful and moving that it made you want to cry? Maybe it was a movie, or a song, an opera, a painting? The Top Pot glazed old fashioned doughnut is so good I nearly cried when I first had one. It's thick, complex, not-too-sweet. There's a flavor in there that I can't quite get a handle on (I thought it might be cardamom, but I have no idea, really). They are also somehow very pure and honest. It's hard to put into words, really. If you're a big fan of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, these might not be right for you, just as if you're a big fan of N-Sync, Beethoven Symphonies might not be right for you. These aren't light and fluffy and crazy-sweet. They are thick and dense and scream out for the accompaniment of a rich coffee. And even though you can get a subset of these doughnuts at one of a few thousand Starbucks stores, you really should go to the cafe on 5th avenue. It's large, light-filled, and an overall pleasant space to inhabit. more

Homer Simpson's Heaven 11/23/2004

best doughnuts in town, period. old fashioned with chocolate frosting is like coffee's childhood amigo: they are comfortable together without having to talk. more

Retro hip offers interesting coffee-drinking alternative 6/28/2004

When you can't stand to meet at another downtown coffee shop for another dry scone, take a little amble out to Top Pot. The coffee is hot, the doughnuts come in many varieties (standard and unique) and the baristas are classic Seattle-retro-hip. Perhaps not the best doughnuts in town, but Top Pot has much more interesting clientele, baristas and ambiance than most other coffee shop offerings in the area. more
