Christoper is a genius! 3/31/2010

I want to write this review for anyone stuck not knowing where to turn for a good hair cut, and to sing this mans praises at the same time! I've never committed to one hair dresser before as I've found past experiences to be mediocre, boring or disastrous! Then Christopher came into my life! He's attuned to not only your personal style but identity. He creates haircuts to compliment you 100% putting his own unique flourishes in everything he does. He's a joy to be around and a pleasure to talk to. I'm only sorry to be moving away from New York so he will no longer be my hair dresser. Christopher - you'll always be my number one! Pros: great haircut great staff more

know what you're signing up for 6/11/2009

was invited to be their hair model it is free, so you know you shouldn't expect to get what you want, but it's worth it if you're looking to try something new Yelena was the one who cut my hair, she's really good! but once again, if you're looking for a specific haircut, pick a different place Pros: free haircut, fun people Cons: will cut your hair the way they want more

Best Hair Salon Ever! 3/21/2008

Toni & Guy on Madison is the best hair salon I have ever been to. On my first visit with James we immediately clicked. He is truly an artist and professional in every sense of the word and since he has been cutting my hair I receive compliments almost daily. My hair is not the easiest to cut and I have had some very bad experiences but none since going to James. Berry is in charge of my color and she too is an amazing artist. My hair has never looked better and I would never consider going anywhere else. I highly recommend this salon! more

Don't hate on the mullet! 1/9/2007

I've been a hair model for this Toni and Guy for over a year and I've NEVER recieved so many compliments on my hair (which is a "mullet" style, thank you very much). People have stopped me on the street, in airports - random stylist have even asked to take pictures of my hair... People love my hair. It seems that no matter what T&G does, it always looks totally hot without being impractical. Not for the Plain Janes, T&G is ultra fashion-forward and insanely good at what they do. Pros: High-fashion hair Cons: Too fashionable for some more

The staff wants you to know that YOU'RE NOT AS COOL AS THEY ARE 11/17/2006

I worked as a "hair model" for TG. These "haircutters" pretend to listen to you and what you want. In the end, these guys just give you the haircut THEY WANT to give you. All the "models" in my group ended up with some ugly mullet cut. We all looked like rejects of some 80s new-wave band, and I don't mean that in a good way! Also the staff just acts like they are much cooler than you. No thanks! If I want a bad mullet, I can do it myself at home. Pros: I survived the TG experience! Cons: Staff that does not listen to you; ugly haircuts; cooler-than-thou attitude more

couldn't be happier 6/13/2006

I just got my hair cut here and every time i look in the mirror i am happier with it. in fact i registered with citysearch just to share my joy with everyone. I went in as a model and it took AGES but it didn't cost a thing. i gave my stylist a few basic instructions but otherwise let him do what he thought would look good. i wear my hair short, and it has never been so versatile. i disagree about the staff, btw. the colorists were really sweet and all the stylists very charming to me. but i could see how they get a little attitude, they're mostly all good looking and v fashionable, that kind of attitude. i didn't find anything particularly revolutionary about the styling, but my hair has never looked so good. Pros: free modeling cut and color! Cons: took a long time more

Rude and Inexpercienced Staff 5/12/2006

I have been many times at Toni and Guy in London but the NY salon is very different. In fact, it is not really a salon but a training center for new stylists. The salon accepts a few appointments but doesn't really have sufficient staff. I went in for a single process color and blowdry and had to wait at every stage of the process. The haircolor stayed on too long because the colorist was dealing with other matters (i.e., she disappeared for 30 minutes). When I asked that my hair be rinsed, I received very rude and inappropriate remarks. After that, my hair was blowdried very roughly and not the way I had asked. Tony and Guy may be great elsewhere but certainly not in NYC. The NY salon is charging high end prices but is treating you like you are a "model" for one of their training classes. Pros: None Cons: Rude , Rude, Rude more

Great place if you want a mullet 5/8/2006

I am really not sure what others are talking about giving these salon exceptional reviews. At TIGI claim to be creative and innovative and that your hair will be cut by the very best 'creative directors'. I have never had a worse and more expensive haircut. It looks like a mullet and my hair was so thinned out by adding too many messy layers. They did the exact same thing to my friend. My hair looks horrendous and definitely not worth $175. I have been to many exclusive and trendy salons and can tell you that for the quality you will receive at TIGI, you may as well get a $20 cut at Super Cuts. Cons: Value for $, Awful haircut more

Waste of money 5/8/2006

I "cheated" on my long time hairdresser to try this place out as I had heard many great things. I was extremely disappointed with the space, the arrogance of the stylists, and the actaul haircut. I have a mullet haricut, made popular by several 80's rock stars. It looks terrible-- Although it was the most money I have ever paid for a haircut-($!75!!), it was undoubtedly the worst. more

best hair cut ever 2/16/2006

these hairdressers train hairdressers from all over the world it's so refreshing to have amazing intructor's do what they do best, create great shapes .good looking good style good expreance .after you go you won't want to go anywhere else. Pros: great work, you get your money's Cons: expsive more

overpriced hair cut 1/13/2006

I have gotten haircut that i had to grow out for over 6 months. The stylist didnt really listen to what i wanted just gave me a blunt layers that didnt really complement my features. Just another " whats in style now " haircut. Why do hairdressers almost never care for what client is asking for?? To pretentious, maybe good for models but not for us "mortals". more

Great Cut 12/11/2005

I have been going to Tigi for about six months now...and I always leave there feeling like a model. They are great and worth every penny. My only complaint is that they're only open on the weekends, which sometimes makes it hard to get an appointment. If you're looking for a great, edgy cut, this is the place to go. more

Best Haircut Possible 7/17/2004

There is no other place you could go, where the stylists are gifted enough to treat haircutting as a science. The constant training that they undergo puts them head and shoulders above any other salon. No other salon is so consistently excellent. I have been to four or five different stylists, and they are all excellent. You don't even need to tell them what you want, and they make your hair better than you envisioned. Plus, you can go in and get a free trim between cuts! THE BEST! Pros: Best, Salon, In NYC Cons: , ON, E more

Great Salon 11/30/2003

Based on great reviews, I decided to give this salon a try. And how glad I am that I did. The salon is as great as reviewers have described it to be. Great, unpretentious service - where customers are treated with care and respect. Lam was my stylist and I've never had anyone take so much care with my hair. It took him nearly an hour and a half to give me exactly the cut I wanted. Pros: Great stylists, Trendy, Respectful more

Amazing 4/2/2003

Alison is an absolute color genius. Definitely worth ALL the money. more

Great results 1/31/2003

I saw Kevin for corrective color after another salon gave me blonde hair (Im a natural brunette) so not only did he bring back my natural hair color, he also managed to add BEAUTIFUL highlights! I was very, very pleased with the way my hair turned out.. and even though it was late in the evening the staff was very friendly and very helpful. Im never going anywhere else Kevin listened carefully and gave me exactly what I wanted, and the prices were surprisingly not that bad much lower than what Id paid elsewhere for color/highlighting. Pros: helpful, attentive, precise more

Worth the money 10/28/2002

I loved this salon. Kinchin (spelling?) did exactly what I have always wanted done to my hair that other salons couldn't do. I will continue to go back. more
