Last time I was in Tollgate Liquors, they had just experienced a fusebox explosion. Lesser places would have closed up shop, but these fearless shopkeepers kept their place going on a very hot saturday morning!
Beer, wine, and spirits, are all available in this handy location across from the Harford Mall. The selection is good (e.g., when I wanted a special Tequila it was easy to spot and as were my "back up" options) and the store is clean and brightly lit (when the fusebox is working!).
They also often have samples!! This was amazing to me... Once I was offered a white sangria and they always have a couple wines open (usually a red and a white). Their prices are very reasonable and they often have specials.
Update: was in on 8-16-05 buying sangria supplies. when i told angie (shopkeeper) she ask if i had the recipe (i'd sampled this version in their shop a couple months ago). when i said no, she tried to track it down and couldn't find it. said she would call me, so i left my number. she also gave me a discount on each bottle i bought (2 wine, one white port). When i got home their was a message on my answering machine with the recipe and instructions to call if i had questions. Bravo tollgate liquors! you impress me again :)
