Love this place 8/8/2011

I have been frequenting this restuarant for many years. Yes it is an old place but the quality of food is phenomenal. It is way better than Benihana. When ordering a steak at a place with Hibachi you always need to order one under what you want because of the type of grill. So for the person who stated their steak was overcooked remember that rule. It has always worked for me. The onion soup is awesom and the house dressing is as well. I recommend it to anyone. The price is semi high but normal for this type of establishment (japanese). Many time that I have been in there I have literally ran into many Spurs players. So that should tell you that it is good. They have traveled everywhere and tasted probably some of the best food in the US and they still eat there. more

Awesome Japanese Steak House!! 11/6/2009

I went on this site before going to Tokyo Steak House tonight and I went despite a couple bad reviews (I thought the reviews were based on silly reasoning). I can safely say that Tokyo Steak House is an excellent restaurant and there is no need to go to Benihana's for the same food at double the price. The food was excellent, as was the service, and the show was spectacular! I've been to several different Japanese hibachi restaurants many times, but this was definitely the best presentation I've ever seen. Our chef (I think his name was Henry) was very original with his showmanship and did many tricks besides the cliched ones chefs perform at other restaurants. It is true that they include gratuity, as someone said before me, but I think this is a plus rather than a negative, because I always tip more than the 15% the restaurant puts on the bill. (I actually added some onto the required tip.) Also, at a hibachi steak house, where you have a chef cooking the food in front of you and you also have an extra waitress or two, it is customary to tip upwards of 20% (remember that the chef and waitresses have to split the tip). Anyhow, my point is that gratuity is not an issue. Also, they do not charge for fountain drink refills, and their house dressing has been highly reviewed by food critics. They even sell it by the jar! I feel like several people gave this restaurant an undeserved and inaccurate low rating, and I wish to correct this misconception. Overall, I am so glad to have discovered such an excellent restaurant and plan on going back often! Pros: excellent food, great show! more

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE 12/20/2008

DEFINANTLY GO TO BENIHANA'S 3/16/2008

I just took my family here in hopes of giving my 4 year old a different experience. She has never been to a teppanyaka before so I thought that sunday night would be a good time to go. We had tried to make reservations at Benihana's but even on a sunday night they were already booked so we decided to try this resteraunt. The place was empty with very few people there. I was feeling confident that this would be an unforgettable night. I was wrong in a sense that I will remember to never go there for japanese food again. The service was horrible! Our waitress was literally handing my food and drinks to me over the hot grill. If a resteruant is supposadly a 4 star wouldn't the service be a little more upscale??? The onion soup was horrible!! Well not that horrible considering the fact that there was very little taste. I guess you really cannot judge bland. The salad that was served to us with the dressing was a little on the thousand island side with alot of wasabi! Our cook showed signs of skill. But lacked the personality that I was looking for .In fact there was no personality in our cook..It seemed like he needed to be somewhere else.My daughter was more interesting to watch than he was. Portion was good however very very bland .I needed alot of soy sauce to gain any flavor. I forgot to mention the sushi. Not very fresh at all ! Judging by the temp. and tast The ambience lacked in the sense that the place looked very run down . This place can use a face lift. Please beleive me when I say that I generally do not usually critique any resteraunt so hard but, I felt that if a resteraunt is to claim to be a 4 star they should be able to deliver a 4 star experience especially if there is hardly anybody in the resteraunt. The last issue that I personlly had was the automatic gratuity. I does not matter what size party. If you chose to go here and you are planning to use a credit card Watch!! the tip line. They still print a tip line even after they have already tipped them. more

Good food, little personality of chefs. 7/24/2007

I have been to several of these type restaurants all over the country and honestly Bennihana is still the best for food and show. Tokyo Steakhouse's onion soup was really good, the service was fast, and the prices were about average for this type of eatery. I don't know if it was because they were busy or what but our chef ""Shamu"" joked around very little and was in and out of there very quickly for a table of 8 people. Also it seems like the place could be cleaned up a little bit as well. Honestly go for Bennihana's instead. Might be slightly more exspensive but it is worth it. Pros: Onion soup, fast service Cons: needs updated interior and chefs need more time with customers more

Tough Old and Unfair 5/22/2007

Meat was very tough on my 3 trial visits, I always give a place 3 chances to rule out bad chef or bad timing. The seafood not very fresh either. They also charge for refills on coke. The best thing was the onion soup. They charge extra for fried rice but it has so many onions that is all you taste. They also auto tip themselves on the bill so if you paying with a credit/debit card pay attention. Pros: onion soup is ok Cons: meat, seafood, fried rice, no refill cokes, 30 years of grease and dirt, auto tip themselves more
