Tn School-Therapeutic Massage

If you tell me that students have 12 weeks to learn: All muscles, their function, where they originate and insert, all bones, the integumentery system, the endocrine system, physiology of the human body, pathology, contraindications for massage, several modalities, case studies, ethics, AND provide 50 clinic hours, and all that with classes that have 15 people or more per one instructor, it is obvious that there is no way a quality education can be provided, no matter what kind of numbers you provide. Unfortunately, with the MBLX in place, the standard has already been lowered. How many of your students pass the NCTMB? I took the NCTMB and the MBLX and the MBLX it is a complete joke. Whoever can not pass the MBLX with ease the first time does not know enough to let loose on clients and should go back to Massage School. The problem with schools like yours is that you knowingly contribute to lower the standard for quality massage therapists and that hurts not only the massage community, but also clients who are endagered by massage therapists who have no clue what they are doing. I hope they change the law, so you don't come up with a one month home study course one day. BTW, I looked up your school because a friend told me about a girl that just graduated from that school. She had to take her test 3 times to pass and the first thing she did before getting to work was to have her nails done. Nice and long. That says it all. I went to this school and busted my rear end to get through their program. I worked hard and got the encouragement I needed to hang in there and conitnue, plus encouragement when I failed the first time the licensure board test to take it again and I passed the second time with a very good score. Granted since then my license lapsed but I did make good money on my own with massage therapy. But life has happened since then I have not been practicing since this past March 2008 because of my full time job ( with a company here in Knoxville which needed a recommendation from the school and they gave them a good recommendation ). So my basic review is that there are alot of schools out there for massage therapy but it is what you put into the classes and training what you will get out of it. I loved attending classes at TN School of Massage. And yes I plan on updating my license asap and conitnuing the practice of massage therapy in the future. more

I am the Senior Instructor for Tennessee School of Therapeutic Massage and have been for 6 years. I received a phone call today from a client that was leary about coming to the school to receive a massage because of a ""bad review"". I had no idea what was posted. So, in defense of the program that I have put my heart and soul into, here is what I have to say. I wrote the program and the certification classes, I pick out the books, I write the tests, I am THE one responsible for the education and the instruction. I wish the 2 disgruntled students that wrote the horrible reviews about me and the program had spent more time taking responsibility for their own educational experience. The only thing that has ever been taken out of the program was a portion of the curriculum that was no longer required by the National Certification Board. We do offer separate certification classes that are beyond the basic 500 hour program much like ever other massage therapy program in the United States, however, our extra classes are optional, not required as in other programs. Personal attacks against my character are always made by students that don't do well in the program. Any student that enrolls in the program is allowed to take the tests as many times as it takes to learn the information. Granted it is over-whelming, but completely attainable. Our National passing average is between 85-95% and the Tennessee state average is 55%. That should speak for itself. We massage an average of 20-50 clients most days and have since 1999. We are not unprofessional and we have the client base to prove it. I personally invite anyone to come by our school, sit in on class, talk to my students (current or the prevoius 600), or get a massage. I take full responsibility for the education, all 1000 hours of it and will proudly put my name on it anyday. Success is a direct reflection of determination and attitude. I attended The Tennessee School of Therapeutic Massage over 3 years ago and it changed my life. I felt like my education there was well worth the money and I'm proud to say that I am a graduate from there. Anyone who is disappointed with the school probably couldn't be disciplined enough to commit themselves to the hard work and dedication it take to pass the exams. They should look at themselves to blame if they didn't walk away with invaluable knowledge. more

I went to this school and hated it!!!! I love massage therapy, but this school was so unprofessional. People could have gotten arrested for what was going on in the school. The only aim of the school is to make money. They do not care what type of therapists they are putting out there, or even if you pass your tests, they just want you to take more and more classes so they can make more and more money. They even took material out of the corse so they could offer ""special"" classes such as a spa class, or medical massage class...and charge you a lot more money. They did not lower the price of the school when they took things away from the main corse, they just started telling you that you HAD to take these extra classes if you wanted to be able to market youself in this area.\r \r My best advice is to find another school...and trust me, you can find one. If you decide on this school, you will be waisting your time and money!!!! Cons: classes are too big, the staff is terrible, the instruction is lacking, and it was not worth the tuition! more

If you are interested in being a massage therapist and want a good education then do not go to this school. The teaching is sub-par, the guidance for students is not there, and you will end up wasting your time and money if you go to this school. There are many unethical and unprofessional things about the staff and the way the school is run. Massage therapy is a GREAT career to get into, and I would venture to say that EVERYONE can benefit from massage, but do not waist your time and money at this school. You come away with ""500 hours of instruction and practice"", but of that, you will only be getting about 275 due to the amount of time wasted. more
