Tila makes me feel so welcome!!!! 5/1/2012

This is a review not only for Tila's Restaurant but also a testimony for the wonderfulness of its owner, Tila. The food is terrific! Every time I go I get something different which quickly becomes my new favorite. I probably have had the Pork Medallions the most and each time they've been incredible. I would have licked the plate if I wasn't in public! So the food being outstanding is a given. But what makes Tila's truly unique is, well, Tila! Before I continue, I should tell you that I am somewhat disfigured by a disorder called neurofibromatosis. In fact, I have what is considered a severe case. Because of this disfigurement, I don't like to go out in public because I don't want anybody to feel uncomfortable around me. Luckily, a friend of mine brought me to Tila's after the Art Car Parade last year and I almost cried! When we entered the restaurant, we were immediately welcomed by Tila as if we were old friends. She guided us to a great table by the bar and fussed over us for about 5 minutes. I told her about my disorder and I could tell that she was about to cry before she left the table. Five minutes later, the waiter arrived with complimentary appetizers; ceviche, guacamole and queso with tortillas! During the meal, she came by to make sure everything was good and surprised us by picking up the check!!! I asked if I could take my picture with her and she said, ""No, let me take a picture with you!"" Then she invited all the servers that were nearby to join us in the photo. When we left she made me promise to come back as soon as I could and now we are Facebook friends. I think sometimes it just as important to rate a restaurant by how they treat you as much as how good the food is. I love Tila as much as I love her food, which is a lot! My name is Reggie Bibbs and I approve of this review. more

Carne asada to die for! 4/4/2012

I've known Tila for over 20 years and have always enjoyed the presentation of her entrees almost as much as tasting them. If you've never been to Tila's, I recommend her carne asada with creamed spinach and roasted potatoes. It is quite phenomenal. In fact, I can't even think of the appropriate adjective to describe the juiciest, most flavorful meal I have ever had. Oh, by the way, order it with the garlic sauce! Guess where I'm going after I send this comment?!! Yep! more

Great experience at Tila's 2/28/2012

I love Tila's unique spin on mexican food. Their food is always fresh & flavorful. I especially love their ceviche, gazpacho & stuffed avocado. Their margaritas are some of the best in the city...using fresh lime juice. Their warm salsa is to die for! We will be returning soon! more

Food=Good; Owner=B*tch 5/8/2011

We went today to Tila's which was a place that I have been to in the past with our good friends. The food is always good, but this was the first time I had the experience of meeting the owner for the first time. It was quite disappointing... \r \r When we first got there, I asked for a table in what was a wide open restaurant. The hostess looked at me and said, "What? You don't have a reservation?" I told her no, because we had never gotten one before and been seated in the past with no problem. She smirked and said that she did not have room for us. I walked out to tell my friends when she chased me down, sighed, and said, "I guess I can make room for you."We got a table outside where we asked for a high chair for our 2 year old son. She said she would get it. 20 minutes later, we finally asked for it again and was told they only had one high chair that was already in use and the other one was broken. I was a little upset about it, but waited patiently for the only high chair to be vaca more

Warning: Dont G!!!I wish I had read the reviews before going 1/13/2011

Will never go back. My fiance and I went on a Friday for Lunch. We had driven by a few times and thought it looked interesting. I have eaten every level of Mexican food and not only was the food not interesting, but how do you mess up Poblano stuffed with Mango... you add some kind of gritty /chewy/bland ingrediant that is unidentifiable. The creamed spinach had so much cheese (and I think it was Kraft Slices) there was no other taste. And to make it worse we really overpaid for the lack of quality. Now the Waiter, who we rarely saw, could not even work the credit card machine. We never got water refils. and then t took him 26 minutes to run the credit card and had to finally have the other waiter run it. we had no idea why he was walking outside and waiting on other customers when he had taken my fiance's card back. Seriously I think only the Valet had any skills to perform their job. more

Being a Texan, I have eaten my fair share of Mexican, Tex-Mex, Latin Inspired, whatever you want to call it type food. I found Tila's through Citysearch and went for a co-worker's birthday lunch. We work in the Galleria area, so the location was convenient. They accommodated eight (8) of us no problems about 12:15 on a Thursday. It was great not to see a (gazillion) people in a lunch spot which is what Galleria area workers are used to when they go out for lunch. The service was not bad. The food was acceptable. I do however think the value of what we got for the money was insufficient. (Paying extra for more chips is non-sense --- sure whether you see it on the bill or not you are paying for it any way, but it was the thought of an extra charge.) $159 (before tip) spread over eight (8) is not bad, but more than I expected, and more than I feel we got. Doubt I'll go back, but I did hear their margaritas are decent so I may have to give them another shot in the evening. Besides margaritas make everything better. Pros: Was not busy at lunch. Cons: Value more

a night(mare) out for dinner 5/21/2010

A group of friends and I (in total 11 people) visited Tila's yesterday (Thursday evening). It was a birthday celebration that had been arranged between the birthday girl and Tila on the phone. We had reservations and were promptly seated. Dinner was ordered and served correctly and the food was okay. It is nothing special that will have you leaving wanting more. Well, the portions were small so you may want more. My friend brought a birthday cake and her own plates that we picked up for a few bucks from the grocery store. We served the cake and ate it. Please keep in mind the waiter did see you serve the cake, sing happy birthday and everything. So, the staff of Tila's then brings out a HORRIBLE raspberry flavored cake for the birthday girl. We sat there and opened gifts...then the checks came. The bills ranged from $14-$25, which was expected. What we didn't expect was the shocking move that the restaurant manager and our waiter did next. They served the birthday girl two bills. One for her meal, the next for the birthday cake we brought. $15 DOLLARS!! This is not a joke. No where on their menu, website or during the dinner did it say anything about a fee for bringing your own cake. The manager compared us bringing the 5 dollar cake to bringing your own bottle of wine to a restaurant (mind you we are all under 20), or bringing your own food to a restaurant. First of all, we were never informed or even warned during dinner of the potential fee. I am just shocked. My friend and I began to question the manager and he was the absolute rudest man i have ever met!!!!! He treated us terribly. I believe it was because we were teenagers. I will never go back to this restaurant. They claim they base their restaurant on a family atmosphere. NO! I recommend finding a nice up scale restaurant where customer service comes first, then making money. We paid the $15, after the manager told me he would take it off. He failed to comply. Tila, the restaurant owner was not in, but she will be recieveing a phone call! I hate that my friend's birthday dinner had to end the way it did. DO NOT GO TO TILA'S! Pros: okay food, good chips and salsa Cons: terrible customer service, food portions small more

Terrible Service! 5/20/2010

I went to Tila's with a group of friends for a birthday party, and we enjoyed ourselves throughout the whole meal. However, after we finished eating our cake that we had brought ourselves, the manager came to the birthday girl with her check and told her that he was charging her $15 for bringing her own cake. Although both he and the waiter had seen us passing out plates and taking out the cake, he did not warn us earlier or give us any inkling that their restaurant policy did not allow for their customers to bring their own cake. He told us that it was our own faults for not telling them earlier that we were bringing a cake to our birthday party that we had made reservations for. Pros: Mediocre food, good valet service Cons: Rude manager/waiters, terrible customer service more

He told us that it was our own faults for not telling them earlier that we were bringing a cake to our birthday party that we had made reservations for. I understand how they had a policy to not bring our own food, but they did not mention it to us at all and they only told us at the very end after we were done eating, singing, opening presents, etc. They were extremely rude about it and, even though they said they would take the $15 off, they did not. The birthday girl tried to speak to Tila herself because she had been emailing her back and forth for the past week, but the waiter just very rudely said "no". It wasn't even the money that was the problem but the principle of the whole matter. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! Although the food was alright, the customer service here is just so terrible. I can not get over how rude the waiter and, especially the manager, were. What ever happened to "the customer is always right"? Pros: Mediocre food, good valet service Cons: Rude manager/waiters, terrible customer service more
