Best

best bar in Austin.

Worst

We popped in to catch the LSU vs N. Texas game and the USC game too last weekend. Very crowded but we showed up as the game started. Luckily we squeezed into a table in the front...

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PLACE 10/26/2009

I was recommended to this bar from a friend who says he goes there all the time for sports watch parties. To say the least my husband and I were very displeased with everything. The bartender talked to a girl for almost ten minutes, while my husband was waiting on a drink; needless to say there were only three people at the bar. Finally we got our drinks. We waited outside for almost 20 minutes before anyone came to our table-I could not believe it!!! also, what seemed to be a relaxed Friday night...the manager, and I believe a bartender(off duty) were HIGHLY INTOXICATED... why do I want to go to a bar where the staff and management team cannot hold their act together. My next call should be the TABC. Pros: NOTHING Cons: Staff, Drinking on the clock more

Overworked wait staff, good food, ok TV's and way too hot 9/15/2008

Yummy Honey Mustard & Hawaiian BBQ Burger 3/14/2008

This place has the BEST Honey Mustard ever for dipping, spreading, etc. I had some sort of Hawaiian BBQ Burger with a big pineapple slice on it, along with BBQ sauce and bacon. Yum. The serveress was quick and friendly, and the place is cool. The rest of the menu looks good too. My date had Mac and Cheese, and it was actually cheesy, versus the cheese-like liquid that is on most restauraunts Mac and Cheese. I'd recommend it. more

Great Place, Better Burger than Hut's 2/10/2008

This is an awesome bar. I heard that it used to have problems with staff and food but that was long ago. The only problem there now is one of the owners.... Stan. Is a drunk and likes to hang out there and give the staff grief and everyone that goes there knows it. But... for those who don't know or care about the Stan Chronicles, this place is awesome. Great Food, Awesome Bar and Lots of fun! ""THE"" place to watch a UT game or any other game for that matter. They have like 60 something plasma TV's but at the same time, the old two story house has the feel of an old pub, and it's a great place for friends. Even those who aren't into the sports bar scene will like it because it doesn't feel like a regular sports bar. Wait staff is great, bartenders are awesome and the Burger is the best in Austin. I think it got ranked second this past year, right behind Sullivans!!! Check it out. It's much improved from it's old self and a great place all around. And Stan... buddy... Go Home and stay home. Other owners... I would put a leash on your alcoholic pet if I was you. He is the only problem you got. Bye Bye Stan.... lol. Pros: GREAT FOOD, Great Bartenders Cons: Stan more

Great Place To Eat & Great Service 6/7/2006

Any time we get a chance to go to The Tavern we go. The food is great just like the service. The atmosphere to watch your favorite football team play or after a game with friends or family, you cant beat it. From the Host to the Bartender, it is 2 thumbs up! Now people can go and celebrate the World Cup there!!! Go USA!!! Pros: Service, Food, and a variety of entertainment Cons: come early due to parking, but there is some down the street more

Bad Service; Ripped off on Bar Tab 12/8/2005

We got terrible serivce and were way over charged on our bar tab. If you want to get ripped off, this place is for you. WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!!!! Don't bother asking to talk to a Manager either. Those people DON'T CARE. more

Horrible 9/16/2005

I have heard this place is haunted. Maybe we were waited on by the ghost. She brought our food and then disapeared never to be seen again. We had to flag down another server just to get napkins and utensils while our food got cold. The food was out of this world or not of this one. The fried fish was soggy, and runny. Speaking of sprits, she showed up just prior to end of meal to inquire if I wanted another drink to which I replied yes. Well it must have disapeared on the way from the bar to the table as it never arrived. My dining companion ordered a plain baked potato only to have it served with all the sides which he was also charged for. There are TVs everywhere and the noise level inside is unbearable. This is my first and LAST time dining at this establishment. Cons: no parking, poor service, bad food more

Our Go-to! 8/16/2005

Clean Sports Bar and Great Service 7/24/2004

Just wanted to give my favorable review to the very friendly staff at Tavern. My girlfriend and I coincidentally found ourselves in Austin on July 25, the last day of the Tour de France. After coffee at Seattle's Best, we got referred to the Tavern. With coffee in hand, we went entered the Tavern to find dozens of flat panel screens tuned to TDF. The wait staff was completely cool to us -- we didn't spend a dime, and yet we received nothing but courteousy in return. This isn't to suggest you loiter at the Tavern. To the contrary, come unwind and spend some cash. You'll enjoy it. If they were this friendly to us, imagine how well they will treat paying customers. Pros: LOTS of TVs, Indoor and Outdoor, Friendly Service more

A Bit of Heaven 6/12/2004

The Tavern has fantastic food. The chicken fried steak can satisfy two people! The wait staff is gracious and concerned about the patrons. The management makes sure everyone is satisfied. Again a great place to go if you are really hungry! Pros: Inexpensive, Great Parking, Always crowded more

Bad service spoils the evening 9/7/2003

The service at our visit to the Tavern was just horrible! Our ""server"" would not stop by for thirty minutes at a time, so we couldn't place orders. When he did take orders, he only took them from half the table and then wander off. He also only brought half of the drinks and never came back with the second half! We talked to a manager and eventually got our missing drinks, but not before the manager had given us attitude. I don't expect much, but with 18% gratuity automatically added to our bill (for we were a group of more than seven), you at least expect that you'd be able to place an order and then receive what you ordered in under 20 minutes. Cons: bad service, managment attitude more

Best place to watch the game 9/20/2002

This place is hands down the best place to catch a game. They also have great happy hour specials. If you plan on coming to watch a game when Green Bay is playing, better get there early. more
