Great food, awesome atmosphere 9/30/2010

Just had lunch for my birthday at Old Pecan Street Cafe and although I've been an Austinite for 9 years, sadly this was my first time dining here. The menu was delectable - everything looked so good I couldn't choose what to get! \r \r I got the spinach crepe and my husband got the pecan st. chicken. The food was delicious and came with a yummy salad and bread basket. We had a pecan crepe for dessert and it was so good - we didn't leave any! \r \r We sat outside and the service was great. My husband is in the military and he was in his uniform and when we got the check, there was a 50% discount! Our server said that in-uniform military always get a discount. What a treat and what a great way to celebrate a birthday! \r \r We will definitely be back here to try their breakfast and again for lunch! Highly recommended! more

Food was bland 2/15/2010

My boyfriend took me here for Valentine's Day. When we walked in it looked really nice, each table was candlelit and it looked really romantic. The server was really nice and attentive but the overall meal was mediocre. The house salad was ok, nothing special. We both got the blackened chicken alfredo--- The chicken was overly spiced and burned my throat but had no real flavor and the alfredo sauce was extremely bland. I had to cover the chicken in alfredo sauce so that I could even eat it (I have been eating spicy food my entire life). For dessert we got cheesecake and Italian cream cake both of which were great! If we ever go back it would be for desert only. Pros: Amazing cheesecak and ambiance Cons: Blackened Chicken Alfredo more

They have moved! 1/17/2010

We stumbled on the new location on Trinity Street by chance. The ambience is totally different, more bistro and less raggedy. We were there for Sunday brunch, off the menu, and had some delicious coffee and Migas (a scrambled egg concoction Mexian style that was absolutely delicious). Highly recommended. Pros: Great new ambiance Cons: May be hard to find more

Overall great! 8/3/2009

I just went for my birthday last month, and we had a group of 25...they were so attentive the entire night. Our food came out quickly and it was delicious. Everybody enjoyed their order. Paying was so easy b.c they knew we were splitting the bill from the beginning...no hassle at all. Its a great location too! Right on 6th st, in the middle of all the bars and clubs. Overall it was a great experience...definitely recommend this place. :)\r \r p.s. had the italian cream cake, and it was delicioussss Pros: great service, great menu more

a very nice surprise 7/29/2009

We ended up here by chance, the resturant we were really going to was closed for repairs, so we ventured into the old pecan street cafe. We were greated warmly by the manager and seated right away. The food was amazing, no complaints what-so-ever. I don't suggests bringing kiddos, it's not the place for toddlers. The food was reasonable priced and the service was great. We will return soon for dinner, sans the kids. Pros: great food, good service Cons: none, really more

Great Lunch Place! 3/1/2009

We had an excellent lunch there! The food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere wonderful! We are from out of town, but will eat there every chance we get to be in Austin! more

Our Texas Wedding! 1/15/2009

My husband and I stopped by the Old Pecan Street for lunch and mentioned to our server that we were getting married in Austin (we met in school but are from different states) and he suggested we try their (delicious!) cake. We fell in love with the upstairs reception space and ended up getting married there right over sixth street. The manager was more than accommodating as we had to plan the whole thing from California- she met all of our needs and showed all of our out-of-town family how amazing Austin really is... We can't wait to come back to Texas and visit! Pros: In the center of downtown, close to our hotel, just showed up and had a wonderful night Cons: Parking is first come, first serve- get vouchers! more

Terrible Catering and Cakes 11/3/2008

We found these guys at the Bridal Extravaganza. Their cakes tasted amazing and better than any other vendor so we booked them. We booked with Jessica, the events coordinator at the restaurant. She was the most unprofessional ""events coordinator"" I have ever worked with (and I work with a lot with my job.) We met with them 2 times, paid in full 3 weeks before the wedding almost $400 for a wedding cake, 2 tiers and a grooms sheet cake. We wanted a square cake and provided the manager a picture of what we wanted. Jessica said they would reproduce, no problem. The day of our wedding, they were supposed to deliver the cake early afternoon, sometime around 2, and they finally showed up at almost 7pm. The reception was scheduled for 7pm. When the cake arrived, it was 3 tiers, round and no grooms cake. A chunk of icing was falling off of one of the tiers, it leaned and looked like it was just thrown together. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE FOR ANY TYPE OF CATERING - IT WILL RUIN YOUR DAY. I have pictures of their handywork and would be glad to email to anyone if you want to see what it looked like. more

Loved the patio.... 9/6/2008

It has been years since I was last there but I am looking forward to introducing my daughter to the restaurant. The food I remember most was the quiche but what I loved about the place was the 'patio' area. I am hoping that is still there. I loved walking through the relatively small inner area and coming out onto the 'courtyard', especially on a cool Autumn afternoon. more

Devotees keeping body and soul together 3/20/2007

Old Pecan Cafe leads me there by name alone, and captivating aromatic blends of baked goods and coffee drew me in just passing by. When it's time for dining, down-to-earth comfort nestled between old world charm, and but of course palatable options for a dream come true. Their crepes a savory delight with warm banana filing, just a trace of rum with almonds, not pecans, sprinkled just so, and wouldn't a thick gooey chocolate sauce scribbled across it all really complete the divine experience? Overall, stimulating flavors and surprising appetizers (any shrimp would be proud wearing this seasoning) all with little fanfare just good eating. Pros: old world charm, huge variety of tasty dishes, not a buttoned-up affair and friendly Cons: perhaps a bit older decor and a little less 70's more

Great Restaurant! 7/28/2006

Great food, service and atmosphere. Charming old interior - perfect place to bring visitors although I will be going there a lot myself in between visits. more

Save room for dessert 10/12/2004

Popped in the other day with friends for a quick bite. I tried the Chicken Poppicotti. Delicious. Brochettes Orleans? Mouthwatering. The only bad thing is that you will fill up on the delicious honey-wheat bread. But you must make room for the Crepes with bananas. Or...you can go to heaven with the Pecan Pie. The atmosphere is so nice and relaxed and the street life just filters by. Worthwhile. more

Very Average 11/27/2002

I was sorely disappointed with the Old Pecan Street Cafe. From the outside, it looks like a neat old place, and the building itself is. The service and the food, inside however, were quite a different story. Our waiter was slow, and when we asked him if a ceasar salad was available at dinner (instead of the house salad) he checked in the kitchen, then told us that would be fine. After a what seemed like a long time, he delivered the standard house salad, claiming not to know whether or not it was what we had ordered at all! The entrees were okay, although the steaks were severely undercooked (medium was more like raw). The desserts (I had the ""fat chocolate cake"") was really good, complete with freshly-whipped cream. Overall, I'd say don't bother with this place until they get either a new chef, new management, or (hopefully) both. Pros: good building, good atmosphere Cons: poor service, mediocre food more

Heck-of-a-Brunch too! 11/13/2002

The food has always been delicious and uniquely prepared! An ideal place to bring friends or family visiting Austin to start on your 6th street night on the town. Recently went to the Sunday brunch with cabaret singer and group seating. Lots of fun! Pros: Location, Great menu Cons: downtown parking more
