The George Gustav Heye Center of the National Museum of the American Indian is a nice museum that is just amazingly done. So ornate, so much put into it - the musem is truly a wonderful honor to the American Indian that is worth the visit. For those with a budget, the fact that admission is free is excellent as it allows anyone to enjoy this wonderful museum more

This land is their land 8/20/2005

Admission is free to all at this New York City wing of the National Museum of the American Indian and yet this grand facility is never crowded. Housed downtown at the U.S. Custom House at the foot of Broadway it's a long way from the Museum Mile of upper Fifth Avenue but it's worth a trip. The purpose of the Heye center, and indeed the NMAI in Washington, is to allow visitors to explore the rich, varied cultures of the Native peoples of the Americas - North, South and Central - past and present . To that end, the museum produces special exhibitions, dance performances, films and musical performances and boasts a state of the art research facility. It's an extraordinary resource. more

Museum of the American Indian 8/18/2005

This museum is great, completely free, and hardly every crowded. Permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as a range of public programs—including music and dance performances, films, and symposia—explore the diversity of the Native people of the Americas and the strength and continuity of their cultures from the earliest times to the present. The building itself is worth the trip, with it's gorgeous architecture, and interesting history. Definitely worth the trip! more
