Great 5/17/2006

I go here often to check out their great selection of books AND wine (!!). It is a really nice shop and it has some great finds. Their prices are usually reasonable and they have a lot of private label books that you probably won't find at chain stores like Borders or Barnes and Nobles. The store is well organized and the people that work here are wonderful. They will help you find whatever you need and they are great sources of reading recommendations. Where else are you going to find great books and wine? more

Not just any bookstore 3/16/2006

This is how a bookstore is supposed to be. Forget putting a starbucks in there - every store should offer wine! Especially to pair with reading. I can't think of many better combinations. This is definitely a quaint, relaxing little spot. It's not huge, but has enough to keep you busy. There's notes posted all along the book shelves with recommendations and information on select books that the staff picks as the best or their favorite to provide you with a pretty long reading list. more

Great Place to Relax 3/16/2006

The Book Cellar is truly a relaxing and soothing atmosphere. I think they have a diverse and interesting selection of books and their staff is very helpful. Yes, as others have said, you can choose between coffee or wine and it is quite enjoyable to grab your beverage of choice and read at the cozy cafe. If you find yourself in Lincoln Square, the Book Cellar is a must stop. I also really like their cute stationary. more

Reading and Drinking Come Together 3/8/2006

What a great idea! You can shop for a book or two or six and then sit down with a glass of wine and enjoy your purchases. Or I suppose you could order coffee, if you really wanted to. The selection of books is decent and diverse. Yes, there is a section for wine books. However, I would advise against going if you are looking for only 1 specific thing. You may be able to order it, but there's no guarantee it will be in stock if you just show up. This place is kind of small, therefore the aisles experience crowding. You should know this in case you are claustrophobic. more

Great Indy 6/22/2005

If you're tired of dealing with Borders and the other book store chains, check out The Book Cellar. They have a great selection of bestsellers, mainstream books, and many book published by small presses that are not available in the retail chains. There is a café where you can have coffee and peruse magazines and they sell notebooks and journals if you get inspired to write yourself. Just steps from the Brown Line EL. more
