Editorial review from Citysearch 5/1/2013

The village on 6th is an okay place to live. That was the impression I developed right after moving in. The furniture is somewhat nice, and it does have a washer and dryer and a couch. There are many cons as well, for a few examples: peoples cars get broken into all the time, the apartment complex is not under surveillance, the maintenance crew can come in when ever they like, and the management is constantly looking for ways to fine people. They are very expensive!!!!! It is a lot simpler to just rent an apartment with a friend and split rent and utilities! You would come out a lot cheaper! All the people in the office SEEM nice, but do not let them fool you! It is their job to try and get your money and that is all they are worried about. They will allow you car to be towed without properly notifying residents! The people over the village are lazy and not very informational when you sign a lease. All in all the whole staff is not very helpful, though they appear to be! more

WORST PLACE EVER 1/10/2011

I moved in here thinking that my apt was going to look at least similar to the model and the pictures they showed us. However, I was in for a big surprise. Management says you cant move in early because they need all summer to clean. WHAT DID THEY CLEAN? Upon entering the first thing we noticed was how dirty the carpet was. You couldnt even walk on it without your feet becoming completely BLACK from all the dirt (which would not vacuum away) The walls were streaked and there were white stains all over the couches. The cabinets were falling off the hinges, the refrigerator door was broken, there were ash marks all over the carpet, and the bathrooms looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years. We immediately complained to the management about how dirty the carpet was and how everything in the kitchen was falling apart. They came a few days later ( they didnt even bother to knock or let us know they were coming). They looked at our cabinets and said they would put in a work order to order us new ones. its been 4 months and we still have our old cabinets and have heard nothing since then about even getting new ones. They gave us new couches and finally agreed to painting the wall after complaining and bitching at us for not doing it right the first time. Recently, we had an emergency in the middle of the night where our fire alarms would not stop going off. Our roommate was home for the weekend and her door was locked so her alarm could not be disabled. We called the emergency number so they could send someone with a key to fix it. Well, they told us Bob (the head maintenance man who was suppposed to be on emergency call) was 2 HOURS AWAY. He was given our number and called us to tell us he would be there in 2 hours. Bob never showed up. They dont have time to fix anything but somehow they find enough time to bust in the apt at random times making up excuses like ""they need to check the air vents"". YOU COULD AT LEAST CALL OR KNOCK BEFORE ENTERING! These apartments are a lot nicer than a lot of college apartments but the staff here is just downright rude and disrespectful. I'm moving out once my lease is up and I am never coming back. more

DO NOT LIVE HERE 4/5/2010

I moved here 3 years ago upon a suggestion from my friend because this was the only apt complex she knew of in Huntington. I have since begun my nightmare, otherwise known as my living experience at the village. I started out living with someone I didn't even know who left the apt only to leave me with a high school student for a roommate who had drug dealers and convicts in and out of the apt at all hours of the night, leading up to having an anonymous psycho kicking the door in while I was asleep. I had to practically beg the management to move me into a different apt because of obvious safety reasons and was put into what I can only describe as a dog kennel, where a girl was letting her tiny dog use the bathroom all over the place, even though there are no animals allowed in these apts and the management even went as far as to inform me of this before I moved in, so they were aware of the problem and did nothing about it as I lived in complete filth for months. I was then given 3 days notice to move into the apt I wished to live in 6 months prior to living with the dog girl and had to move all of my belongings with my sister for 2 days straight into an apt where the previous tenant had not even had time to move out her own belongings, and the air conditioner was broken so I had to move in an apt that was 90 degrees and sleep in the dog kennel, where I was also left to clean up my previous roommates DISGUSTING MESS, including at least 40 liquor bottles she kept as souvenirs, pounds of dog feces and the entire contents of her refrigerator even though NONE of this mess was mine. Upon settling into my new apt, where I had lived for a year, my new roommate and I have received what I can only describe as electric overages fit for Bill Gates to pay, which is strange considering my roommate is rarely home; the explanation given to me was that overages were given to people who live on the 3rd floor??? This was then taken back and I was told I was mistaken and did not hear this statement clearly, and if this is true future 3rd floor tenants should be notified of this before they move in and it should be published in the lease, I believe this is illegal. Maint. employees come and go whenever they please, knocking and giving tenants 5 seconds to answer the door before entering, there have been several incidents where I have almost been caught naked and had to run into the bathroom, which they also try to enter. The latest development is management trying to charge my roommate and I for an apparent ""exploded fire extinguisher"" that is fully intact and I am staring at 2 sitting on my counter that have never been used, yet we are facing $100 in charges, not to mention the ridiculous attitude that management gives to every single person here, you are treated like complete dirt under their feet and talked down to like children. If you are thinking of moving here for perks such as tanning, think again. The tanning beds are old and the bulbs have hair hanging off of them and they schedule your tanning appts and then change them the next day without notifying you after you have already applied tanning lotion and showed up to tan. I am moving at the end of my lease and strongly suggest staying as far away from these apts as possible if you would like to keep your sanity and money. Cons: EVERYTHING more

I had looked at many of the apts in this area and begrudgingly accepted this one based on the following: more

rip off artists, bad maintenance, ok pool and fitness 8/12/2007

Boyfriend lived there for 2 years and other than the maintenance being poor the pool was decent and they have a little fitness area ect. I liked it there and decided to get an apt of my own. First they pushed me into signing a lease saying we only have a couple rooms left. I gave them 350 dollars and signed the lease. I waited for my room to open up and upon attempting to move in, I was then informed I had to have a guaranteer of lease. Well I am on my own and noone would sign it so I tried to tell management. They said there is no way you can move in without that signed. I continued to contact courtyard about my situation and see if they could release the apt and give me back my dd. Of course now they couldnt get rid of it bc they had tons of vacancies. They are still trying to get me to give them 6480 dollars for an apartment they wont let me live in. Needless to say they have kept my 350 dollars as well. Pros: pool, mini fitness center, looks nice Cons: bad maintenance, poor advising, poor management more
