So good! 8/1/2011

I was lucky enough to catch the 8pm show Saturday night at ComedySportz with my girlfriend and I loved it! The humor was clean and smart (which I think is much more impressive) and the neighborhood had so many great restaurant and bar options that my girlfriend and I are definitely going back soon. We were also a big fan of the drinks and drink prices, their blue team drink will knock your socks off. more

Improv 2/11/2010

It's another improv theater like Second City but not as well known or popularized. I've been there a couple of times and it's the people are still quite funny They just don't have the improv history but if you're looking for improv comedy cheaper than second city, this is the place to go. It's right by the belmont EL stop. They specialize in improv games, and there's a lot of sports themed stuff. Either way it's a cheap way to have fun on the weekend. more

Freaking funny... 9/29/2009

This place was great! I went & saw a show this past Friday night & it was hilarious. I thought that it might be sort of lame or kiddie at first, but it was great! It was still kid friendly content, while at the same time funny enough for me & my friend. His kids loved it. He loved it. His wife loved it. I loved it! Kudos to Comedysportz! Pros: Family Friendly, Full bar, Funny more

Great way to spend a weekend night or a Wednesday night or a Thursday night... 10/10/2008

Comedysportz is amazing!\r \r My girlfriend and I went to see the show on a Friday and we couldn't believe how awesome it was. Normally, improv is pretty hit-or-miss, but this place has its act together; there wasn't a single moment when I wasn't laughing. I even got the chance to get on stage with the cast (Comedysportz is very big on audience participation, as I found out).\r \r Probably the best part about the whole thing was that they kept the material clean. It's very hard to find clean entertainment that's as funny as this show; I was very pleasantly surprised! I figured the material would be extremely toned down, but the whole audience was right there with the actors every step of the way. It's not a kids show, but if I had a kid, I would definitely have taken him (or her).\r \r My girlfriend and I are looking forward to going back to see some of the late-night series shows, which are a variety of different improvised (and comedy) shows ranging from stand-up comedy to improvised movie-making (coincidentally, this is their Wednesday night lineup). They also offer an ""adult show"" on Saturdays at midnight (probably not for kids) and a college night on Thursdays.\r \r The laughs are clean, the drinks are cold (they have a fairly nice bar), and the prices are just right. Definitely a great way to spend an evening. Pros: Funny; appropriate for all ages; great show variety; audience participation; very high energy Cons: Parking's a little rough (TAKE THE ""L"" YOU CAN SEE THEM FROM THE PLATFORM); can't bring in outside beverages more

Best Improv in town, Try Free Comedy Wednesday 6/23/2008

For someone not knowing what to expect this show was amazing. Going into the show I was very skeptical because improv comedy can be either very good or VERY BAD. I actually have been to two of the comedy shows at their new venue and they both have been amazing. The better show was on Friday night when I actually saw the main-stage show, they performed games I have never seen before but also because I didn't know what to expect it was even funnier than imagined. But for a great value the Free comedy Wednesday for the price, is the best in town. But if you get a chance, you should definitely stop by and see pone of their shows Pros: nice venue, and atmosphere. and free magnets in the bathroom more

TOOOO FUNNY !!!! 5/29/2008

When I first came to the ComedySportz Theatre I wasn't sure what to expect- either really corny or extremely hilarious, especially since it was my first time going to a comedy show...Well, I can definitely say that extremely hilarious was an understatement. I brought my friends along with me and I had to constantly hound them for a tissue to wipe my tears that came from laughing so much. I remember there was one specific game they played where the blue team had to describe a phrase to one specific person on their team only using jibberish and that person had to interpret the phrase to win...The jibberish in addition to the crazy behavior tickled me so that I had to dismiss myself for a minute because I couldn't stop laughing. That was the icing on the cake. If you're looking for a show that's way TOOO FUNNY, then stop your search, the ComedySportz Theatre is what you're looking for! Trust me, you won't regret it !!! Pros: Steps from the Belmont El train stop, Nice wait staff more

Big Daddy was HILARIOUS 10/16/2007

I came in on a Wednesday night to see some amature comics perform, expecting it to be a slow night. First of all, the food was beyond excellent. I had a burger that was out of this world. Only problem was that i almost choaked on my burger when i saw this comic named Big Daddy on stage. He had me falling out of my chair. That man is going to be a huge star, and the ComedySportz Theatre seems like the perfect place to start. The atmosphere was totally comfortable, warm, and inviting, and i definately will be back. Pros: Big Daddy Cons: hard to find more

Hilarious 7/31/2007

I went to ComedySportz this weekend and had a great time. I had recently been to see the IO?s improv theater and have to say that ComedySportz was the better of two. The skits and comedy were much more organized, and the cast members have to actually be funny to get such laughs without being vulgar. ComedySportz was a riot, and had me laughing the whole time. Great show! more

Tickets are kinda pricey but its totally worth it!! more

Real Comedy! 2/22/2007

I know that you ususally have to really be in the mood to go to any comedy show, but I assure you, Comedy Sportz is different. Not only is everyone at the theatre amazing, but the actors are truely hilarious, as opposed to genericly funnny. It's different from other comedy shows because it's clean and doesnt count on vulgarity to sell seats. Last time I went, it was the day before the superbowl, so you know all of chicago was burning with excitement. To celebrate, the theatre had members of the indianapolis team come here and play. It was hysterical! I thought they were going to tell sports jokes the whole time, but they didn't. They sang, and danced, and were absolutely great! I deffinately recommend going checking this show out. There's nothing else like it! Pros: Parking, Bar more

Fantastic Clean Fun 10/24/2006

I love this show. I went with a bunch of friends, and even though it was clean, it was hilarious. Way better than some of the adult themed shows I've seen. See it. It's worth it. Pros: Good parking, nice space. more

Good Comedy!! 9/19/2006

I was so impressed! There is so much improv in Chicago, but I went to Comedysportz for the first time and I didn't stop laughing the whole time. It's one of the best times I've had seeing an improv show. I loved how the players interacted with the audiunce, in the begginning of the show they had us all clapping and I was eating some candy instead of clapping and he called me out. It was hilarious! Pros: Two Thumbs Up! more

Funny Stuff 5/30/2006

I went to see a ComedySportz show last weekend and it was hillarious. The cast had me laughing so hard that I was worried I would spit beer out my nose. Luckily it didn't happen, but I will be going back for sure. ComedySportz is great, I would suggest it to anyone. Pros: Inexpensive, Funny, Above a bar Cons: None more

Funny for all 5/7/2006

This show is hilarious. My wife and I were looking for something funny enough for us to enjoy and be entertaining for our 8 year old son. ComedySportz was perfect. The new space at Fizz Bar and Grill was very accommodating. I wouldn't have known that this was their temporary summer home unless I had read it on their website. It was a truly great evening. more

Chicago's Best Improv 4/12/2006

ComedySportz is hilarious and I have never seen improv so funny. The ensemble memebers are great and the shows are amazing. One thing thats great about them is that they have shows for kids, teens, and adults. There are shows for everyone so there's no reason not to check them out. If anyone is looking for hilarious improv ComedySportz is the way to go! Pros: Hilarious, Funny, Audience-Interaction more

DELICIOUS COMEDY! 10/24/2002

Seriously. I've seen a lot of theatre in Chicago, and a whole lot of comedy. These guys are hysterical. I've had the unfortune of seeing some other "Chicago must-sees" that personally I thought were terrible. If you want to see up and coming performers, this is the place to do it. Pros: inexpensive, fun, all-ages Cons: loud more

Excellent Show 8/4/2002

I've been to ComedySportz several times & I have found it to be hilarious & at the same time very fit for family attendance! The originality of the writing and the accompanying musical accents make for a wonderfully laugh-filled evening. THANK YOU ComedySportz for all your efforts! Pros: Comtemporary, Original, Hysterical Cons: Want more shows, Need 1/2 fee 4 kids, More snacks to buy more

the best show in town! 7/28/2002

ComedySportz is a great place to bring friends, family, or a date! I have seen several different shows there, and they are all hilarious! The BYOB policy makes it even better. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, especially in the box office. Pros: affordable, hilarious, scintillating Cons: there, are, none more

  • In Short
This theater is built for intimacy with its two- and six-person tables between the main floor and on a rising tier in the back. Blue and red lighting illuminates small, low stage with "bosses" and "visitors" lettered on opposite ends. The rowdy performers amplify the room, while a server takes orders inconspicuously. A full-service bar keeps bar patrons loose.
