I have eaten here many times and only had one meal that was not great, it was really not great, BUT they really knew how to handle it. They fell all over themselves trying to "fix it" and I did get a great meal; lobster hoagie that was fab, a huge maine lobster chopped with drawn butter on a great hoagie with truffle fries. They are consistently good. more

Editorial review from Urbanspoon 7/18/2009

I have been going to Capital Grill around the country for many years. I went to the Ft. Lauderdale location recently and found this one to be nice. The food was very tasty. I had a salmon and my dinner companion had a steak. We were both satisfied with our portions and the service. My only complaint was the ambiance. The portraits on the wall disturbed us. It felt as though these somber people were sitting with us. The gloomy feel, in such a dark room, did not make our dinner as enjoyable as I would have preffered. \r \r If you want good food, great service try it. Just be prepared to have larger than life portraits of Ft, Lauderdale's pioneers, looking down at you as you take each bite. more

loved it!! Excellent service and food. Great ambiance. Wonderful experience. more

For connoisseurs of mall food, this may be the top of the mountain; it certainly is in terms of price. \r \r Prepare to wait a while before you're seated, and then be ready to throw down $80 per person for a decent (not great) steak and a glass of mediocre wine, in an atmosphere of noisy chaos full of aging baby boomers with more money than sense.\r \r Better steaks can be had at Ruth's Chris, Morton's Steakhouse, or Jackson's on Las Olas. more

Poor service; average food 1/4/2009

I live in Michigan & dine frequently at the local Capital Grille. I've received nothing but excellent service/food. Purchased a gift certificate for my father living in south Florida for the Sunrise location. Based on our discussion following his experience, I'm embarassed that I purchased him the gift certificate. The service was substandard! The bread was hard/cold. The salads were soggy. Individual wines were ordered. Unfortunately, the glasses were less than a quarter full. The filet was good,as was the salmon. Still, far from what I would expect for a two-person, $180.00 bill. Not sure if this is due to the seasonal travelers/diners in south Florida. Sounds like the philosophy is a bit different at this Capital Grille, compared to the one in my neighborhood here in Michigan. Couldn't help but notice that I don't see a positive review of this place since 2007. I think somebody forgot that they are in the service industry. Good luck attracting repeat customers! Pros: steak Cons: service, quality more

Valet Parking service outstanding--you could even asked to have your car wash while dinning.\r The hostess gracefully greet you. I like to seat by the bar seating or at the bar if alone. The steak salad and the seafood platter appetizer is a must have. I have been at this restaurant the one in Fort Lauderdale for over 2 years and it always exceed my expectations. Fridays and Saturdays is crowded with very good looking people, nicely dressed, nice cars and lots of high energy.\r Love it! more

Biggest disapppointment, our special weekend was ruined 8/8/2008

First thing we noticed as we walk in is the lack of walking space between tables. It was a mission to get to our designated table. The people behind us had to move up so we could sit down. It was claustrophobic, noisy, no privacy, my wife and I could not speak because the conversation in the table next to us was too close to ignore. We started with their signature ''calamari'' which was served less than 60 sec. after we ordered it. The menu describes the calamari as "pan fried and sauteed in garlic butter.'' Our calamari was heavily breaded & extremely soggy. We could not eat it. We told the waiter & he said, "I'm sorry you didn't like it," and took it away. We dine out very often & know exactly what a pan-fried-sauteed-food is supposed to look & taste like. We also ordered a French Onion Soup which came just as fast. The top cheese was burned and the soup itself was lukewarm with an ok taste. For dinner my wife had the Chef's suggestion of Pork Chops. It was one big chop, but since it was breaded, she didn't realize that half was ''fat'' until she took a bite. I had a NY Strip which was very good, but plate presentation is nothing like on Capital's website. The steak was simply thrown in the plate with not even a piece of parsley for color. A side of steamed broccoli came separately & it looked like everything but, steamed broccoli. Small pieces of overcooked broccoli were mixed together in what looked like 1lb of seaweed. We had a $53 bottle of Pouilly Fuisse which we served ourselves twice. Nothing about this place made us feel special, there was absolutely no attention to detail, we felt practically invisible & our waiter was very rushed, he would only come to our table when we called him. If you want to spend big bucks on a great steak meal (our total bill was $180) and really have a memorable experience, go somewhere else. We feel so bad that we can't undo that awful experience which for us was supposed to be such a special weekend. Pros: Bread basket Cons: Food, ambience, service, tight seating, more

Top Notch 7/31/2008

Great Steakhouse. Serves lunch or dinner. Excellent restaurant. The food is top notch and the staff is great. It appears to be very busy during lunch time and looks to draw a lot of business people. Higher price but good quality food served here. more

Over the top service meets excellent, straight-forward cuisine 7/6/2007

I went to the Capital Grille with some friends for dinner, and was blown away by the attention to detail. Our server used my friend's name throughout the entire meal; I felt like we were part of some kind of ""in-crowd"". You have to try the calamari; our server suggested it as their signature appetizer, and while they have a full list of interesting cocktails, as well as a more than adequate wine list, ask for the Captain's Wine List if you're in the mood to drink something a little more off of the beaten path. The service makes you feel very special; it's no wonder the place was packed even now in the middle of summer. Someone already wrote this, but the best way to dine is to just sit back and let your server tell you what you should be eating. During the summer, the the wait for reservations and the wait to sit is not nearly as long as it is during the rest of the year, but make reservations anyhow, if anything just to be addressed by name during your experience! Pros: Excellent food and wine, extremely attentive and personalized service. Cons: During the winter, you'll need to book reservations 2-3 weeks in advance for weekends. more

great attention to detail; great service 7/2/2007

My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary there just recently. From the time we called to the moment we left, we felt like very special guests. My wife was showered with attention from rose petals in table, anniversary card, a rose for her, a special dessert for us ---it was a very wonderful experience. We do not dine out a lot to expensive restaurants but we do go out ----and we have never experience such treatment. Such attention to detail ---little details are very much appreciated in today's world. Pros: Service, attention to detail Cons: none more
