The restuarant is way to dark, over price and mens room the toilet will not flush half the time. From time to time the food is way too salty.

Good Food, Bad Service....what happened 4/2/2008

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. The food is still good but the new manager is clearly to unexperienced to run a restaurant and is RUDE. The charm of brentwood was its new york feel, always packed and played great music. that is no longer the case. we went on a weekday night and were seated right away (this is not like it used to be) The music is elevator music now its lost its cool atmosphere. The restaurant also had a B rating the last time we went, they now have an A but i cant help but wonder what was going on in the kitchen....... Pros: best buffalo chicken strips, mac and cheese Cons: the manager, $25 corkage fee more

Definitely Worth a Stop 2/12/2008

From what I can gather, the place is always busy. I went on a Monday night and the place was packed. I showed up a half hour late for my reservation and despite the crowds, the hostess was super hospitable and seated my date and I quickly. This place has a great vibe. It's a classy steakhouse with a chilled out americana vibe. I had the flat iron steak and it was the thickest, juiciest flat iron steak I've ever had. The tuna tartare and the mac n' chesses were tip top as well. Killer soundtrack in this place as well! more

Not what 'lve expected!!! 4/14/2007

Went for a casual drink with a friend, the staff or say the bartender was friendly, no one at the front door nor anyone to greet us when entering. We ordered a drink from the bartender as we chatted with for quite some time, he took our order, Good drink?so didn't mind the wait. It was later on, that got us so upset. Since the place was busy for dinner, but not the bar...so when dinner patrons left, it seemed the bar was packed. So, we accommodated a couple or this "gentlemen" that I thought was.one since my female friend moved to squeeze them in the tight corner, she accidentally knocked her drink, spilled , breaking the glass making a bit of a scene. So, the bartender came by; clean up, the "so called" gentlemen said "not to worry", "I will replace the drink" to my female friend. So, the bartender came by, brought drinks for them but not her. Stunned! So we waited...waited but nothing. Bartender came by?asking if she would like another drink. We both looked at each other in disbelief, both stunned by his actions. So, we didn't say anything, waited, waited as we chatted about this situation, I figure I would say something...since our "So called" gentlemen wasn't about too nor do anything about it...as he was engaged in conversation with this young bow. Countless times I tried to get our bartender?s attention, w/t no luck until the other bartender noticed my hand flailing in the air, finally he came by, I told him what happened?and he would replace it, but coming bck, w/t half a drink, What??? Like their losing money over this situation. I was appalled. We accommodated 2 new patrons, that we didn?t have 2 like so many in LA. I?ve been to finest restaurants & bars and THIS has happened, they have replaced it - full drink not half. So, I thought the "gentlemen" would see this, do or say something, nope, didn't seem to care still trying to woo this lady. I paid the bill, we left. Won't be bck. Too dark, and overpriced...but that's L.A. Enjoy if you wish... Pros: What!?! I can't comment Cons: Too dark, too loud, & overpriced for food. $6 for fries!!! more

The Brentwood has lost its Mojo 2/20/2007

What is going on with the Brentwood? I used to love this place! Since the departure of their great maitre'd, David, the place has gone downhill. Definitely doesn't have the warmth or organization anymore Service has become haphazard, food is spotty, at best. They still make killer martinis, but no-one there seems to understand the wine list. They never seem to cook the steaks properly. Was there recently and paid $42.00 for an undercooked steak which had to be sent back to the kitchen. I was not a happy camper. I have never seen a restaurant's food and ambiance decline as quickly as this one. Bruce Marder better get his act in order, or he'll see this once-sucessful restauarant go the way of Cafe Capo. Jeez, even the music isn't any good any more. Yes, The Brentwood lost its Mojo when it lost David. Sad. This was such a great neighborhood, New Yorkey kind of bar and grill. Update: After David left the Brentwood, patrons still could rely on the man behind the bar, the great Angelo. Angelo made the best martini in town. Now..ANGELO is also gone. Talk about a place losing it's mojo. What is going on there? Pros: So dark that on a bad hair day no-one will notice. Booths are comfortable if you score one Cons: Way too dark, service is awful, chaotic seating policy, cavalier attitude about reservations more

Best artichoke plate in LA 11/2/2006

It's one of my favorite places to go. Something about this place is inviting and serene. Chef Vicente is definitely a great find, and he prepares dishes perfectly. The bar scene is happening at this small restaurant, some nights you are lucky if you ever get a seat at the bar. This restaurant only has 19 tables, so of coure you are going to wait, whether you have a reservation or not. The wine list is extensive, and the food is great, warm, and down to earth. Pros: Ambience, Food, Wine List Cons: The wait more

Nice joint...Why must you always keep me waiting even though i have a reservation? 8/14/2006

I really like the place...but i have to wait 15-30 min everytime come in...with a reservation....And im ok with that..but my guests really arent.... Food is nice...a bit pricey...its a wierd scene.....young drunks sitting next to a local brentwood family....sitting next to some 75 year old guy and a 35 yr old ditz..... more

Vegetarian Friendly! Kid's Menu! Powerful Drinks! 7/18/2005

Aside from having the best vegetables I have ever eaten at a restaurant in the US, their fries are sublime. I saw the entire cast of Friends eating doughnuts, while I was eating cream stuffed mozzarella and farmer's market tomatoes. I can't get enough of this place. They have the wamest manager I have ever met. David actually welcomed me home after I had been MIA for a month. I felt as if the staff missed me. Amazing. Go there, let David pick out your wine, get the vegetables platter and a mac & cheese. Finish with a warm chocolate bread pudding, listen to some blues. Pros: A+ List Star Power, Vegetarian Friendly, Powerful Drinks Cons: ice cream, anchovie in caesar, expensive wines more

11:30 PM and I Had The Munchies 7/18/2005

If you have the muchies go here!!! I had just arrived from the airport and was starving. In LA nothing good is open late except The Brentwood. I had the mac & cheese, a mini prime new york steak, the best fries ever and washed it all down with two huge martinis. It's not cheap, but they serve an honest good drink, are very welcoming, have scruptous food and play killer music. I also noticed lots of single hot women and single guys. Pros: Music, David, Mac N' Cheese Cons: n/a, n/a, n/a more

  • Brentwood is not one of LA's "72 suburbs in search of a city" that Dorothy Parker spoke of. The residents of this tony enclave value its private country-club setting, which lacks only a clubhouse. Thanks to this spot, now they have one--a dimly lit masculine room with spacious booths, linen-topped tables, original art and no membership required. Bruce Marder and partners revive the burger-and-fries menu he perfected at West Beach Cafe. Brentwood also boasts bigger and better versions of what was served when this was the Brentwood Inn--jumbo shrimp cocktail, charred, dry-aged New York steak and apple pie a la mode, plus a few Italian touches. The signature burger is a 10-ounce slab of ground beef on a bun, anointed with only a lettuce leaf, onion and tomato. Double-fried potatoes are extra-crispy and served in a heat-conserving metal cone.
