Best

Thalassa is the best Greek restaurant in New York. Fresh amazing food followed by amazing service! Must try this restaurant!

Worst

I went to this place on a Tuesday, and it was empty (only 3 or 4 tables), so ambience was kind of cold. I sat at the bar to wait for my friend and asked fo a glass of Chardonnay. ...

As soon as you enter the restaurant, you'll be lured into wonderful surroundings, and friendly staff. The decor is very appealing, as is the dining area. This is a great restaurant week pick. Food is authentic greek style fish and meats, don't come here for a gyro! Wait-staff is friendly, and the meal was delicious. I'd definitely come back here. more

Upscale Greek 5/24/2006

As you walk in you'll notice this isn't your local taverna with kebabs and gyros. This is high end Greek cuisine. The dramatic dining room has high ceiling and stunning artwork. The tables are set apart which makes conversation pleasant and convenient. The food is quite respectable, but not entire memorable. The starters were excellent good traditional dips and salads. The fish was fresh but a bit bland. The lamb was slightly overdone. Desserts were updated classics. I'd prefer a nice sticky gooey baklava to this dry version. more

High-end Greek cuisine 8/17/2005

If you are in the mood for seafood cooked with real talent and flare, Thalassa offers a great lunch and dinner menu. While the service is a bit long at times, the cuisine is very authentic, down to the extra virgin olive oil served before each meal. The interior is fashionably designed and I was impressed even from the first steps into the door. If the ethnically prepared fish on the menu isn’t to your design, you can also order the freshest of fish by the pound. Don’t miss the extensive wine list, either. more

  • The Scene
White sails pulled taut overhead, honey-colored wood plank floors, a marble bar--it feels like dining aboard a beautifully restored sailboat. The lighting is flattering, the crowd somewhat serious and service generally attentive and well-meaning.

    The Food
If the decor isn't hint enough, the fresh fish packed in ice just to the left of the bar will erase any uncertainty: Seafood is the house specialty, and it's reliably fresh. Start off with feta-stuffed grilled calamari, tender, subtly sweet veal dolmas or rare scallops wrapped in shredded phyllo dough and served with a tangy caper sauce. If they've got it, order the lethrini, a delicate white fish, simply perfect when grilled and drizzled with lemon and olive oil. The hearty braised lamb shank is irresistible as well. Don't miss almond baklava for dessert.
