Disappointed that my first try resulted in a very expensive, very lackluster haircut, I swung to the polar opposite--I was going to find the best cheap hair cut in town. Enter Thairapy Salon & Spa. Located in a fairly quiet shopping center on Waugh, it was convenient to home and work. The salon has a really pleasant atmosphere, lots of windows and natural light. There are only a few stylists that work there but all are incredibly friendly and kind. They listen to your hair concerns and ideas, and then tell you their own concerns and ideas for your hair. They seem really passionate about their work and spending an hour in the salon is just a really pleasant experience.
On top of that, the price is very right. Charges are based, somewhat, on the stylist, so that stylists with less experience charge less than their more experienced counterparts. I have been styled by several different people, and my cuts have ranged from $35 to $55. (For the record, I can tell no discernible difference in the quality of my cuts between the $35 stylist and the $55 stylist.)
As I mentioned, the stylists totally listen to what you want for your hair. Maybe to a fault? They seem to be so anxious to please that they don't do anything unless you specifically ask for it, or they explicitly get permission from you to do it. The best way to describe Thairapy is: Visible Changes quality of haircuts, with a much, much nicer ambiance. Again, they address my hair concerns and don't do anything wrong, but don't really do much special, either.
It's a good salon for competent haircuts at great prices, without having to walk into a mall. But I'm still trying to find my Houston hair soul-mate.
Oh, and I should note, the salon seems to be getting good word of mouth because the last few times I've been in it's been packed!
Pros: Great people, great salon. great prices
Cons: Well done but uninspired cuts
