Awesome Haircut, Great Atmosphere 11/23/2008

I absolutely love Thairapy! Umar is my stylist and he does a great job every time I go in. A double shampoo = an extra long head massage and a nice warm towel over your eyes to completely relax you. All of the people that work there are friendly and helpful. I have highly recommended Umar and Thairapy to all of my friends. The prices are extremely reasonable for the service you receive. more

Great hair color experience 11/6/2008

I went to Thairapy last night and had an appt with Lisa. She was awesome. We sat for awhile discussing my hair needs and issues in the past. She genuinely cares about your hair, not only how it will look, but how to make it healthy. She really works with you to get what you want. I will definitely go back to have her cut my hair too, as I know she will listen Pros: Staff was really helpful, late hours on Wednesday, very knowledgable and passionate Cons: Parking may be tight more

Skill, versatility, and the perfect ambiance! 10/1/2008

i went to college in houston and finally found thairapy at the end of my senior year . . .finally! i've been there a few times, and all of the stylists are so friendly and have great advice (when i listen in on their product/styling advice with other clients...). umar is my stylist every time i go, and i wouldn't have it any other way. he understands my hair: where it actually parts, how to keep it long and beautiful, and tips for easy styling. he doesn't overwork my hair, but rather always gives it the cut it needs for me to look my best. he knows how to subtlely tweak the hair to achieve completely different looks, and every time i leave thairapy, i feel beautiful. rachel (the owner) is so gracious and talented also, and jennifer is so helpful whenever i call or arrive. i won't get my hair styled anywhere else now! Pros: laid-back atmosphere (and great music), staff friendliness, skill! more

Nice hair experience 9/6/2008

I visited Thairapy for the first time today and was pleased with my results. My stylist was Emily and I think she did a great job with the consultation and execution. Normally, when I ask for highlights, I get bleached blond streaks in my dark hair. Emily gave me pretty caramel highlights that blend in and look natural. She also gave me a cute short haircut that is easy for me to style. The scalp massage during the shampoo nearly put me to sleep-it was so relaxing! She recommended products, but wasn't pushy about the sale. I will definitely return to Emily! Pros: Parking, Location, Atmosphere more

I'm not easily impressed, but this is a great salon! 9/4/2008

Great experience overall. Customer service and personal attention to customer needs would be reason enough to return, but Margaret was a skilled and outstanding stylist. It's such a time saver to be able to shake your head and every hair naturally goes into place. These people are professionals. Definitely a 'do-over' !!!! Pros: Great haircut Cons: Pricey, but worth it. more

My Hair Journey, Part II 8/15/2008

Click on my username to read the Introduction and Part I of my journey. Disappointed that my first try resulted in a very expensive, very lackluster haircut, I swung to the polar opposite--I was going to find the best cheap hair cut in town. Enter Thairapy Salon & Spa. Located in a fairly quiet shopping center on Waugh, it was convenient to home and work. The salon has a really pleasant atmosphere, lots of windows and natural light. There are only a few stylists that work there but all are incredibly friendly and kind. They listen to your hair concerns and ideas, and then tell you their own concerns and ideas for your hair. They seem really passionate about their work and spending an hour in the salon is just a really pleasant experience. On top of that, the price is very right. Charges are based, somewhat, on the stylist, so that stylists with less experience charge less than their more experienced counterparts. I have been styled by several different people, and my cuts have ranged from $35 to $55. (For the record, I can tell no discernible difference in the quality of my cuts between the $35 stylist and the $55 stylist.) As I mentioned, the stylists totally listen to what you want for your hair. Maybe to a fault? They seem to be so anxious to please that they don't do anything unless you specifically ask for it, or they explicitly get permission from you to do it. The best way to describe Thairapy is: Visible Changes quality of haircuts, with a much, much nicer ambiance. Again, they address my hair concerns and don't do anything wrong, but don't really do much special, either. It's a good salon for competent haircuts at great prices, without having to walk into a mall. But I'm still trying to find my Houston hair soul-mate. Oh, and I should note, the salon seems to be getting good word of mouth because the last few times I've been in it's been packed! Pros: Great people, great salon. great prices Cons: Well done but uninspired cuts more

Lisa is an amazing hair therapist!!!! 7/12/2008

I was absolutely pleased with Lisa's care and attention she gave me while gaining her service. She was extremely attentive, professional and thorough with my color, highlights and haircut. Lisa has definitely gained another client because she did an FABULOUS JOB. I have been to other places for haircuts such as the ever famous franchise...Visible changes--- which is in all the malls across texas---- is like a production line with little attention to detail and overpriced for what service u get! Anyhow...on top of a beautiful style and color that was added I was very pleased with the atmosphere and other stylist at Thairpy...extemely professional and attentive to their clients as well! On top of all the above you get a great deal...totally affordable!!! GO THERE and see Lisa...u will not regret it...a prefectionist who gets you the results you seek! Pros: a hidden treasure of houston...Lisa and all staff extremely talented Cons: NONE more

Rachel Rocks! 7/8/2008

After my regular hair stylist stopped cutting hair, I was desperate to find someone. Rachel was the answer to my prayers. She was able to make my unruly hair behave while still giving me the hairstyle I wanted. She really takes her time to make you look your best. She even includes a scalp massage with the shampoo. The best part is her prices are incredibly competitive for a metropolitan area. The salon itself is very attractive with a cool zen feel to it. Anyone who is looking for a stylist should make an appointment with Rachel today. I have recommended her to friends, and they all agree that she is the best! Pros: Great haircut, great prices, great location, great personality Cons: None more

Doesn't always listen 5/28/2008

I was disappointed because they didn't listen to what I wanted, but went back because I thought I'd be nice and give them a chance, especially after all the other great reviews. But after I said something, my next appointment was screwed up. It might not have been a hint - maybe it was a sign from God - but I decided to try someplace else. more

Absolutely stellar experience, every time! 5/14/2008

It's so hard to find a good salon, with stylists who actually listen and show true expertise. I really lucked out in finding Thairapy! I've had both Margaret and Lisa cut and highlight my hair, and they really know their stuff. They both know how to take what you tell them and interpret that into a very flattering haircolor and style. They are both really friendly and upbeat and I love the atmosphere of this salon. The prices are very reasonable and it's well worth it for the service you receive. I couldn't be happier with this salon and I wholeheartedly recommend Thairapy to anyone. Pros: great website where you can send a note to schedule appointments, open late wednesdays Cons: closed mondays more

Excellent experience in every way! 5/12/2008

I'd been going to a different salon, which is also highly recommended on this site, but have not been happy with the results for some time now. It's always tough finding a new stylist, but after many, many hours of searching and reviewing available information on the web, I chose Thairapy and hoped the powers that be would put me in the right chair. I was rewarded for my faith, BIG TIME! The salon itself has a nice energy - very friendly, calm, relaxed, with a spa-like feel. But, Lisa Kugler is a special find. She spent at least 20 minutes discussing what I wanted, what I've been doing, what's working, what isn't. She listened to EVERYTHING I said. She then gave me the best hair cut I've had in years, literally. She was also extremely gentle which I never thought mattered that much to me until I experienced it. She also recommended some products that have totally changed my hair in all the right ways. I am beyond happy and she has a customer for life. Pros: Very reasonable, excellent service and Lisa! Cons: None so far, don't expect to find any either. more

A wonderful place!!! 5/6/2008

I have been going to Thairapy Salon and Spa for over a year now, and I get my hair cut with Margaret. Not only is she extremely sweet...she knows her stuff!!! I am really bad about picking a hair style that I want and committing to it, but Margaret always figures something out that works with my hair, my face structure, my hair color, my personality...you get the point. She always consults me on the hair style that I desire, and then makes some recommendations of her own (which I tend to like the best). She never just attacks my hair, as some hair stylists do; she starts gradually trimming and checks with me if I am comfortable with it "as is" or want to go on cutting. My hair always looks great and somewhat unique when I leave, even if it's just after a trim. Margaret is so friendly and fun to chat with, that I wish my hair grew faster! The salon itself is beautiful, clean, and very comfortable. It's a great place to relax and look fabulous! As of Margaret, I'd give her 10 stars if I could!!! Pros: Service, atmosphere, skill, location, Cons: closed on Mondays more

Great Staff and Great Service 4/30/2008

I recently went to Thairapy for a cut and color with Lisa. She first spent about 30 minutes discussing my hair, both previous care and issues and what I want from my hair (cut, color, time spent fixing, etc.). Then she gave me a great cut and color! She also suggested some products that have helped my hair tremendously! I'll definitely be back! Thank you Lisa! more

Best haircut I have every had! 4/22/2008

Fantastic! Just had my hair cut by Rachel (she is fabulous). She listened to what I wanted and then suggested a few alternatives after looking at my hair, and then gave me the cut I have been looking for. I am a man and have a lot (I mean a whole lot) of very straight hair which is the hardest to cut. It has a lot of cowlicks and shows every cut mark if not done properly. I have tried every barber and salon from New York to California but have never had a stylist who understood how my hair grew and knew how to deal with it. Rachel knew how to cut it, style it and gave me the look I was shooting for. I know my hair is hard to deal with but she took the time to listen and suggest and voila.........a perfect cut for my hair. If you have hair that is straight or curly, I would suggest you get in touch with Rachel as she is the best in the business. I will not go anywhere else. Lovely, eccletic shop centrally located with a warm and friendly staff. My highest recommendation. And no, I am not related to anyone at this salon, and I wrote this review out of respect and appreciation for a top tier stylist who knows her business. By the way, they also offer manicures, pedicures, facials and massages and I have tried the massage and facial........excellent. If you are looking for a unique and caring staff with the knowledge to do everything from color to cut........look no further. Pros: The absolute finest haircut I have ever had. Cons: You might have to make an appointment as Rachel is very busy. I wonder why? more

Great Haircut 4/4/2008

Been going to Thairapy for several months now and think they do a great job...friendly, clean, reasonably priced. Lisa does a great job cutting my hair and her personality makes the experience a pleasure. I'll definitely spread the word. Satisfied Guy Customer more

Still Looking 3/29/2008

I?m new to Houston and decided to try Thairapy after reading the reviews online. I should?ve known better when I called and got an appointment the very next day. My stylist was Lisa, who was very good about asking me what I wanted and walking me through the process. I wanted a simple highlight, but was somehow convinced that by coloring my entire head first I would receive a more natural blended look. She told me she would be using an ash seeing as my hair naturally pulls warmer colors. Well, I guess she forgot because when she was mixing it she used a natural color, which turned my hair orange. Yes, orange. She had planned a happy hour with another girl that works there for 7, and it was already 7:30 so you can imagine the rush foiling my hair. At 8:30 (5:15 appointment), I was finally done and disappointed, but hopeful that the orange would fade to blonde over next few days. However, that wasn?t the case. The next day at work two people told me my hair was ?cute? and asked me if I did it myself. I wanted to cry because I had spent $150 for results I didn?t even like. more

Still Looking (cont) 3/29/2008

I had debated seeing another stylist, but didn?t want to hand over another $150 for it to be redone. So after three days, I called to see if Lisa was available to fix it? and of course she had openings. The receptionist told me I wouldn?t be charge because I had called within a week of my original appointment. Great! I would like to think that customer satisfaction counts for something in a business model. Upon arrival with my orange hair, she told me that a toner alone wouldn?t fix it and suggested I add high and lowlights to the crown where it was most obvious. After two hours of refoiling, it looked ten times better but I still wasn?t satisfied. I wasn?t taking it any further though. After all, she was doing this for free to fix her original mistake. As I?m getting ready to leave, the receptionist hands me a bill for $65. What? She gets repeat business and paid again because she messed up in the beginning. They had the audacity to ask me if I would like to go ahead and schedule my next appointment. F* that! I would?ve gone somewhere else the 2nd time around if I knew I?d being paying for something I wasn?t completely satisfied with yet again. Needless to say, I?m still looking for a hairstylist $215 in the hole! more

Disappointed 3/20/2008

I made an appointment with Margaret after reading the reviews on CitySearch. I have very curly, thick hair and thought she would do a great job with it. I was a little disappointed. She did take the time to talk to me about what I wanted but when it came time to actually cut my hair she wasn't that great. My hair doesn't look any different than when I went in there and I specifically asked for layers. I also told her i wanted it thinned out a lot but it doesn't seem like she did that very well either. She was very friendly, the whole staff was nice but in terms of the actual haircut I am definitely not impressed and do not plan to return. They did call after my appointment but they left a voicemail and I didn't really feel like calling back to express my thoughts. more

A Place to Decompress 2/26/2008

This is a wonderful and fabulous place...I was looking for a place that had everything I wanted to experience at a Salon & Spa to treat myself for my birthday. After researching, I found that Thairapy had great reviews and was highly recommended. From the moment I walked in, Jennifer the receptionist greeted me warmly and was very helpful when I booked my appointment. I chose the "Decompress" package and started with my relaxing facial with Sandy, then moved on to my wonderful massage with Elissa and took a break and had a light lunch that they provided, which took me by surprise. After lunch, I moved on to my spa pedicure & manicure with Lisa, where I was offered a mimosa... again...quite a surprise! Last, but not least, I got my haircut by Jennifer and closed the place down. I felt so relaxed that I didn't want to leave, even though I was there for 6 hours! (My appointment was at 1...didn't leave til about 7pm!) I really needed a beauty day, and Thairapy definitely delivered. They had such GREAT customer service and definitely made me feel as if I was on the VIP list. Thanks again to all the staff there... I assure you that I will see you again soon! And I've already been referring alot of people so watch out for them! :) Pros: Great customer service!!! more

Scissors Phobia 2/8/2008

I have been needing a haircut for a long time! But my long time stylist went MIA about a year ago and I've been grieving the loss and not looking for another one. This week I finally got to the point that I could not stand to look at myself in the mirror so I came to Citysearch to look for a new stylist. It took me a couple of hours of narrowing down to 3 choices. I finally decided to bite the bullet and give Thairapy a try. I got an appointment with Jennifer for the next day. She had not been mentioned in the reviews on this site but I decided to take the chance. She is Awesome!!! She didn't go crazy with the cut or the products. She gave me a good cut and all my friends noticed the cut immediately! I have one friend that has been telling me to color my hair. I don't want to do that because it's too much maintenance. Since she has seen the cut that Jennifer gave me, my friend has quit saying that I neeed color. Yea! It's been over 24 hours since I've had the hair cut and it is still beautiful! I did not need to come home and wash out all the junk other stylists always put in my hair. Jennifer gave me a great cut and style. And it's something that I can duplicate at home. Kudos to Jennifer and Thairapy! I will be back! Pros: Staff, atmosphere, services, skill, hours. Cons: Parking (park on side), a little far from home-but worth the drive! more
