I use to live down the street from Thai Dee for about a decade, and every time passing down their restaurant I always asked myself ""who could possibly want to eat there""? Of course, at that time I didn't even know what thai food was nor did I even care to find out what kind of food they served there, in all honesty I found that place to be repulsive!
Anyway, the very first time I had Thai food was at a place called ""Thai Pikul"" because that where some friends took me for my 21st birthday, and I really liked it. I tried their pad thai and I craved it ever since, I though it was a fantastic dish...
A couple of years later, I was waiting for the bus on Blanco Rd. which happened to be right outside of Thai Dee, my sister and I had to wait for the bus for at least an hour, so this was the first time I considered to acknowledged this tiny little place. Since i had loved thai food from the first time i had tasted it, I decided to finally give this place a chance. I wanted to know what it was all about. And after all, I did had an hour to spare...
I walk-in and their clientele looked very ""upscale"" which
caught me by a huge surprise! (in all honesty, I thought this place was going to be empty) If anything I felt a little out of place being there... and even though i was nervous, I was already there so I decided to go ahead and asked for their menu, the lady/waitress/cashier was very polite.
I immediately ordered their Pad Thai, which is the dish that I had been dying for! I also recommended it for sister who is your ""typical"" teenager... who some at that age are close minded to foreign food. You know, she's used to chick fil' a, sonic and junk of the sort, but I gave her my word that she would like it. (and even though i had not tasted thai dee's yet, I knew i was taking a gamble with what I had promised her). I also took a chance on their Thai tea while we were waiting for our food. The thai tea was amazing, my sister loved it... she was pretty scared to try it at first but she wanted more of it as she kept drinking it. And than the moment of truth... our chicken pad thai...as soon as i tasted it i was in Thai Heaven, no joke. I had forgotten all about my first pad thai experience and had replaced it with this one, like being born again kinda thing (lol) It was so delicious I have not even words to describe it. And my picky eater of a sister was hooked on it too, I'm glad she liked it because I'm always trying to get her to try new dishes, but she rejects them... not this time! She finished the whole plate. And even though it was so good, and I dreamed of MORE, there wasn't enough space in my stomach for it, they really fill you up and all for a great price.
When we came back outside, we realized that most of the cars parked outside were Mercedes and BMW's, and no they were not from costumers at at crappy gas station, they were all at Thai Dee!
After that day, I have made that place top on my list, I've taken 2 of my friends to eat there with me, I have ordered for the delivery to eat with my brother and sister at their school, I have ordered for delivery on rainy days for my own self, sooooo amazing! And recently I had talked to my Mom about it, we haven't had a chance to go together, but I can't wait for her to try it, I'm sure she is going to love it as well.
I feel kinda bad for all of those years that it has been taken for granted, I hope that it stays open for 10 more years at least, this is just the beginning for me and I want to enjoy it as much as I possibly can, thank-you Thai Dee, keep on that good work!
& I guess what they say is true ""don't judge book by it's cover"" well don't be fooled by their outer appearance, their food is 100% worth it and they are very clean inside, trust me otherwise i would not even bother taking this time to write this long ;)
I
Pros: great price, generous portions, delicious & authentic
Cons: The outside does not look appealing- don't let that stop u!
