Slow service and average food 5/6/2008

Went for take out midweek and it took over an hour to get my order. The restaurant was only half full but they were understaffed and just ridiculously slow. And it's not that cheap. More expensive than other nearby Thai places like Noodle World and Thai Paradise. Pros: decent food Cons: slow service, understaffed, did i mention slow service more

Thumbs down 4 Thai Puple 5/1/2008

Because I was in the area I decided to give it another try. While waiting for a menu, I noticed several calls being placed for orders for pick up. Although the establishment has interesting decor and feels inviting, the service just sucked. There were three other couples in the resturant but I was never asked once if I wanted a refill of water. The gal who took my order brought out a thai tea instead of regular iced tea and the food just didn't taste the same to me. Another table had a problem communicating with the waitress as to what they desired for lunch. I tried to make the most of my meal but what really put made the experience bitter was the fact that they would not accept my 20 dollar bill, claiming it was a fake! There are several other Thai options to choose from so next time I'll just eat somewhere else. more

thai food for a good price 11/5/2006

Get home made thai food for a great price. Dishes are around $8-10 and they are good portions. You can share with family members for family style eating. Location is between two busy streets and there is easy access. Restuarant is a good size where I never had to wait for a table. Atmosphere is relaxing and does not get loud, so you can have an intimate meal with someone. Surrounding area is becoming more busy and has the feel of old town pasadena. You can have an enjoying walk down main street or go to the movies across the street. Pros: Crab fried rice and pad thai are awesome, can't go wrong with thai iced tea Cons: at night parking there is valet service, can be a little hard finding parking more

Yum yum thai 8/13/2006

My husband and I love this restaurant. I will say, though, that certain items are AMAZING and other items are just ordinary. So, we tend to order the same dishes and they are fabulous! Pros: Food, Price Cons: Parking, Ambience more

GREAT SPICY FOOD! 7/30/2006

the menu is extensive, and for those with a spicy palette, this restaurant will be right up your alley! more

Great place to visit before a movie. 5/30/2006

I've been to Thai Purple several times. This restuarant is conveniently located directly across from the Regal theatres in Alhambra. Surprisingly, its not as crowded as some of the other eating establishements nearby. The food however is fantastic. Seems like each time I enjoy it even more. The meals are very tasty and presented very well. The service is a tad slow. Theres usually 2-3 waitresses working on any given day. You have to flag down a waitress to get help. Once your order is taken, your meals arrive pretty fast. Theres not a long wait to get your dish. Pros: Spicy cat fish, sweet pineapple rice Cons: service a bit slow more

generous size, yummy, great service 1/8/2006

I've been here many times and I always have a great time here. The food come in large portion compare to those restaurants in Thaitown and it's still very tasty also. The funny thing is I love orange chicken here even it's not really Thai though but every restaurant has it nowsday, their orange chicken is the best I've ever have so far. Pad see ew, Pad Thai and Pad kee mao is good too. The service is prompt and their staffs are kind and helpful. Pros: food, service Cons: parking more

Just another Thai restaurant 10/18/2005

I remember the food here used to be very good. We visit there a second time about a year later and it just wasn't very ""Thai"" in terms of taste. The biggest disappointment was that they were trying to be creative and screwed up the Tum Yum Shrimp by adding huge cubes of tomatoes in the soup which is a no no, it completely killed the taste, I thought I was having tomato-fish soup (found more in Vietnamese delicacies). I haven't have the guts to go back after that, so I'm not sure how it is now. The service was good, but I mostly rate food. They do have an advantage being the only Thai restaurant in its location, which is a busy developing ""Old Towne Pasadena"" like strip. Pros: location Cons: food more

HORRIBLE 10/18/2002

I did not enjoy my dining experience at all. The food was not very good. I am normally a big supporter of small joints but this restaurant came as a huge disppointment. The service was very good though and the prices were very inexpensive. But in this case, you are paying for what you're getting. Pros: Cheap, Service, Parking Cons: Poor Food more

Thai Purple Talks Thai 8/15/2002

Thai Purple is a great little place in downtown Alhambra within walking distance from all the other cool places. The menu is graphical to give those people without a picture in their mind of what the dish they are about to order looks like an easy entrance into the world of more exotic and authentic Thai food. A cozy place good for any night on the town. Pros: Close to Main St., Great menu Cons: Close to Main St., Parking can be tough more

Great, cozy Thai place 6/5/2002

This is my favorite Thai place in LA, and not just becuase I live up the street from it. The folks that run it put a lot of effort into the food, the decor, and the service. I've never been dissapointed. The Pad Thai is not too sweet and they will substitue tofu for meat on any dish. The service is usually prompt, except when they are swamped and even then it is usually good. I would recommend eating family style and ordering three or four dishes to be shared amongst a group of say, 3 people. My favorites are the pad thai (flat noodles), pad pri keeng (green beens in a mouth watering sauce with meat), and the fried eggplant dish. Parking can be tricky since it is in the cool part of Alhambra which has lots of restaurants and entertainment, but they have a free valet service. Pros: Great Pad Pri Keeng, Inexpensive, Boba Thai Iced Tea Cons: Parking more
