A Slice of Old School Texas, ""Best Dive Bar"" in Austin! 12/13/2007

I've been going to the Texas Showdown for many years now. Long enough to join the prestigious Stein Club (basically my own mug to call my own which will always be there waiting for me.) This bar is well known for three things:\r \r 1. Great atmosphere\r 2. Great regulars\r 3. Great bartenders\r \r Never will you walk into any other bar and be welcomed the first time like you have been going there for years. The people are friendly and the beer is plentiful!\r \r So come on down and pick up a conversation, throw some darts, shoot some pool or grab any of the great bar games and have a blast. Pros: Great atmosphere and people. A fun place to relax and mingle. Cons: No liquor. Can get crowded on the weekends. Parking. more

Still A Real Gem 7/31/2006

I loved this bar back in the day. By all recent accounts men are still men and women still shoot pool at the Showdown. Pros: Cold Beer and Stein Club Cons: Ben is not there anymore? more

The Showdown Rocks 6/21/2005

The bartenders are great people who will serve the cold beer with a smile. Ask for Paulie, he is the man. Enjoy the back patio and watch people as they come and go. And if you see anyone with a personal mug, they are the regulars and not to be messed with. The only problem? Frat guys in the daytime ordering lots of sandwhichs. There is only one bartender in the daytime so if he/she has to make many sandwhichs, the service slows down and you could end up waiting 5 minutes for a beer. Love this place 1/14/2003

I really enjoy the Showdown. What is great is that it is a enjoyable bar with ample seating and interesting atmosphere. Plenty of beers to choose and great prices on the pitures. You can play pool, or darts or games. There is a juke box and a beer garden out back. What more do you need to consume the sweet necture of the Gods? I go to the Showdown regularly and have a great time when I go! Pros: Cheap, Fast, Friendly more

Lowdown on the Showdown 10/3/2002

The Showdown offers a refreshing alternative to all of the McBars that litter this town. It is one of the few remaining True Austin Bars - having been around for over 20 years. The beer selection is extensive and the food is classic pub grub. Best of all, for me, the glasses and pitchers are all kept ice cold. They've got some of the nicest bartenders in town. Even on the busiest nights, there is always room to find a good spot to chat or read. In good weather, the beer garden out back is a sweet getaway from the chaos of the Drag. The Texas Showdown is definitely one of the best beer bars in Austin. more
