All around wonderful! Theresa Rocks! I usually hate getting my hair colored because it takes so long. But Theresa was so great the time just flew by. I will definitely be back....

My boyfriend was a regular customer at Tenpachi & I decided to try it myself. Everytime he would come home, I'd have to trim what they missed while he was there. They didn't do a ...

Don't like the new place, but love Kelly! 7/6/2010

Kelly is the only reason that I continue to be a customer of the Tenpachi in Charles Village (now named Moxie Hair Studio). Besides her, the only other positive attributes in my opinion are a low key atmosphere and cheap prices. Kelly is the only stylist (not just at Moxie but in Baltimore, MD) that I've felt comfortable with and trust with my hair. Even though I am generally unimpressed with Moxie Hair Studio, I will continue to be a patron because of Kelly. more

Won't go here anymore 1/26/2010

I used to go to Myrna, the senior stylist. I really liked the way she did my hair. She has left and gone to Moxie Hair Studio. They are very rude at Tenpachi and since Moxie Hair Studio is in the old Charles Village location of Tenpachi it is much closer to my house anyway. There seems to be a big turnover there. I wouldn't recommend it. more

fast and cheap - quality is good 12/20/2006

I find Tenpachi is a generally good deal. It's not a NYC salon, it's not haute culture, but it's good, cheap, and the stylists are competent enough. Find one you like. Some are better than others. more

you get what you pay for... 8/9/2006

and I got a bad haircut. So did a couple of other people I know, including a guy with a very easy cut. more

hey whatever 4/10/2006

sorry about Tenpachi. I have had two bad experiences, of making appts for coloring after my first excellent experience. Both times, the salon was not able to find the records from my colorist. One time is perhaps excusable; not twice. You would think they would either keep a record somewhere, or at least be sure to have info on hand before the customer comes in for an appt. Instead, the receptionist (who must be practicing for the next Academic Award for unstudied slackerdom) says: well, it's your choice -- for what? an appt with someone who probably has even less clue than she does, or make another appt? Nein, danke! more

Not just for the young and hip 3/26/2006

Tenpachi serves everyone from kids to old folks, all with pleasant and quick service, so don't be put off by the hip stylishness of the place! You can usually call and get an appointment for the same day if you don't want a particular stylist, but they do run on a very strict schedule. If you are more than five minutes late (maybe less?), you lose your slot. No exceptions. This is good though because it means you're in and out without a lot of waiting. more

A Chic Clip 2/4/2006

Tenpachi is the essence of city chic with a bargain basement price. For $11 (it was $10 when I lived in Bmore), you can get a great haircut without the awkward conversation. The salon is beautiful with usually great music keeping the stylists upbeat. My own recommendation is twofold: 1. Speak up about what you want done. The less you say, the more freedom they'll take. 2. Look at the stylist's hair before you get your own cut. I've found the stylists' whose own hair didn't excite me gave me less than ideal haircuts. Also, be prepared to dry your own hair unless you want to pay more; they've got a station with dryers, hair accessories, and plenty of hair products. Give Tenpachi a try, but remember to book ahead; they pack the salon every day! more

Good haircuts for cheap 2/1/2006

Tenpachi is located on 30th street just off of Charles Street. They are a full service salon that offers cheap haircuts. (only 11$!) A great alternative to national chains of hair cutting factories, they offer good quality hair cuts at a fraction of the cost you pay at any other salon. Only catch is you have to dry your hair yourself--unless you are willing to pay an additional fee. Their staff are a bit on the quiet side, though, so if you prefer to have your haircut inquire about your family, this may not be the place for you. more

good cheap haircuts 12/19/2005

My husband and I go here for haircuts, and we're always happy when we leave. Alisa always does a great job with my hair. The cuts don't take long, and cheap - just $11! One word of advice - don't show up late, even by a few minutes, because they only schedule cuts for 15 minutes. So if you're late, they may not be able to squeeze you in. Other than that, i have no complaints about Tenpachi! more

Decent Price, Better Service 9/1/2005

As a Johns Hopkins student, Tenpachi definitely is the place to go for a haircut. It's relatively close to the campus and close to the wonderful coffee shop known to all caffiene addicts in the area as Xando's. The actual haircutting is moderate to mediocre, but its the best deal around (11$ gets you a shampoo and a cut). It's also pretty trendy, though the first time I went there, I was asked to make an appointment and come back later in the week because they were booked solid. Also, the place sports a clean bathroom, which is always a plus. more

Low Prices, Competent People 8/17/2005

On the outside, Tenpachi looks like just another hole in the wall that someone cleared out and set up shop in. The ceiling is exposed, the interior walls are brick, and the furniture is sparse. But what they lack in appearance they make up for with low prices ($11 for a shampoo and a cut) and friendly staff. I've never had a bad haircut there, and they always get me out of there fast. more

Mostly Bad 8/16/2005

Several of my guy friends have gone to Tenpachi for their cheap $10 (now $11) haircuts. When I see them again, they are usually walking around with uneven hair. Some of their stylists really should have more training. My boyfriend went recently, however, and received a very good, very even haircut. So you could say it's hit or miss. more

Cheap Cuts, Chic Atmosphere 6/16/2005

Cheap haircuts are available at this great location near the Johns Hopkins campus. Last time I was there, it was only $10 (unfortunately, I moved from Baltimore last year). Hardwood floors, unfinished walls, loud dance music - all adds up to great atmosphere. Did I mention the prices? Cheap prices! Do yourself a favor and make an appointment. They do take walk-ins, but the wait can be long. I recommend Alisa (if she's still there). Always had great cuts from her. more
