I went to Gil for a consult after getting a completely ridiculous quote from No Ka Oi Tikki (Body Graphics) at 4th & South. The artist there must think she is a rock star--wanting to charge me $800-$1200! Totally absurd. I am so glad I went to Tattoo Odyssey instead. They are extremely professional, clean and friendly. Best yet, the sketch Gil did for me was almost identical to what the Body Graphics person came up with and he priced it in a very reasonable range. I only had to wait a few weeks for the appointment and the staff was great about rearranging my time after I realized I had a conflict. I was in the shop for 4 hrs, and it was super fun. Gil was really easy going and asked me numerous times if I was comfortable, which I was--he must have the lightest touch in tattooing. It felt more like I was hanging out with an old friend than getting tattooed. Every time he wanted to add something or change something, he got me up and gave me a mirror to ask if it was OK--very cool. And, the best part is my tattoo is spectacular! He even touched up my old tattoo and the two look like they were done together. It barely bled, and I hardly had any itching or peeling. By day 2, it looked like I had it for months. He's an amazing artist, very professional and an all around great guy. Don't even consider going anywhere else! more

I will get right to the point. Gil does a fantastic job with my tattoo. He is a very nice guy on top of that. I can't believe there is a better Tattoo parlor in the Delaware Valley or even the state of Pennsylvania. more

I have to say, choosing a tattoo, and artist was a long process for me. I had a bad tattoo done and i wanted to be sure that it didnt happen again. After lots of research I decided to meet with Gil from tattoo odyssey. I took the 45 minute drive there, met Gil, we went over my idea, he made some changes to it so it would be exactly how i wanted it. His work is absolutely the BEST. You cannot even tell I had a tattoo before, it completely dissappeard. I would highly recommend his shop to anyone, and now i feel confident that i have someone i can trust on my next tattoo. Thanks again Gil. Also his shop is very clean, and has a great atmosphere, Nikki was great to deal with in scheduling, and any other questions i had. If i could give it more stars i would. more

Dr. Gil took the time to find just the right picture of the Shure Microphone I wanted for my tattoo, and proceeded to match the picture down to the last detail. Pros: Unbelievable replication of Picture -to-Tattoo Cons: NONE!!!!! more

Gil did my first tat in 98. I designed numerous tat's for friends who all went to Tattoo Odyssey to get their ink done. I saw how my work looked on them, it was as if I did it myself. Ok, So i put off getting my second tattoo from Gil b/c I wanted to wait until after the summer... fast forward 12 years... I went back. Never thought to go anywhere else. Over the course of time I did a drawing that was what I wanted it to be. Showed it to Gil. He made a few recommendations. i made an app't. (the app'ts take time, b/c great artists have lots of followers). He expected 5+ hours on this piece. I was ready. he was ready. He said If I was willing to stay late, so was he. He went to work. The work was amazing. Just like he said, it was MY drawing, he was just the guy who tattoo'd it on my arm. I was there about 4 hours and it flew by. He makes you feel comfortable. Makes you laugh. Perfect mix of conversations and concentration... and didn't get annoyed when i asked a ton of questions (at least to my face, lol). I am already rolling my hamster wheel on my next tattoo and I know that Tattoo Odyssey is where I am going to get it. If you want one, get one. TATTOO ODYSSEY. Pros: impecible work ethic. Clean. I've wanted to get a foot tattoo for a while, however, I wanted to go somewhere close to home. I began my search on-line, of course. Searching to find the right parlor. I came across Tattoo Odyssey, which had excellent reviews. I scheduled my appointment and I am very pleased with my tattoo. Dr. G. not only did great detailed work on my foot tattoo, he also recolored and changed the name on another one of my tattoos. Next week I am going to schedule my next appointment for him to fix the strawberry 'that's not' and create the Egyptian Eye on my right shoulder blade. Pros: Detailed more

I' ve been going to Gil for twenty years. He has the talent and experance you want in a tattooest. If you have an idea he will let you know how to make it look the best with color and placement. Gil does fantastic cover ups,and loves a challage. He knows what colors to use to make your tattoo pop, but his black work is unriveled.To fine better quality work would be difficult if not impossible.The best is right here in phila pa. I finally just got my first tattoo at 26 years old. I went my whole 26 years not knowing what kind of tattoo to get so my girlfriend told me to go to tattoo odyssey to see what I can have done. I had an idea of what I wanted just didnt know how it was going to look. So I went in and met Carl. I told him what I wanted and he told me to come back a few weeks later to see what he could come up with. Over the two or three weeks waiting for him to draw the tattoo up I started contemplating if I really wanted to get this tattoo. So finally the day came to where i went in to see it. Lets just say I was shocked by the drawing and I knew that was the tattoo I wanted. So March 6th came around and I went in to get the tattoo. I was nervous because I had no idea what to expect. Carl told me what I would feel and expect the whole time and he knew exactly what he was talking. The whole experience was great except for the pain im in now but it was worth it. I wouldnt go to anyone else and im already thinking of another tattoo to get. So if anyone out there is looking for a tattoo I would go visit Carl at Tattoo Odyssey. I heard of Carl from a friend of me and my sister's, so we decided to check out tattoo odyssey for my tatto for my 18th birthday. It goes by appointment only, so we were able to schedule my tattoo and hers for that day. I can honestly say that i enjoyed every minute of my experience there, which was a long one. We were there from 12pm-6pm due to us both getting tattoos in the same day. He dedicated so much time to us which is crucial and what every good tattoo artist should do. The whole time he made us feel comfortable, and he was very friendly and great to talk to. The most important part was the outcome of our tattoos though. I got a tattoo in memory of my mom, and he exceeded my expectations of what it could be. I'm 100% in love with my tattoo and it means so much to me, being that it was for my mom. My sister's tattoo came out great aswell, and now we are customers for life :) I would say go to Carl, he is a true artist and a great guy. Pros: wonderful tattoo experience more

Unlike most, walk in, look in a book, and get a tattoo places, Tattoo Odyssey runs on appointment only. They have 2 days (Tuesdays & Thursdays from 2-9pm and Saturdays from 1-6pm. ) where you can walk in and ask someone about your tattoo. It was a 30 minute drive for me (I live in center city), but I'm really glad I did. After a string of horrible tattoo parlor visits, I nearly gave up on my mission. I had a fairly simple request--to add a phoenix to my existing dragon. I had gone to several places with my very clear drawing (drawn in Illustrator) of what I wanted. More than one place said they couldn't do it or I wasn't being clear enough. In other words, I had to look at their pattern book and pick one. Gil, on the other hand, actually draws his work. I had a clear idea, so perhaps it was easier, but I saw people go in with very vague ideas and come out with something amazing. From the time you come in, he actually takes time to figure out exactly what you want. They require an initial $50 deposit, which they will subtract from the final cost. He'll then take about 2 weeks to draw it and make sure it's perfect before starting. This place is pretty popular, there will be a 4-6 week wait. But believe me, it is absolutely worth it. The work itself was very precise. As a former draftsmen (for a very short time) Gil has excellent line quality. He's also an amazing artist with an major eye for detail so the shading will be perfect. He didn't just take my drawing and trace it on there. He redrew it so that it matched my old tattoo and shaded both to look like they had been done at the same time. I originally went in there around September and it was finally completed in November (after 2 sittings). The whole place was very attentive. They called me when he finished the drawing, and made sure to remind me of my appointments. To top it all off, the price was very reasonable. He didn't charge by the hour like most places, he gave me a flat rate up font so I knew exactly what to expect. You may be hesitant to wait 4-6 weeks, but there is no doubt that I made the best choice I possibly could have made. I met Dr. Gil at Tattoo Odyssey thru a good friend of mine who has been going there for many years. His tatoo's are works of art...totally awesome. I have now had the pleasure of getting all my wonderful tattoo's by Gil for over a year now, and wouldn't go anywhere else. I truely look forward to each visit, and completely satisfied with the results...I get many compliments on his work!!! I first met Gil 8 years ago when I was looking to add to an arm piece. Since then Gil has done several of my tattoo's including a full back piece (5-4 hr. sittings). I have been tattooed 6 times, 3 times by Gil and 3 times by south st. hacks. Guess which ones are the best. Honestly, would you rather go to a place that you can walk right in and be in the chair immediately or a place where the artist takes the pic/concept home, works on it, brings you a finished product or 3 versions of the finished product and then schedules you for an appointment. My money goes with the guy who takes his time. Gil is the kind of guy who is going to tell you the truth when you come in. If he doesn't think something is going to look good he won't do it. Go other places and they will put any manner of picture on you and take your money. Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

If you're thinking of getting a tattoo, Tattoo Odyssey is the best shop around. Carl has done all my tattoos and I can't say enough about how much I LOVE them!
