FIRST TERRIBLE NIGHT. I've been to Tasca before but last night was the worst and I will not be going back. \r \r My husband took my parents and I out to celebrate my birthday and what I got was an awful experience. When we first arrived we had 2 people fight over who would seat us. Then it took our server 10 minutes to come to our table. When the server came, we were ready to order. We placed our drinks, apps, and entrees at the same time. We waited ONE HOUR for our food and there were only three other tables seated when we arrived (no one anywhere should wait an hour for food- I timed it). In that one hour of waiting, our server came twice to our table because we had to ask for her for drink refills and bread. When our food came out, my father's dish included saffron rice which was undercooked (the grain was still hard like raw rice). Since I couldn't find the server, I had enough and asked the hostess to get the manager. The hostess then insisted she help things and stated she'll get the manager. Instead she brought the server, after I specifically asked for the manager. So in fair effort I told the server she wasn't providing great service, only came to our table twice the whole time, and it took an hour to get the food. She didn't deny any of it. Then I asked her for the manager. FINALLY the manager came out after 20 minutes and I explained everything to her. She did apologize and refunded me half the bill. Unfortunately, that left me with such an awful experience I cannot go back there. On top of that, this year's birthday celebration is one that I will never forget. Now I'm gonna find another restaurant to do a re-do birthday celebration. more

Tasca is an epicurean delight in the mouths of Bostonians. Nestled conveniently on Commonwealth Ave in Brighton it matches delicious Tapas with a uniquely European atmosphere. While you cannot go wrong with any dish on the menu, the crab cakes and goat cheese fritters will likely enchant your pallet. Tapas dinners can be equally acceptable for a party of two or twenty, allowing everyone in your party to both try an old favorite, or go beyond their culinary comfort zone. For those of you over the legal drinking age, a carafe or pitcher of sangria is highly recommended, but be careful, this delicious concoction can sneak up on you! Tasca is by far my favorite restaurant in the area. Each of their tapas is unique and delicious, and the weekly sangria specials are always fantastic. I have never had bad service there- the wait staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is perfect. I?ve never had something there I didn?t like, but a few of my favorites are as follows: goat cheese fritters, the black bean crabcake, and the sizzling shrimp and garlic. The roasted duck is also fantastic. Tasca also is very vegetarian-friendly, with more variety and selection than found at many restaurants. Tasca is, by far, my favorite restaurant in the area. Consider first the food: Tapas style dishes allow you to try several different smaller menu items, allowing you to satiate a desire for several different types of food all at once. In a sitting you can go from goat cheese fritters to well seasoned crab cakes with salsa to braised short rib to roasted duck. I have yet to have a dish there that I have not enjoyed. The bread and humus that is provided with the meal is wonderful\r In terms of décor, it has a great atmosphere, seating is certainly close, but by no means is it too close. The dining areas have low light and there is often very nice Spanish guitar music played either live or through speakers. The background music helps dim out the other conversations around you without losing the ability to hear others in your party.\r For service, I have yet to have a bad experience. The waiters are always busy, but attentive and more than willing to grab you an extra pitcher of sangria or basket of bread. With the tapas style meals they can continuously bring out dishes as they are prepared allowing you to enjoy each one as they come.\r All in all this is a wonderful dining experience, for a low price. Tasca is a beautiful restaurant and an experience to be had. I went with my family and we enjoyed some delicious tapas and sangria. I went to Tasca for the second time in a two years last Monday, and I did not enjoy my meal either trip. I tried 5-6 different plates and I would have to say I only enjoyed one of them- the calamari. I don't really understand how some people can give raving reviews about this place... they certainly have not tried some of the finer tapas establishments Boston has to offer (particularly Taberna de Haro) which are superior in taste and quality of food. I felt like most of the food was something I could have made with meat, bread, and various Heinz products (I'm a pretty average cook). The cost was very low, which is great, but it's not low enough for me to come back to this place. Immediately when you walk in you are transported to the athmosphere of one of those wonderful romantic restaurants in Granada. The food is tasty and great value, service always friendly and the sangria fruity with a little kick. I went to Tasca on a recent trip to Boston for my birthday dinner and felt completely cheated. I do not know how this restaurant can have such high reviews, my only guess is that these folks have never had truly good tapas. The sangria tasted very watery and the fruit in it had poor texture. We ordered five dishes, only one was something I would order again (the goat cheese fritters). The cuban potatoes were boiled then tossed in sauce, not at all crispy. The pork loin tasted like it was in gravy from a jar. The vegetable timbale was overcooked and very bland. The pepper corn meatballs were OK, but the ""sauce"" tasted more like Heinz gravy with pepper (LOTS of pepper) added. Worst of all was the dessert. We ordered the ice cream crepes which had obviously been prepared DAYS in advance then frozen poorly so they tasted like freezer burn. The chocolate torte was just downright disgusting. We ended up sending both desserts back. I will say that our waiter was wonderfully attentive and very apologetic about our dissatisfaction with the food. Enjoying a restaurant for me is not just about the food - it has to have that certain conviviality of atmosphere that makes your evening fly by and has everyone lingering over their last drop of coffee, unwilling to end the night. Tasca has mastered this combination and to that end it is a local favorite to which I return again and again. I have always enjoyed the tapas - in particular: Queso de cabra al horno (goat cheese), Gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp), Caracoles (escargot) and Atun salteado (pan-seared tuna). I think the Sangria's great - yummy and cheap! :) I also really love the atmosphere - just the right dimming of the lights, Spanish music playing but not so loud you can't hear yourself, and rustic and warm walls and appointments. I would have to agree that the customer service is a bit spotty - sometimes the servers seem a bit harried, and the online reservation I made last time went into the ether, never to be seen again. The hostess looked dumbly at my confirmed reservation printout like it was written in Greek - but the manager sorted it out in the end. Overall I have enjoyed each time I dined at Tasca - it is particularly amenable to going out with friends. Pros: great food and atmosphere Cons: spotty service, online reservations do not work more

Talk about when a poor service can ruin even the most delicious food... Starting with the hostess: no welcome, no smile...then the waitress, who's attitude was more like Paris H....at the end, she even ""tried"" to include 18% service, even though we were only 3 people (usually restaurants include the 18% for a party of 6 or more). \r I can't understand why people that don't know how to treat people in a humble way work in this kind of environment. My girlfriend and I went to Tasca last night for a fund raiser event and we both were completely unimpressed. After hearing good things about Tasca we both were rather excited to give it a try. I think it is great Tasca donates 100% of the total food cost to a charity on special occasions, it makes them stand out. We started out with the Salt Cod, Crispy Potatoes, Yellow Fin Tuna, and the ""Stuffed"" Tomato. Well, there was about a half once of Cod, the potatoes were far from crispy, the tuna was ok, and the stuffed tomato was nothing more then marinara sauce. Then we figured we would move the meat and give that a try. We tried the Sausage Trio and the Puff pasty Lamb dish and were still unimpressed. All of the sausages were over cooked and the lamb had absolutely no flavor. I can also agree with some of the reviews that knocked the Sangria because it was nothing more then red wine on the rocks with some fruit in it. To sum it up, I would never waste my money at Tasca again if you want some real Tapas go to BarLola or Taberna de Haro. Pros: Good Service and Nice Interior Cons: The Food more

I decided to check out Tasca due to the good rating on this site and Zagat. Unfortunately, this place failed to live up to expectations. The dishes were bland and unimaginative. Tasca was miles behind the tapas restaurants I have been to in Chicago and NYC. The braised lamb turned out to be more akin to Campbells beef stew, the potatos were flavorless, the shrimp tasted ok, but was so obviously frozen and tiny. The only plus side is the cozy interior. But I go to a restaurant to admire the food, not the solid wood tables. Never wasting my money there again. Pros: Nice interior Cons: Disappointing food more

Tasca is the very best Spanish restaurant in Boston but it is far more! I've dined at many of the notable Tapas Restaurants on the East Coast - from Boston to Miami and none have ever eclipsed Tasca of Boston - delicate Spanish cuisine ... great prices ... and a superb wait staff all bathed in atmósfera encantadora.\r \r I have sampled everything on the Tasca menu - but new surprises always await. From Tasca's Bacalao to the Jamón serrano y Queso Manchego and Confít de pato - the tapas are exquisite. Tonight I had the Setas al jerez and Atún salteado. Ahhh ... the Setas al jerez! - portabella mushrooms delicately braised in Tasca's own sherry sauce, served with roasted garlic tostados is incredibly delicious ... and their fine Atún salteado is comparable the any in the finest restaurants in Barcelona. My fav platos principales are Salmón a la plancha and Pato asado.\r \r I cannot say enough about Tasca's professional wait staff. It is rare that you find such exemplary service from people who really seem to enjoy their work place and work. They are consistently pleasant, knowledgeable and tuned to their guests. The Valet is equally pleasant and professional leaving no question about the security and timely delivery of your car.\r \r Tasca's delightful Sangria bursts on the palate with citrus freshness softened in a fine Spanish wine. Dessert? Oh my! Their chilled flan topped with a delicate, carmelized sugar and the chocolate terrine in raspberry sauce are at the top of my list - but I hasten to add that my friends and I love them all. Finally, a word about the owner - always tuned and sensitive to the most subtle needs and wants of his guests and always in good humor. \r \r After many visits to Tasca I can only say that I've never once had a single negative experience and have always left enriched by the experience - pure fun. Our visit was so disappointing! All the rave reviews had me anticipating a memorable dinner for our daughter's graduation. Our first hint of mediocrity was the sangria and the bread on the table. The sangria was pre-prepared in a large vat and tasted too sweet and not fresh. The bread was stale. We had 5 people at our table who ordered from the tapas menu. The only dish that stood out was the shrimp with garlic. My father said it was delicious. Everyone else said their food was just okay. My daughter ordered salmon from the main entrees. It was very bland and she left most of it on her plate. I wouldn't return to Tasca although it is conveniently located for us. Cons: parking $6 more

My husband and I have been to Tasca countless times and we love it every time. We've enjoyed their Spanish guitarist, the flamenco dancers, and attended a wine tasting there. The food is so affordable and never disappoints. I especially like the gambas al ajillo (shrimp and garlic sizzling in a small pan). The wine list is very affordable and the waiters usually make great recommendations. If you join their e-mail list, they will send you tons of coupons, I have been a monthly draw winner ($10 certificate) a few times too. This is the place we take our friends and family when they come to Boston for a visit. Save room for dessert too-their Pastel Vasco is amazing. Can't say enough about this WONDERFUL hidden gem. Truly its worth any drive, t ride, etc. Six friends and I (seven total) wound up here on a Saturday night after being told we'd have to wait three hours at Toro (sorry, nothings worth that wait!). We arrived here and we were seated within a half hour. Greeted with bread and hummus, yum. We stuffed ourselves with tapas, sangria and DESSERT, for under $30 a head - we each ordered 3-4 tapas. Propt seating, great service, GREAT food, $6 valet... can't wait to go back. My favorite dish was the goat cheese empanadas... and the Crepe Helado dessert was sinful.
