Best

cute little cafe to grab some great food with friends. They also have a great little outdoor patio for seating. The food and drinks are great!

Worst

Had a breakfast meeting there and although pleasant, took forever! There were four of us and our waitress couldn't be bothered nor apologetic for the poor service. Wouldn't meet...

overpriced cafeteria food--DO NOT GO HERE 6/4/2006

Horrendous and apathetic service. Food emerged from the kitchen at completely different times and, when finally served, was lukewarm. The menu promised side dishes that never materialized. Most dishes were worse than your average college cafeteria product: lumpy hollandaise sauce, brittle waffles, unripened fruit, etc. Admittedly, they tried to apologize by giving us 50% off at the end of the meal. Still, that's 2 hours and a meal that we will never get back. more

Very expensive; Some dishes worth the price 6/2/2006

Tart is really too expensive. That's the main thing I associate with the restaurant. Some of the food I tried was very good; nothing was sublime. Certainly, almost no dishes were worth their price. I will never again order the $55 fatty veal chop with too much sage and pancetta (they unbalanced the dish). The $16 butter poached lobster appetizer was exceptional (although small). The strawberry, blue cheese, and spinach salad was very good as was the chocolate cake. The restaurant's outside patio was beautiful but $175 for two (and I brought in wine - $25 corkage!) was uncomfortably expensive. Pros: Beautiful patio, Attentive service, Interesting menu Cons: Way too expensive more

Not worth it 6/1/2006

My husband went for lunch and enjoyed it, but then we went for dinner to our regret. The food is outrageously overpriced. The service is fine and the food tastes good, but not good enough to pay that extra $10-20. I ordered a lobster "salad" that was barely an appetizer. The place was almost empty--it won't last with those prices. Don't waste your money. Pros: Food Cons: Overpriced more

Off to a great TART... 5/27/2006

I happened upon TART completely by chance. Some friends of mine were staying at the farmer's daughter hotel and, having already enjoyed it themselves, demanded that my husband and I come meet them. We all enjoyed a long lunch at one of the outdoor tables, then walked over to the Grove for a movie. When the waiter informed us that they'd only been open for j a month I was even more impressed. My advice would be to take advantage of this place as much as possible before a reservation is required. more

Something Special 5/25/2006

Like many people, I love going out to eat, but usually there is SOMETHING that sort of deminishes the experience. But this place really blew me away with great food, ambience, and service. It was just a perfect night, the food was perfectly cooked, served at the perfect time, and the atmosphere was just beautiful. Pros: Food, service, The Outdoor Patio more

A nice addition to the neighborhood 5/17/2006

We had a family dinner at Tart last week and it was great! The food was excellent- very high quality. Try the panfried crabcakes and cowboy steak- very, very good. Its pretty expensive but worth it. The decor was very nice too- we sat in the patio cabanas and the ambience is quiet and romantic but not overly intimate. This is the perfect place to hang out and lounge with friends. Ill be going back. Pros: great food, service Cons: expensive more

ambassador of us wines 5/16/2006

I love tart because of nino the winemaster and manager of tart restaurant. We love his hard to find cult pinot's and cab's list at tart and the food ,above all is the best in los angeles. In los angeles there are so many restaurants but nothing comes close to tart in food, nino's service and wine list.We love to eat and entertain our business clients all the time and tart would be our favourite entertaining and dining out option. Pros: manager, service, wines more

A Beautiful Mess 5/14/2006

In Los Angeles, sometimes the only thing that matters is how you look. If Tart was judged by looks alone, it would be a success. Beautiful decor, warm ambience, friendly service. Unfortunately, Tart also serves food. Very over-priced, mediocre and sometimes confusing food. Tart tries hard to be unique, adding unnecessary sauces and spices but in the end comes off like a desperate aspiring actress who just doesn't know when to quit. Save your money and time. You'll thank me later. Pros: Service, Ambience Cons: Food, Menu Variety, Too Expensive more

tart -A grandslam for dinner 5/13/2006

Wow! It's great to see such a casual place that has amazing food and service. Our waitor Nino was amazing! He brought the chef to our table to meet us.He gave us signed copies of the menu and wine list, a kool momento to take away from an incredable dinning expearance.I had the Fillet of beef, my wife had the veal chop. The sauce was so good I licked the plate! My wife loved her veal chop as well.We will be back for sure and bring lot's of freinds. Bon Apitete (: Pros: Service, food, the cult wine list Cons: lights too bright out more

What A Rip Off 5/11/2006

We tried Tart for dinner tonight. To make it short, the evening left a bad taste in my mouth. A large bottle of "italian' sparkling water $8.00 yielded two half full wine glasses. The crab cake appetizer was o.k. The cowboy steak for $44.00 was a bone with mostly fat attached to it, covered up with an oily parsley mix. My wife left half of her grilled swordfish on the plate. I feel like an idiot having spend $140.00 for this disappointing experience. Don't make the same mistake. You get much better food at one of the places at the fabulous farmers market across the street from Tart. Pros: outdoors Cons: rip off more

Tart a sweet start 5/11/2006

I had dinner at tart last night,I am dumfounded to read these obviously amature dinner's who wrote these other reveiws.I had one of the best meals of my life. The fillet mingon is over the top, the quality of the meat is supurb. The portion size was just right. THe fillet I was served was bigger than other places for about the same price wow!Chef Jason came out to my table and I congradulated him on his great work. The service was flawless.I never would expect that a place in my own neighborhood would be so great !!! The manager cult wine list is so kool. These guy's are on the right track! Pros: food , service , the cult wine list Cons: design more

Tart - left a sour taste in my mouth 5/7/2006

This new restaurant left a lot to be desired. Aside from the quaint exterior and what could be a fun, friendly atmosphere my friends and I stepped foot into an empty restaurant. The menu was scant and more than overpriced. Although the wine steward was friendly and knowledgeable it did not make up for the lack of atmosphere and the pittance of food we were served. (my friends and I were left thinking 'please sir, can I have some more) This restaurant has great potential - - but if the menu prices and lack of customers continue, I assume that TART will be toast. more

TART...not worth your time 5/7/2006

My experience at Tart was quite possibly my worst restaurant experience in the last 5 years. As a neighbor of the area I was excited by the possiblity of a new and fun restaurant within walking distance to my house. Upon arrival, I quickly realized this was not what I was in for. The place was completely empty, the prices astronomical, the food bland and simply said...bad. The whole experience...bad. So bad, my friends and I skipped the main course and went to a restaurant down the street for better food, better wine, and far better prices. Save your money and your time and skip Tart. Pros: the manager Cons: food, prices, crowd more

Looking forward to returning... 4/28/2006

They need to tweak at few of the menu items (and maybe relook at some of those prices); atmosphere and location are great (Tart and a movie at the Grove is a great date); Tanya our server was lovely and informative. Pros: Service, Atmosphere, Location more
