I am in FOOD HEAVEN! 12/20/2011

Tapa the World is my favorite midtown cafe/bar!!! The service is always great- very inviting, thorough, and knowledgeable. The food is scrumptious! You Must order the Mushrooms, rock shrimp, grilled veggies, Kobe Beef, mussles and the del sol salad!! Every dish I've tried has been awesome, so you can't go wrong!! If it's paella you crave, go on Monday nights for $5 off! I love thier fresh mint lemonade, so refreshing! They have live guitar music everynite and if you're lucky, you can catch a bellydance show at the restaurant next door! (the kasbah lounge). I've been here on weekend nights and it gets really busy and loud, make a reservation if you're a large group, or better yet go on a Sunday or Monday- much more low key. Also don't forget to end your meal with their homemade fruit empanadas stuffed with seasonal fruit and served with ice cream and caramel....DELICIOUS! The best part is, they are open til midnight, seven days a week!! more

Terrible Service Seems to be the Theme 4/25/2011

We stopped in before the Dinner crowd arrived. There were no more than 3 tables when we got there and no more than 6 tables when we left. BUT..... Our Service still SUCKED. The servers there are barely amateur. Our server was leaning across the bar as she talked to customers. Her words were ""Oh, you guys are over there."" pointing to the sister restaurant next door. Real professional. I had to flag our waitress down and she never actually saw me out of the corner of her eye even though I was sitting near the window in front and everyone could see me waving. The bar tender finally got her to come over and I gestured to my wife who was wanting a salad. I wanted a Lemonade, but she said ""Sure"" to my wife's request and walked off without asking if I needed anything and without even looking at me. I will not ever go back. The food was far from Terrible and really far from Great. It was.... Food. The prices are ridiculous for the mediocre quality food. Let's review.... The Service SUCKED. more

Best atmosphere 11/7/2008

I love this place!! The food is amazing! The atmosphere is perfect. I love the guitar player. Try the Chile Rellenos!! Great wine selection. Pros: Atmosphere, food, wine, music Cons: Slightly crowded seating more

Judge the Book by its Cover 6/17/2008

Sometimes it pays to judge a book by its cover. The Kasbah is decorated in rich Moroccan hues and textiles. There are so many gorgeous details a person can spend the entire night reveling in the interior design. Judging the Kasbah by its attention to visual delight alone gives it a strong 4 stars. But what happened when my food and drinks arrived? I was pleasantly surprised to find every part of my experience at the Kasbah was consistent. Our server knew the menu very well and made excellent recommendations tailored to each guest's tastes and preferences. My friends and I ordered several plates of food to share so we could try as many flavors as possible. The food was fresh and each dish was savory and delicious, but never too overpowering. If I must pick one thing about the Kasbah that stands out above all, it would be the drinks. While the Kasbah is known for its Caipirinhas, Habibis, and Mojitos give the bartender a break from muddling and order a Bocci Ball. Absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the Kasbah and will certainly keep going back. more

Such an awesome experience! 3/21/2008

This place was WAY way WAY beyond my expectations! My boyfriend and I were just hungry and decided to go here because it was close to a bar we wanted to go to and it looked cool on their website. The ambiance is fabulous! We selected a nice little corner in the couch area, nice nook with pillows and such. Very comfy. The food was great and the waitress recommended a beverage (alcoholic), that was absolutely wonderful! The food was amazingly well made. Just a cute romantic place! Loved it and will be going back time and time again. Also, the prices are really moderate. Check it out, don't be snobby about it, just go and relax, have a good time and don't worry about what the others are saying! PLUS! there are dancers!!! Belly dancing, which is fabulous! and hookahs too! Pros: SOOOO adorable, awesome food! romantic, and entertaining! Cons: NONE parking was a breeze even after 8pm on a Friday night, no wait to be seated! more

Good late evening experience 11/28/2007

Arrived after 9, mid-week. Live music- Spanish guitarist playing wonderful mood music, at a level where a I could still talk with my wife. There's a lively and interesting wine list; we started with sangrias and then had a couple of glasses of California wines. Pros: Easy parking, romantic setting more

Horrible Customer Service 7/7/2007

The service was horrible at the Kasbah Lounge. We called ahead to find out what time they were closing and the woman said 3am. When we got there we wanted to sit and smoke the hookah and eat dinner. She told us that they were closing at Midnight and could not smoke but could eat. She was so pushy trying to get everyone out the door. While we were eating we watched at least 10 people come in expecting to eat or smoke and they were turned away. We left the restaurant at 1230am... and watched a group of the bartender's friends come in and have drinks while she and another waitress took shots behind the bar. The food was good... but, the service definately made it my last visit there. Businesses should honor their advertised closing times.. expecially when customer's call ahead to find out when they are closing. Horrible service.. not worth the drive there.. will definately search for a better hookah lounge next time we're in the area. more

Excellent place for Sunday lunch. Great food, great customer service. Wheelchair access restroom. 1/9/2007

The mint tea is excellent and so is the food. My husband and I have eaten six good meals, chosing something new each time. We will return for more! Pros: Very good food Cons: Most tables too close for easy wheelchair access. more

Tapa the food chain!!! 11/20/2006

I was looking for a unique place to take my friend from out of town and since I am new to Sacramento I didn?t have the slightest idea of where to take them. When I asked around I was told to check out Tapa the world. I took my friend there on a Saturday night. Of course they were super slammed but I saw that as a testament to how good the food was going to be and I was right. We shared a pitcher of Sangria and I had one of the best salads ever. My friend was in love with the bread and dipping sauce. After sharing a few different Tapas we agreed that we would have to come back next time she?s in town. The only thing that was a little annoying was how slow the service was but we weren?t in a hurry so it wasn?t a big deal. I would definitely recommend Tapas to my friends who are looking for a yummy unique alternative to those darn chains that keep popping up everywhere. more

Don't bother 10/29/2006

I was excited to try this place out last week but was very disappointed. The service was extremely slow. The paella was TERRIBLE. The Kobe beef was also not very good quality. If you are looking for good food and authentic Spanish cuisine, Tapa the World is definitely NOT the place to go. Cons: foods, service more

Something different 8/31/2006

This was my first experience with a Tapas restaurant. Me and 3 other friends sat out on the patio on a Friday evening around 6pm. We didn't have any problem getting a table, but an hour later the place was packed. We had lots of fun and the Sangria's were gooooood. The food was high quality and pricey, but worth it. Pros: variety of food choices, wine list is VERY extensive Cons: the price more

I dined here last night 8/10/2006

I dined here last night after a long day spent with the wife and kids in the bay area. i reccomend that you don't have a wife and kids when trying to eat - it's a lot better with a younger, prettier woman, too. Pros: haven away from stupid family Cons: I DON'T LivE THERE!!!!!!!!! more

Just Great Atmosphere 8/7/2006

It's a great location with great food. Parking is a little tricky but at least you can watch for meter maids from the outside tables more

decent tapas but poor service 4/10/2006

I enjoyed the atmosphere, but was deterred by the poor service and the pricey menu items. The waitress was very non-attentive to us and did not get our order correct (although we got a free item out of it). But what really made our visit disappointing was the fact that 3 tables around us got their orders before we got ours. And we even placed the order before they were seated!! Now that didn't make much sense. One table got seated, had a full meal, and left before we even got our first entree. Luckily, we had some simulating conversation, otherwise we would have ragged on the service all night long. Overall the food was good, but some dishes were a miss, being too dry or overcooked. This place tries more to be trendy late-nite hotspot rather than a solid tapas restaurant. Pros: good drinks, cozy ambience Cons: service, pricey, small portions more

A good place for that itch you need to scratch 12/4/2005

And if the itch is spanish tapas you could really do worse than this restaurant. This was my second visit to the place, the first was about a year ago and it was too rushed for a real review. To start, this place should be a winner. Few things go so well with dinner as flamenco guitar. If you are in the mood, flamenco music is just the right volume to enjoy, without being noisy. I said should, because it seems to me that this is a restaurant in need of a sound re-shaping. You can almost tell that once this was a trendy and well managed place and now it's a bit shabby here and there. Sort of resting on its laurels. read next review for continuation Pros: Some food very good, nice wines, small tasty portions Cons: bored service, a bit dark more

Tapa the World........maybe on Mars 8/7/2005

After hearing about this Spanish style restaurant I had to go for a visit. Unfortunately the visit turned out to be a poor experience. The ambiance of the restaurant is ok with a euro theme to it. Unfortunately being sat right next to a extremely noisy kitchen did not help the situation much. The waiter who waited upon myself and a small group of friends was anything less than friendly. After waiting nearly forty five minutes for food (during which we ate the all too familiar bread and olive oil/vinegar combo) we were somewhat disappointed by the food. As some others have mentioned the portions were small. Though this is normally not a problem at a fine restaurant it was disappointing in that neither quality nor quantity was present. Overall Tapas is just a trendy restaurant that has little to offer other than being an alternative to chain restaurants. Pros: Different menu Cons: Poor Service, Sub-par food, Crowded more

Good late night dining. 8/4/2005

Yes, it can get very crowded and loud here but it is a fun place to go after a show or before bar hopping. The tapas plates are small but that is precisely because they ARE tapas. Tapas are the very essence of small plate dining. You order three or four plates for every two people and I promise you will not leave hungry. This is best for people who like lots of different tastes in their meal. The sangria is wonderful. The outdoor tables are great for Midtown people watching. Pros: Variety, Sangria, People watching Cons: Can get crowded, Can get loud more

Some Things Good and Others Are Lousy 4/22/2005

I enjoyed their salads. But my mom and I did not like the paella. It was spicy hot which an authentic pealla is not supposed to be, it had roasted onions another no-no for a real paella, the rice was soupy which it isn't supposed to be, the pealla's portion was paltry, we did not see enough saffron like a real paella is supposed to have it looked like it had achiote or paprika for coloring to save money, the portion of seafood was puny, the paella did not come with the fixings that it is supposed to come with such as piquillo pepper or roasted red bell pepper and their paella was a joke. I am Cuban American and know what a real pealla is when I see one and that was not one. The waiter was inattentive and I had to be after him constantly. Pros: Decent Bar Cons: Small Seats, Little Space more

A Sacramento Great! 6/30/2004

One of the best in Sacramento consistently. Their wine list is excellent, and food is always great! Sometimes the service is a bit lacking-they often get quite busy, especially late at night and on weekends. A great place to recommend to others, an easy and pleasing place to start from the menu is the chicken pasta-just a hint of spice, but so yummy! I have brought many friends and family members to this restaurant, and they all come back. A jewel of a restaurant in Midtown, they are now opening up a cocktail lounge across the way with full bar! Overall, this is a GREAT Place! more
