Worst

Last night I had one of the worst experiences at a restaurant ever. The food was okay, not great, and the ambiance was very nice. That?s where it ended. \r \r Tanjia?s advert...

A Wonderful Experience!!! 3/3/2008

I was taken to Tanjia for my birthday and what a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The atmosphere was fantastic as was the service! It was great because we didn't feel rushed as many restaurants make you feel. The evening was very relaxing, each entry was amazing! The food was out of this world! The lentel soup was so delicious I could have eaten only that, but luckily for me I went with a 5 course dinner that was so tasty and I loved the intimacy of sharing with your date. It really was an evening that I will always remember. Later in the evening a beautiful belly dancer danced. She was so good! Not only was she beautiful, but she had a great personality, flirting a little and eye contact with the audience. I will certainly visit this restaurant again! On a scale of one to ten I would rate it a 9 1/2......the one thing that I would change is the use of towels for napkins. I think it would be nice to have beautiful cloth napkins rather than towels that have seen their day! Thank you Bruce for a wonderful evening!!!! XOXO Pros: Entertainment, food, ambience Cons: Towels for napkins. Get some nice Moroccan cloth and make napkins! more

HORRIBLE! 6/14/2007

Last night I had one of the worst experiences at a restaurant ever. The food was okay, not great, and the ambiance was very nice. That?s where it ended. \r \r Tanjia?s advertises ?Belly Dancing Nightly!? The belly dancer, who was very good, only danced for a half-hour, and then was out the door for the night. How lucky we were to have gotten there right before she started! \r \r The horrible night, was served cold to us by our waitress, also co-owner. She was extremely rude to us. Further, 10-20 minutes would go by without us even being checked on. The place was not busy at all. \r \r The website and menu advertise that ?fresh mint tea? comes with every meal. I was shocked to see a $9.00 charge to our bill for two pots of tea. When I questioned this, she replied with hostility that the complimentary tea referred to was a smaller ?dessert tea.? We did not even receive any dessert tea with our meal nor were we offered any.\r \r We wanted to split the $98 bill, and place $40 of it on a credit card?nothing unusual. We told the waitress this, yet she gave us a hand-written the charge for $98. I reminded her that I asked for $40 to be put on the card. She yelled at me saying (twice), ?Well, you should have given me all of the money then!? She refused to change the credit charge until I showed her the other money that we had set aside to give her. My friend tore up the copies of the incorrect handwritten charge, and the waitress yelled at her, ?Why did you do that! We could have used white-out!? I don?t know what games this woman was trying to play, but we ended up paying all in cash, as we were very nervous what this woman could do with the credit card. I frequently eat out, and have never had been demanded my cash along with a credit card. Further, I have NEVER been treated so rudely and with such disrespect. Pros: Ambiance Cons: SERVICE! FOOD! more

Wonderful Moroccan food & atmosphere 5/31/2006

An evening to Tanjia is like being transported to another world half-way across the globe. From the low tables and cushions, Grade A service and food, to the live entertainment...it's an event you won't soon forget. Great night out for larger groups of friends. Highly recommended! more

I like it 9/14/2005

I am glad there is a Moroccan belly dancing restaurant in the East Bay. I went to the restaurant with my hubby's family on Mother's day and the service was fine(a little slow but not that bad for Mother's day). It was a fixed menu but the food was pretty good. Balista is always my favorite. The seafood is a little blend, not as tasty as the one I had in SF. Atmosphere was great. My hubby loves the music they were playing. more

Good food, bad service 7/8/2005

The food and atmosphere were fine but the service was not. One of our tables didn't get the bastilla. When we first inquired, we were told it was coming, but it didn't come for another 30 minutes. The waiter simply avoided eye contact when we tried to flag him down. Finally we were told that they made a mistake and served it to another table. When the main course was being served, one of the waiters knocked over my friend's wine glass and spilled the table. He mopped the table, said sorry and just left, didn't bother to replace her wine. Pros: Interesting ambiance, Good food, Belly Dancer Cons: slow/bad service more

Exotic! 2/24/2004

I went to Tanjia on a Tuesday night. The setting is very interesting, everyone is seating around the dance floor which prompts for interactions with other guests. The food is really good, traditional although the service can be fairly slow. (Who cares when you are spending that time with an amazing friend?) Staff is very friendly. Belly Dancing is super fun and interactive (expect to be pulled on the dance floor to do a little show yourself). The ceiling and walls have been covered to look like a tent which is really original, along with pillows etc. I would advise this place to anyone who wants a relaxed, entertaining, un-rushed dinner. Pros: Atmosphere, belly dancing, entertainment more

Outstanding. 2/4/2003

The abiance, decor, belly dancers are only a part of the experience. The special feeling of being somewhere else. I enjoyed the dinner starting with all the traditional entrees. I felt that the food was delicately prepared and the presentation lovely. I will be back again to enjoy this experience. Next time I am going to order the Royal Crown. I want to experience it all. Thank you for such a lovely time. more

Outstanding. 10/31/2002

The food was great. The atomosphere was outstanding. Great service, and an intimate feel lent itself to a very pleasurable evening. (The belly dancers were lots of fun also.) Ill be back! more

Inticing 10/30/2002

The food and ambience are delightful. I have been to several Moroccan restaurants and this one by far is the best, in my opinion. The food is delicious, I just can't decide which dish to order, so when I go, I like to go with friends and order the Royal Crown so I can taste a little of everything. Not only do you get great food and ambience from Morocco but also entertainment is part of the package. My friends and I had a wonderful time, can't wait to return. more
