Best

I like checking out the Indian restaurants with my girlfriends in the U district. Tandoor has been very good and consistent. It's a tiny place so all of us hotties fill it up nice...

They pretended to serve us chicken tikka masala... and either it was the worst version I have ever tasted or they were too lazy and decided to serve us the chicken scraps from the...

Best Indian Food Around 6/28/2007

If you like Indian Food and live in Seattle, you must try Tandoor. I have converted several fans of Cedar's (one block away) because the food is as good or better and the service is friendly (as opposed to Cedar's!). I also have never had a wait to be seated. The place doesn't look like much, but it's not dirty either. The food is all outstanding and the people that run it fall over themselves with friendliness. Try it and let me know what you think. P.S.: When deciding on a spiciness level, they go 1-5, but will do a 6 or 7 for hardcore pepper eaters...be careful, 6 is really, really hot, and 7 is uneatable! more

Delicious food, moderate prices 3/5/2006

I enjoy the Tandoor restaurant. The food is good, and the staff are friendly and polite, not either overly obtrusive or distant. I especially recommend the mutter paneer, which is a curry, vegetable, and paneer cheese dish. The sauce is flavorful and a bit creamy on the tongue, and the onions and peas complement the cubes of paneer. Their naan is pretty good, and their chai tea is pretty much unsweetened, so you can adjust the sweetness as you wish or just drink it plain (and it's pretty good that way too). Most entrees are $7-9. more

Good food in pleasant atmosphere 8/26/2005

A small restaurant at the North end of the Ave., the Tandoor offers a pleasant atmosphere in which to enjoy some tasty Indian cuisine. Glass topped tables populate the front room, a back room is available for large parties. The all-you-can-eat lunch buffet is quite tasty. However, it usually offers about the same dishes each week with a few less offerings than some other buffets. You will usually find butter chicken, tandoori chicken, vegetable korma, and an addicting mango custard. more

Lunch buffet with nice atmosphere 9/1/2004

The Tandoor is one of the numerous U-District Indian restuarants, and is pretty average. It has a good lunch buffet, and a pleasant dining area. The restaurant is usually quiet enough for a good conversation, the food is good, and the service friendly and prompt. At the same time, nothing is outstanding, and for a few dollars more you can definately get better. However, it is a good value for the cost of a meal, never-ending Chai is always nice, and being able to hear the person next to you over the restaurant noise is great. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Plain and comfortable, the simple cinderblock-and-glass room has two sources of visual charm: the elaborately worked tapestries and the large windows facing the busy community center. Tables are covered with pale linens and glass tops; the spacing is well-designed for privacy, even during busy hours. Service is consistently friendly and efficient.

    The Food
The assorted snack plate brings a little bit of everything good from the appetizer section, and is available in a vegetarian variation--vegetable pakoras are particularly crispy and good. Best are the sumptuous dishes like chicken tikka masala and coconut lamb with lushly complex sauces. Naan--baked on the outside of the tandoor--is thin, with crispy bubbles just waiting to sop up any extra sauce. Refresh with a warm, not-too-sweet chai or cooling, sweet yogurt lassi.
