couldn't ask for more 2/13/2007

Talking Leaves is by far one of the best bookstores in the country. With a small, intimate staff, and a selection stretching back over nearly 40 years, there's nowhere you can go wrong with this store. Sure, there's not a lot of space in the store, and it's jam-packed with books-but that adds to the charm of the store. If you truly love books, then this is the place to go. the staff knows what they're doing, and they seem to love their jobs. As for prices; although you can't get books for 2 dollars each, what's a few bucks for a good book? more

Not a fan 4/8/2006

I’m not a fan of this place. People who hate Borders and Barnes and Noble seem to love this place only because it is locally owned. The prices here are very high and it is so hard to find something you are looking for. This store is poorly organized and selection is very limited. more

Talking Leaves 4/2/2006

This bookstore is becoming very well regarded in the area. I like coming here because it is locally owned. Being locally owned is not the only reason but it helps the bookstore itself is great. Everyone who works here is so friendly and they are willing to help you located any books in their fine selection. more

Talking Leaves 3/27/2006

I discovered this store when I needed to purchase a book for my English 101 class while at UB. I never was aware this store existed. I only found it after the larger chains did not have this book in stock. I now shop here all the time. This store has a large local and national book section. They have everything I need while providing a better climate. more

Nice little place 3/25/2006

This is the shop that you think of when you think of a small town bookstore with unique and curious collections. The place is also used by many English professors to stock books for their classes. The shop typically has a friendly staff that is eager to make recommendations and share their opinions. more

The little store with a large selection. 12/31/2005

This great little bookstore on Main Street has a wide selection of unique and hard to find books. I stumbled upon this bookstore when I needed to find a rare literature book that my English Professor recommended. The prices are comparable to the larger bookstore chains and their service is amazing. I highly recommend checking out their selection of books on local topics. more

Poor Services 9/22/2005

First and formost, this is a horrible place. This store has outragous prices for books. Horrible management. I once went in to return a book, i had only bought a few days ago, which already had a cease on the cover, and the man said i could not return it because it was used, i was outraged. This place is very confusing as well, books seem to be everywhere. Its seems as though none of the workers care to even work there. I give this place a poor rating, i highly do not recommend this. more

small bookstore does great 8/29/2005

Talking Leaves is one of the few places I'll buy their member card for the percentage off discount, that's how often I find myself browsing their shelves. The staff is really friendly and you can do special orders. more

Talking Leaves Inc 8/20/2005

This is probably the best local bookstore. Their prices are great and you can get most of your textbooks here. The selection might not be huge as compared to B&N, but then again this shop has its patrons, me being one of them. I am a voracious reader and so I am a frequent visitor to this place. The shop has a nice collection of books and most of the times you will get what you are looking for. If your interest in, or passion for books tends to the idiosyncratic, the unusual, the marginal, the "original," and stems from an inquiring, free-spirited and independent mind be sure to check this place out. more

The Best 8/19/2005

Talking Leaves is an independent bookstore offering an excellent, eclectic collection of books and magazines. There’s a lot here for people who take reading seriously. The poetry collection is by far one of the best I have seen in the country and blows the big chains out of the water. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. There’s also a location on Elmwood that offers a similar, but smaller collection. more

Nice bookstore when you are not in the mood for a chain 8/19/2005

This place is unbecoming from the outside, but has a surprising amount of space and a good variety of books. The large selection includes college textbooks. I have always found them to be the best place to go for used textbooks, and their prices are generally at least 5 bucks cheaper. The downside is that their supply on textbooks may be limited due to the scale of the bookstore. I'm satisfied with this place. more

Cute little bookstore! 8/19/2005

Talking Leaves is a great bookstore for someone looking for a place to lose a few hours and engage themselves in books. I enjoy quieter bookstores personally, and this is definitely one of them. There are two locations, one on Main Street and another on Elmwood Avenue, and both are small hole in the wall places. Both the University at Buffalo and Buffalo State College use this bookstore periodically for textbooks for classes, and these tend to be specialty titles which I find interesting. Many local authors can also be found here, which is great for the traveller looking for a hometown style book about the city. more

Friendly Local Bookstore 8/15/2005

Surrounded by big chains of bookstores for those that want an intimate atmosphere and support of local businesses Talking Leaves may be for you. Talking Leaves sells popular book titles as well as the less well known authors. What I liked about Talking Leaves is that it creates a place where people actually enjoy reading literary works and creative writing. The prices may be a tad expensive because they don't offer that much specials and sales like chains do, but that's how the local bookstores make money from. Also they bound notes and such. more

Great Local Bookstore 8/8/2005

Talking Leaves is truly a local bookstore - locally owned and operated. They have a great selection for local university classes and some good local books. The store has some very unique choices - not just the bestsellers! The only problem is that the selection is limited - it isn't a huge store - and ordering books take a lot longer than buying online or from a B&N. A great local institution. more
